Why Ginger Is Important For Your Health?

Ayurveda is an everyday life science that cures a number of maladies based on the use of herbs, yoga, oil massages and a number of lifestyle tweaks. Ayurveda uses everyday tweaks in order to reach the root cause of the ailment and cure it. Therefore, it makes use of a lot of everyday items that can make changes in the doshas that create an imbalance. Ginger is one such ingredient that has a number of health benefits as per Ayurveda. It is a root spice or flowering plant with an orange brown hue. Read on to know more.

  1. Healing Digestive Properties: Ginger has a number of healing properties thanks to its chemical composition as they make it ideal for patients suffering from digestive problems such an irritable bowel syndrome. It also helps in improved production of the digestive juices which can help in flushing out toxins or Ama. This spice also keeps the digestive fires burning due to the heat that it emanates.
  2. Nutrition: Ginger also helps in better absorption of nutrients, vitamins and minerals from the food that we eat. This helps in better weight management as well as better digestion, which can prevent a number of diseases including cancer.
  3. Stress: Brewing a cup of green or white tea with a hint of Ginger can instantly spread a wonderful fragrance throughout the home and calm your senses by enveloping them. The fragrant properties of Ginger also have a healing effect which can lessen and prevent stress.
  4. Nausea: Small doses of Ginger are especially helpful for pregnant women who are suffering from acute and excessive morning sickness or nausea.
  5. Muscle Pain: Ginger can be used to reduce pain and soreness in one's muscles. It can be brewed as tea or taken in small slivers after a particularly intense workout. It is also known to help in relieving pain experienced by patients suffering from arthritis and other ailments related to joint and muscles. This condiment also helps in reducing the inflammation in the joints due to its proven anti-inflammatory properties.
  6. Diabetes and Heart Disease: Ginger is known to dramatically reduce the blood sugar level. It shows a reduction in the markers for oxidized lipoproteins, which also lowers the risk of high cholesterol and heart disease.
  7. Menstrual Pain: Just a gram or two of Ginger can be ingested on a daily basis to get relief from severe pain during menstrual cramps in women.

Ginger can be used to season foods like salads, curries and stir fried vegetables and also for preparing tea so that some quantity can be ingested every day. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ayurveda.

Do You Have the Obesity Gene?

Do You Have the Obesity Gene?

Obesity is a global epidemic, affecting almost all areas of human health, from heart disease to cancer, and impacting upon most of the major causes of preventable death. However, in recent years, obesity has increased dramatically in many parts of the world with India ranking third in the world’s most obese countries. Although diet and lifestyle choices play a big role, obesity might be in your genes, according to a recent study.

With over 50% of obesity being attributed to genetics, obesity can be an inherited condition. We inherit a lot more from our parents and grand-parents than our skin, hair colour and intelligence, but also predisposition to conditions such as obesity. Understanding one’s genetic profile can help individuals understand their body type and tailor their diets to foods best suited to them.

The obesity gene – FTO

The FTO gene, commonly called the obese gene is a major contributor to obesity in individuals. One version of this gene makes impulse control difficult, affecting your food choice and makes it difficult to maintain a healthy weight. Several other genes such as MC4R, INSIG, TCF7L2, LEP, IRS, have also been found to contribute to obesity. While genes do play some role in causing a predisposition to obesity, they are not entirely to blame. According to a study published by Harvard School of Public Health, ‘Active adults who carried the obesity-promoting gene had a 30 percent lower risk of obesity than inactive adults who carried the gene’. In addition to genetics, there are several factors that play a role – unhealthy lifestyles, diet inadequate in nutrients but rich in calories, higher stress levels, physical inactivity, rise in conditions such as diabetes, hormonal imbalances, in fertility etc.

Genetic tests are available nowadays to tell you what type of genes that you carry and your susceptibility to obesity. Personalised weight management programs are more effective than one size fits all approach that provides generic advice.

Simple dietary modifications can help you to overcome risks of gaining weight that might be caused due to your obesity genes:

  1. Drink 1 glass of water before every meal that you consume. This helps you to make you feel full and eat less.
  2. Slow paced eating (20-25 minutes) helps you to feel full and also aids in digestion.
  3. Protein rich breakfast such as two egg whites or 1 cup of pulses will help you to maintain your satiety.
  4. High fibre diet (at least 3-4 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruits) will help you to lose weight.
  5. Adding a variety to your diet will also help you to lose weight.

Hye, Gaining weight requires you to eat more calories than you burn. Although fried or sugary foods are calorie dense, eating them exclusively won’t provide enough nutrition to keep you energetic and healthy. Eating several meals and snacks throughout the day and including nutritious, calorie-dense food will help you gain weight healthfully. Weight gain depends primarily on your genetics, age, weight and activity level. To gain weight, you need to eat more calories than you burn. If you’re not used to eating large quantities of food at one time, you may find it difficult to fit all of your calories into three meals per day. Eating nutritious, calorie-dense foods every two to three hours will help you get your calories in without making you overly full and sluggish. If you tend to forget to eat or are always on the go, bring calorie-dense snacks such as eggs, mixed nuts, fruits and dairy. Nutritious, calorie-dense foods provide essential vitamins and minerals, which promote good health and energy. Adding ghee and cream to foods adds additional calories for very little extra physical bulk. Nuts, fruit juice, masala milk provides crucial nutrients. Meal-replacement shakes and protein powder sound like good options but also remember that unless your diet is not planned sadly they won't help.

Whey protein powders are all natural protein supplement which help in muscle recovery if taken after a weight training session. It can also be supplemented if there is no other proteins in your other meals. If you want muscles in the body which are the most metabolically active tissues of your body then you have to take proteins (egg/ fish/ chicken/ paneer/ whey protein etc) with every meal. else the you can not make those muscles. Whey protein can not cause cancer.. smoking and consuming sugar and processed food does. Take a good quality Whey protein and achieve your targets.

Dear sir, My name is noor l suffering from knee problem hw can I get treatment please can you help me.

Dear sir,
My name is noor l suffering from knee problem hw can I get treatment please can you help me.
HI Dear, Knees bear most of our body weight, unfortunately, they are one of the most ignored body parts. The knee joints are the first to bear the brunt of your increasing weight and also the first joints to start giving up on you, giving rise to ailments like knee pain and inflammation of the joint, which when left untreated, can ruin your knees forever. Here are a few exercises you can do to strengthen your knees and avoid knee problems in future. 1. Leg extensions-Leg extensions are done with the help of a leg extension machine. Begin with using light weights and slowly increase the weights. Sit on the machine with your knees bent at a ninety-degree angle and feet under the pads (of the exercise machine) pointing towards the front. Make sure your knees are in a straight line with the toes and don’t cross the toe line. If knees are over the toe, you may hurt your knees. Sit straight with your spine erect and hold the side bars. Now slowly extend your legs as much as you can. Do not jerk your knee. Slowly lower the leg and come back to the original position. To intensify the workout, you can lift the weights by extending one leg at a time and hold the position for ten seconds and then lower the weight. 2. Standing Leg extensions–The best part about standing leg extensions is you don’t need a machine for this exercise. All you need is a resistance band and a hook to anchor it. Begin with anchoring the resistance band to a wall or a strong support that won’t budge. Attach the band to your ankle and stand away from the support so that the band doesn’t sag but is stretched. Stand with both your feet at the same distance from the support. Hold on to a chair for support if needed. Take your right leg behind to a point where the band just begins to stretch and slowly extend it. Make sure your leg is steady and toes point forward. You can hold the extended position for ten seconds to increase the tension. 3. Static Squat– Squats not only strengthen your knees but also work out your quadriceps. To do a static squat, you can take the support of a wall or any other fixed object. Hold the support with your hands fully extended in front of you and elbows straight. Now, slowly lower yourself as if your are sitting on a chair. Go down only till your knees are bent at a right angle, and do not go beyond that. Your back should be straight and not rounded, and the knees shouldn’t cross the toe line.
