What are preventive measures for Parkinson's disease in old age? What are the measures to keep mental faculties sharp? What contribution a diet variation makes to keep the intellect in fine shape, particularly in old age?

What are preventive measures for Parkinson's disease in old age? What are the measures to keep mental faculties sharp...
Healthy balanced diet consisting of green leafy vegetables and fish if possible are important. Just as physical exercise improves muscles, mental exercise increases what is known as cognitive reserve and protective against dementia. So after retirement or so, continue to actively engage in activities that utilize intelligence. Similarly, do skilled physical activity depending upon what you know, eg, playing piano, writing, drawing etc.

Jisko aap vaham kah rahe hain, usse medical bhaasha mein auditory hallucination kehte hain, aur uski vajah psychosis hoti hai; sambhav hai aapki maataji ko schizophrenia - jaisi koi bimari bhi ho, ya toh dawaiyon ke side-effects se auditory hallucinations ho rahe hon. Par samajh ne wali baat ye hai ki unke liye jo aawazein sunaiy de rahin hain, woh utni hi vastavik hain jitni hamare liye hoti hain jab koi sach mein baat kar rahaa ho - unko chahe aap kitna bhi samjhayen, woh is baat ko samajh nahin paayengi. Psychiatrist isska sahi nidaan karke sahi ilaaj kar sakte hain - dawaon ka asar bhi seemit hotaa hai. Agar Parkinson Disease ko lekar koi samsya ho to mujhe bataiye, shaayad main koi sevaa kar sakun.

Hello lybrate user, sciatica is a radiating pain along the course of the nerve. Usually for the lower back to the back of thigh and then further down to the foot. This happens because of a compression on the nerve roots which leads to symptoms of tingling and numbness in your feet, and other functional deficits the nerves like sensory loss and weakness in the limbs. When this pressure of the nerves is accompanied by inflammation of nerve itself, it gives rise to the radiating pain or sciatica. This inflammation comes down with anti inflammatory drugs and rest, so the sciatica is no longer present but compression on the nerves remains so you might still be having sensory loss. But still your nerve might be recovering from the compression and you regain sensation with neurotonic drugs and time if the compression has also been resolved. But this decision making is complex and can be done by a spine surgeon and only after a thorough clinical assessment. I would suggest you get an mri done and consult a spine surgeon as soon as possible. Hope this helps.

I am suffering from migraine procedure for the last two years and I have headache. Can you suggest what should be done?

MBBS, MHS, MD - Neurology (USA), Fellowship in Epilepsy, Clinical Attachment in Movement disorders
Neurologist,
First the diagnosis of migraine needs to be confirmed, other serious causes for a headache need to be ruled out. If it is really migraine - Lifestyle changes can be very effective in migraine. Some people do need prophylactic medications to prevent migraine. Prevention e.g. 8 hrs of sleep, avoiding hunger, avoiding stress, keeping a diary and avoiding triggers is better than medications.

Hello lybrate-user, Yes, in physiotherapy there is treatment for Bells Palsy. Muscle stimulation can be given on the origin of nerve. Fascial muscles action in form of contraction can be achieved. Exercises and objects like blowing rubber baloon and sipping through straw can help. Condition improves with every sitting. I hope this will help you.
