My eyes pains a lot when I study till late night please help me in overcoming from this problem.

DOMS, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Hello, first of all get a vision test and if your eyesight is poor get prescription glasses since poor eyesight might be causing pain while studying. Also in your age weakness of eye muscles is very common, do convergence exercises every morning 20-25 times (hold a pen or pencil at arm's length, at your eye level and focus on the tip then slowly bring the pen towards your eyes persistently looking at the tip, stop when the tip becomes double or blurred, focus hard and repeat the process again). Take balanced diet with more green vegetables and fruits. Moreover resting your eyes is also very important, do not compromise on your sleep. Take care.

There has been a while since I checkup check done with my eyes and there has been a quite time my eyes is paining as I am constantly watching movies on my laptop.

BHMS
Homeopath, Delhi
It may because of over strain causing dryness of eyes. You may use tear drops available at chemist shop. Also you may use simple plain glasses to avoid direct contact to screen of the laptop.

Mother is 83, Diabetic, diagnosed with Hyper Mature Cataract condition. Seek a surgical solution to restore her eyesight asap. Please advise.

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Hypermarkets cataract are slightly notorious to treat as it is difficult for surgeons to handle it. But not for experts. Mics or Phaco with foldable iol is treatment option. In and out of Operation theatre in 15 minutes. Cheap cost. For the type of iol you must first get it checked .

I have yellow eyes for a long time. What should I do to remove this yellowness form my eyes.?

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Pune
Could be due to allergy allergy can be controlled easily using eye drops. But there are many eye drops and specific eye drops can only be prescribed after seeing the eye clinically as treatment depends on severity. Also dip a handkerchief in little cold water and keep over closed eyes. You will feel better.

I am suffering from myopia shud I go for the lens or can I go for a permanent solution DAT s operation, which is safe?

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Pune
unfortunately there are no natural medications to remove spectacles permanently. you can either try contact lenses or plan for refractive lasik laser surgery Lasik is a simple laser procedure which changes the shape of the cornea so that the light rays fall on the retina properly. It is a painless procedure. It is a day care procedure does not require any injections, does not require admission, you can simply resume your duties in 2 days. Cost varies from centre to centre. Side effects are usually limited to dryness of eyes for few months. We can do lasik anytime after age of 18 years. You need to undergo proper prelasik checkup to decide whether lasik is safe for you or not

Hello lybrate-user. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be due to allergy. You should KNOW YOUR EYE ALLERGY first. •There are various EYE ALLERGIES TRIGGERS: A person can be allergic to: Pollen from grasses, weeds, and trees. These are the most common kinds of eye allergies and are called SEASONAL ALLERGIC CONJUNCTIVITIS. •Dust, pet dander, and other indoor allergens. These eye allergies last year-round and are called CHRONIC (PERENNIAL) CONJUNCTIVITIS. •Makeup, perfume, or other chemicals can trigger eye allergies called CONTACT CONJUNCTIVITIS. •An allergy to contact lenses, called GIANT PAPILLARY CONJUNCTIVITIS, makes eyes sensitive and red. Just like any other allergic reaction, they are caused by a MISFIRING OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM, the body's natural defense mechanism. It releases HISTAMINE, a chemical that causes swelling and inflammation. Symptoms to Watch For •Red, irritated eyes •Itchiness •Tearing or runny eyes •Swollen eyelids •Soreness, burning, or pain •Sensitivity to light Usually you’ll also have other allergy symptoms, such as a stuffy, runny nose and sneezing. DON'T TAKE YOUR EYES FOR GRANTED! Protect your sight with these six tips: 1. Eat for Good Vision 2. Quit Smoking 3. Wear Sunglasses / helmets to shield your eyes from dust, sunlight, pollution 4. Wash your eyes 3-4 times a day 5. Look Away From the Computer Screen at regular intervals 6. Avoid rubbing your eyes with fingers/ cloth/ shirt/ dupatta, etc. Also, I have a few suggestions for you regarding the usage of computers, mobile phones and books. Follow the rule of" 20" This means that every 20 minutes, take a gap of 20 seconds, blink your eyes actively 20 times and focus at an object which is minimum 20 feet away. This will help in relieving your eyes from the continuous strain that is caused due to staring. Staring at the computer continuously causes us to subconsciously blink less than normal. This causes the tear film on the surface of the eye to dry up. The result of this is pain, discomfort, etc. Another suggestions regarding the usage of computers is to maintain a proper posture. The computer must be positioned at the same height as your eye level. The neck should not be inadvertently flexed or extended. Roughly, an angle of 90 degrees should be maintained between your upper body and thighs. Likewise, a similar angle (90 degrees) should be maintained between your lower legs and thighs. Also the angle between your hands and arms should be roughly 90 degrees. This is the healthy ergonomic way of sitting while using a computer. Maintenance of proper posture would help in further relieving the symptoms of eye discomfort and pain. You could consider preservative free lubricant eye drops 4 to 5 times daily. These eye drops would ensure that your eyes stay well lubricated and fresh. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you. Hope my suggestions help you.

I am 21 year old I have pain in the centre point head, upper the eyes, and problem of high sound and flash of light. Please advise some tips.

Headache is a symptom rather than a disease and may be caused by high blood pressure, insomnia, weak eyesight, sinusitis, hunger, anemia, listening to loud music, studying in improper light, emotional strain, overwork, constipation, and flatulence. 1. Apply a paste of ground clay or sandalwood powder mixed with rose water for relief in burning sensation with headache. 2. Grind 10-12 grains of black pepper and 10-12 grains of rice with water to make it a paste. Apply this paste on affected area of the head for 15-20 minutes.

I will be using gadgets regularly, due to this some times my eyes getting like blur what can I do?

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology

Take frequent breaks while you are working Every 20-25 mins take break to look away from screen Blink more frequently' Level of screen should be below the level of eyes Ac should not blow directly on your face. Also get your eyes checked for any spectacle power Here are the instructions for mobile phone use: 1. Blink, blink and blink again. Blinking often (and for more than a second) keeps your eyes moist and reduces dryness and irritation. We tend blink about a third less than we normally would when we stare at our smartphone screens, which starves our poor peepers of protective tears. Keep your eyes wet by blinking about 10 times every 20 minutes or so and you should be good to go. 2. Minimize glare. Unless you have a smartphone equipped with anti-glare Corning Gorilla Glass or use a matte screen protector film, you’re probably coping with a fair amount of annoying reflective glare. 3. Take breaks. Follow 20-20-20 rule. The concept is to take a break from looking at your screen every 20 minutes for 20 seconds while looking at something 20 feet away. Doing so relaxes your eye muscles 4. Adjust your brightness. Having your screen too bright or too dark stresses your eyes out and can cause problems maintaining focus. To eliminate either issue in about a matter of seconds, simply go into your smartphone settings and adjust your screen brightness so it’s about the same as the light level in the environment around you 5. Tweak your text size and contrast. Adjusting your smartphone text contrast and size also provides a little much-needed relief. 6. Keep a clean screen. Routinely wipe down your smartphone screen with a dry (not wet!) cleaning cloth to remove distracting dust, grime, smudges and fingerprints. 7. Hold your smartphone farther away. Try holding yours at least 16 to 18 inches away from your eyes to give your eyes a break.

I'm still seventeen. My eyes are very weak. These have -2.25 & -2.75. So, my weakness is simple to imagine. Please suggest me what should I do for better health of my small & sweet eyes. Please help me

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS

There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 16 years so your number will not increase much now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

I have red eyea for 15days. What should I do pls help eyes are paining and watering.

MBBS, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Hyderabad
Wash with plain cold water, apply cold packs to closed eyes, take a short period of rest, get adequate sleep, - these measures usually relieve most types of simple red eyes. If pain and watering is severe or unbearable, then it probably indicates a serious condition which needs an ophthalmologist consultation immediately. You also need urgent consultation if vision is also disturbed.
