Is there any blood test to determine lungs tuberculosis if yes than kindly tell me the test name . I am fed up of x ray and ct scan?

There is no test to diagnose lung tb disease from blood test. Best test for its diagnosis is sputum (bulgum) tests for tb.

My wife diagnosed TB before 6 months back. Her treatment is over doctor said she is recovered. My question is that can I smooch her? Will it be fine or there are chances to get infected through this.

MBBS, MD
Pulmonologist, Ghaziabad
Dear lybrate-user, BY book if she is diagnosed properly and has completed 6 months treatment as a per weight and recommendation then there is no chance of transmission. I hope before stopping her treatment xray and sputum test were done, this all is relevant only if she had pulmonary TB.

LUNG Cancer - What You Need to Know

MD - Radiation Oncology, MBBS, DNB (Radiotherapy)
Oncologist, Howrah
LUNG Cancer - What You Need to Know
There's no sure way to prevent lung cancer, but you can reduce your risk if you:

1. Don't smoke. If you've never smoked, don't start. Talk to your children about not smoking so that they can understand how to avoid this major risk factor for lung cancer. Begin conversations about the dangers of smoking with your children early so that they know how to react to peer pressure.

2. Stop smoking. Stop smoking now. Quitting reduces your risk of lung cancer, even if you've smoked for years. Talk to your doctor about strategies and stop-smoking aids that can help you quit. Options include nicotine replacement products, medications and support groups.

3. Avoid secondhand smoke. If you live or work with a smoker, urge him or her to quit. At the very least, ask him or her to smoke outside. Avoid areas where people smoke, such as bars and restaurants, and seek out smoke-free options.

4. Avoid carcinogens at work. Take precautions to protect yourself from exposure to toxic chemicals at work. Follow your employer's precautions. For instance, if you're given a face mask for protection, always wear it. Ask your doctor what more you can do to protect yourself at work. Your risk of lung damage from workplace carcinogens increases if you smoke.

5. Eat a diet full of fruits and vegetables. Choose a healthy diet with a variety of fruits and vegetables. Food sources of vitamins and nutrients are best. Avoid taking large doses of vitamins in pill form, as they may be harmful. For instance, researchers hoping to reduce the risk of lung cancer in heavy smokers gave them beta carotene supplements. Results showed the supplements actually increased the risk of cancer in smokers.

6. Exercise most days of the week. If you don't exercise regularly, start out slowly. Try to exercise most days of the week.

I am suffering from dry cough for the last two weeks and I have chest pain whenever I cough hard. Can you suggest what should be done?

Fellowship in Interventional Pulmonology, DNB (Respiratory Diseases)
Pulmonologist, Thane
You might be suffering for infection in your lungs or in the covering around the lungs. Get a complete blood count (cbc) and xray chest (pa) done. Visit your family physician with these reports and he can do the further treatment required. Coughing for more than 2 weeks can be a sign of tuberculosis.

Hello, you should avoid the medicines which you are taking as these are creating considerable side effects in your body. So gradually try to taper off the allopathic doses. Start homoeopathic treatment for the existing problems. Homeopathic remedies for asthma are very effective and can cure asthma permanently. The best way is to identify and avoid triggers. Second thing get a breathing based test called PFT done to have an idea. Then get treated by inhaled medication which are treatment of choice and it easily control asthma.

I have 40 years old male. My problem is that I have cough from last 3 month. I examine the blood and everything is ok. The cough is increase after 10 pm.

Firstly there's no lifelong cure for the common cold. Antibiotics are only effective against infections of throat and are of no use against cold viruses. Over-the-counter (otc) cold preparations won't cure a common cold or make it go away any sooner, and most have side effects. A saltwater gargle 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2tsp turmeric dissolved in a glass of warm water can temporarily relieve a sore or scratchy throat. To help relieve nasal congestion, try saline (pure salt water) nasal drops. If you have a throat infection, or a viral cold then I will prescribe appropriate meds based on your detailed assessment. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

I have cold and cough problem from almost 2 months. After examining chest X-ray, esr, CBP, general physician said that I have allergic bronchitis. Taking the tablets and syrup from past 10 mins. Only 60 % of cough cured. Still getting cough. Please advice me the best medicine like inhalers which I used 2 years ago which worked in just a week. I forgot the name of inhaler. Thanks in advance.

DAA, DNB
Pulmonologist, Bangalore
Hi. I can understand your concern. Allergic bronchitis requires proper diagnosis and follow up. It does not respond to syrups and tablets. So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and pft (pulmonary function test). Pft is needed for the diagnosis of bronchitis. It will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only. You may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ics). Don't worry, you will be alright. Hope I have solved your query. Wish you good health. Thanks.
