Injuries - Occupational Therapy Always Benefits You!

Disabilities can occur due to injuries, infections, or old age. Whatever the reason, the person has limited movement and suffers from pain and stiffness during this period. In addition to surgery and antibiotics, occupational therapy (OT) helps the patient immensely by providing complete rehabilitation and to help recover completely. Many who do not respond well to medications have benefited from occupational therapy and have had complete functional recovery. The occupational therapist helps patients to improve and maintain skills so they can perform their daily chores on their own.

The benefits of occupational therapy are too many and would depend on the setting in which it is used:

  1. In the elderly: With age, general movement is reduced and OT can help improve overall movement and quality of life, thereby enabling them to lead more independent lives.
  2. In mentally disabled: Occupational therapists work with people with emotional and mental limitations and teach them the necessary skills to be able to perform their functions in society. This can even enable them to take up a job and lead healthy, positive relationships.
  3. In physically disabled: OT can help them teach to perform their chores and socialize at school and home. There is a great deal of facilitating age-appropriate social interactions, thereby improving the chances of social acceptance of the affected individual.

No matter what setting Occupational Therapy is used in, the following are definitely some benefits:

  1. Improves range of motion: The person undergoing OT will see better movement of the affected parts, especially in old age where some joints are more involved than others.
  2. Increases mobility in injured or disabled patients: Disability or injury can lead to reduced mobility and OT can significantly improve this.
  3. Helps the body heal naturally: The body is not being subjected to any external chemical, and only natural movements and exercises are done, which is beneficial for the person.
  4. May reduce or eliminate muscle spasms: Pain and disability can lead to reduced mobility, which can cause muscle spasm. OT can help reduce and in some cases completely reverse the muscles spasms that may have set in. Can be supplemented with thermal modalities and treatment to reduce pain: Adding heat packs and moist heat to the regimen will produce better results.
  5. Treatment is customized for the individual: Each person is different with the cause and the effect of disability. The therapist will customize the program based on the person's needs and therefore will benefit the patient.
  6. Can boost self-esteem and promote feeling of well-being: The mere thought of being independent gives a big moral boost to the affected person, thereby improving quality of life.

Occupational therapy forms a part of the holistic regimen and can, therefore be integrated along with physical therapy to reap benefits.

Hi lybrate-user, please get blood sugar levels as diabetes may interfere with healing. You please complete course of the antibiotics and even after that it is persistent other test before starting antibiotics.

White fluid discharge. As per clinical test klebsiella pneumoniae found in April 2016. PAP SMEAR AND HPV NEGATIVE. Augmentin 625 taken No relief. Currently fluid discharge with waist pain. Kindly suggest.

Don't press breast during pregnancy. Breast discharge can be sign of underlying cancer or a disease, so get her checked by a doctor

Hello, You will be pregnant only when you miss your periods. If you are anxious for pregnancy, you can get a follicular monitoring ultrasound done to see when your egg ruptures.

इस मौसम में एक हेल्थी डाइट बनाए रखना बहुत आवश्यक है।

गर्मियों के दिनों में हमें अपने खाने में ज्यादा से ज्याद कच्चे फल और सब्जियाँ खानें चाहिए। इससे आपकी मोटापा भी कम होगा वो भी बिना भूखे रहे। खूब खाइये पर अच्छा खाइये।

गर्मियों में स्वस्थ और पौष्टिक भोजन के लिए टिप्स –

फल का सेवन – ताजे फलों का सेवन ज्यादा से ज्यादा करें।

कोशिश करें कि दिन की शुरूआत फल खाके करें और अगर हो सके तो सुबह का नाश्ते में सिर्फ ताजे फल ही खाएं।

फलों में आप तरबूज, नाशपाती, सेब, बेर और अनानास (पाइनएप्पल) ले सकते हैं।

फल का ज्यादा सेवन गर्मियों में आपको निश्चित रूप से स्वस्थ रखेगा।

पानी का ज्यादा सेवन – ज्यादा से ज्यादा पानी पीने से आपके शरीर का गर्मी कुछ हद तक शांत रहती है और आपकी त्वचा भी स्वस्थ रहती है।

गर्मी के दिनों में पानी की कमी बहुत ही जल्दी हो जाती है इसे दूर करने का एक मात्र उपाय पानी का अधिक सेवन ही है।

जितना संभव हो सके उतना पानी पीयें।

गर्मी के दिनों में हर दिन पारा चढ़ता है ऐसे में जरूरी है कि आप ताजा भोजन,ताजे फल और पानी का अधिक से अधिक सेवन करें। इससे आप गरम दिनों में भी स्वस्थ और शांत रहेंगे।

आपको स्वस्थ रखने के लिए प्रकृति के पास बहुत कुछ है यदि आप समझ गए कि क्या,  कहाँ और कितना तो ये आपके लिए बहुत ही फायदेमंद होगा।

My daughter is 23 old and having tsh level of 6.53. What should I do? her t3 is 1.32 and t4 is 9.60. She is taking thyropace tablet once daily. Her haemoglobin is 9.9. She has not got her periods since 3 1/2 months. She has history of irregular periods. There is little bleeding now and then since 10 days. Does thyropace tablet cause heat in the body. She is also taking livogen and folic acid tablets and calcium tablets.

continue your medicines. take complete treatments for DUB. IN HYPOTHYROIDISM:--- where there is deficiency of thyroxine hormone leading to sluggishness, tired feeling, weight increase, slow heart beats, intolerance to cold, swelling of legs, feet and face, difficulty in concentrating and at times in speech. Treatment for hypothyroidism is giving thyroxine tablets. And dose are according to level of thyroid for life time. Avoid bad habits . Avoid stress. Some Relax during work. Go for walk, Take plenty of water, high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. Nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: Blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. flax oil, Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. Taking a supplement may help, avoid oily foods,junk foods, go for walk. Do Tests every 3 to 6 months. And consult doctor on time.

use gumtone powder and gel to be applied on affected area. it does reduce pain. she can have paracetamol 500 mg twice a day
