Gum diseases can be treated and reversed in their initial stages very easily. By getting the accumulated tartar and plaque removed by a dentist, there is a chance that they can get better without much ado.

My teeth is getting broken into little pieces while eating some food is that o don't have calcium or is that any other problem.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Brittleness of teeth may be due to various factors: Genetic factors: Weak teeth are sometimes passed on down the generations of a family. People belonging to these families tend to suffer brittle teeth. Dietary habits: Eating too many sugary and acidic foods weakens teeth, and causes them to become brittle. Frequent snacking is also not advisable because the pH level of saliva does not come to its normal levels because of continuous intake of food. Usually, it takes around three to four hours for the effects of enzymes present in the food to reduce and restore optimum pH of saliva. Moreover, high acidic level in the mouth damages the enamel covering the teeth, thereby causing brittleness. Aerated drinks, much intake of citrus fruit juices like lemon, tobacco usage and too much alcohol are some of the other reasons that cause brittleness. Lack of balanced diets leads to vitamin and calcium deficiency in the body. As a result, teeth lose their strength and become brittle. Also, drinking water which contains high levels of fluoride is also one of the major reasons for brittleness. Involuntary habits: Some people involuntarily grind or clench their teeth when they sleep or become emotional. When grinding happens, the outer layer or enamel covering teeth is damaged. This damage paves way to brittleness. Use of excess force while brushing teeth is another common factor for this condition. Medical conditions: Certain diseases, not necessarily of dental origin, lead to brittle teeth. Some of the common diseases that result in this condition are: Periodontal disease: This is a disease of the gum, jaw bones and teeth. If ignored, this disease affects the structure of dentures and strength of the gums. When the disease reaches advanced stages, teeth become brittle Osteoporosis: Osteoporosis is not a disease of dental origin but a condition that affects the overall structure of bones in the body. People with low bone density and inadequate nutrients suffer brittle teeth through weakening of the jaw bones and teeth Nerve changes: In some cases, nerve tissues in the teeth reduce. As a result, nervous activity in the teeth reduces. This leads to brittleness of teeth Kidney diseases: Kidney diseases can lead to bone loss or reduced bone density. Osteoporosis is one of the side effects of some kinds of renal diseases. When kidneys malfunction, bones all over the body become weak. This affects the jaw bone as well. Teeth become loose and brittle. Also, when kidneys do not function optimally, absorption of calcium from food decreases. Teeth do not receive adequate amount of calcium and hence, become brittle. Drugs: Certain kinds of drugs cause brittleness in bones because of the various side effects they cause. Some drugs contain ingredients that reduce calcium absorption in the body. Some drugs also contain high level of fluoride and can lead to brittleness. However, using such drugs for short durations does not cause this problem. The condition is common in people who use these drugs chronically. Aging: Aging can also cause brittleness. Usually, the side effects of different activities, medicines and stress that the teeth undergo cumulate over age and cause brittleness as age advances. Elderly people who follow good dietary habits and avoid unhealthy habits do not suffer from brittleness.

Sir, My teeth are too much yellowish from childhood due to impure water. Now how can I remove this layer from teeth. I paste thrice a day but unable to no benefit. Provide me some suggestions.

BDS
Dentist, Pune
Probably they need professional cleaning an polishing then you can maintain it afterwards. You might be brushing teeth thrice but technique may be wrong. If the yellowish layer is formed because of fluorides. Cleaning will not help. You need to get tooth colored veneers or laminates. As the name suggests the affected teeth are prepared and tooth colored materials are placed directly or indirectly.

How can I clean my teeth. Its getting yellow please help me sir. And I have fitted a brackets in my mouth.

During orthodontic treatment that is braces tratment maintaining oral hygiene and cleaning teeth is utmost important as if ignored it can effect your gum health which can lead to more complex situation such as bleeding gums and can also lead to loosening of teeth. There are special brushes available in market which can be used during braces treatment and you can also use interdental brushes to clean in between teeth. Ideally you should brush after every meal if you are undergoing braces treatment and avoid any sticky, chewy and sweet food.

I have my yellow teeth and I am very afraid with this please tell me how to make this white and shining. I regular brush.

BDS
Dentist,
Hi, the yellow color of your teeth might be because of stains which can be superficial and deep or even it might be the natural hue of your teeth. If the they stains are superficial they can be removed by a complete scaling procedure. Deeper stains can be removed by bleaching which can also lighten the yellow shade of your teeth to a certain extent.

Tooth extraction is in no way related to your condition. Generally tooth extraction has no such side effects as you are describing. Kindly, contact your physician for accurate diagnosis.

BDS (GOLD MEDALIST)

Pain can happens because of various reasons like cavity, gum disease, dentine exposure etc. You should go for proper investigation to rule out the cause and to decide the treatment accordingly. You can take ketorol dt 2 tabs dissolved in half cup of water for temporary relief.

I am 30 years old and my teeth is not good their is so many irritation and sensevity but can I do to solve my problem.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling and / or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (Sensodyne Tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better.

Hi Mr. Lybrate-user. First we need to know was it always the same or its happened lately. Considering your age orthodontic treatment is not an absolute indication. But in any case if your guns and bine are fine it could be considered. If cosmetic is not an issue for you for. Short while. In any case visit your dentist for alternate solutions

Soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices should be consumed in a limited quantity because they are acidic in nature. Acidic food or drinks often soften the tooth material which leads to the dissolution of minerals into the tooth enamel, resulting in cavities (holes).

I ve been suffering with some kind of mouth ulcer, nd that causing me mouth irritation nd its been 40 days nd its not going frm my mouth! Is it dangerous?

BDS
Dentist, Delhi
Mouth ulcers are usually due to vitamin deficiency or bad digestion. Other causes are tonsils, trauma from teeth, dry mouth, tonsillitis, stress, change in lifestyle, allergies to certain foods and medication, smoking and tobacco chewing, consumption of spicy and hot foods. In severe mouth ulcer attacks, you may also experience fever and physical sluggishness. Taking Vitamin B12 supplements along with a suitable gel for pain is the best remedy. I suggest that you consult me privately on lybrate so that I can send you the appropriate prescription. Take care
