Avoiding Motion Sickness

Avoiding Motion Sickness

While it may be impossible to prevent all cases of motion sickness, the following tips can help you prevent or lessen the severity of motion sickness:

  1. Watch your consumption of foods, drinks, and alcohol before and during travel. Avoid excessive alcohol and foods or liquids that do not agree with you or make you feel unusually full. Heavy, spicy, or fat-rich foods may worsen motion sickness in some people.

  2. Avoiding strong food odors may also help prevent nausea.

  3. Try to choose a seat where you will experience the least motion.

  4. Do not sit facing backwards from your direction of travel.

  5. Sit in the front seat of a car.

  6. Do not read while traveling if you are prone to motion sickness.

  7. When traveling by car or boat, it can sometimes help to keep your gaze fixed on the horizon or on a fixed point.

  8. Open a vent or source of fresh air if possible.

  9. Isolate yourself from others who may be suffering from motion sickness. Hearing others talk about motion sickness or seeing others becoming ill can sometimes make you feel ill yourself.

Home Remedies For Nose Bleeding In The Summer

Home Remedies For Nose Bleeding In The Summer

Although nose bleeding is quite common during the cold months, they can occur in the summer months too. This is because, during the summer heat, your nose may tend to get excessively dry. The protective layer of mucus in the nasal cavity tends to dry up during the summer months, thus resulting in nose bleeding. The hot summers can also lead to allergies, which in result can cause it.

Although nose bleeding may be quite messy, it is nothing very serious and can be easily prevented or stopped. Here are a few home remedies that you can try if you are prone to nose bleeding during the summer season:

  1. Vinegar: Vinegar is easily available in any household and effectively stops nose bleeding. Just pour in some vinegar in a cotton ball or a piece of cloth and put it into your nose for some time.
  2. Ice: Ice also effectively helps with controlling nose bleeding. Just rub ice against your nose to reduce swelling in the blood vessels. The ice will also effectively numb the pain offering instant relief.
  3. Foods containing vitamin C: Ensure that during the summer months you take the right amount of Vitamin C into your diet. This is because Vitamin C helps in blood clotting, and will stop nose bleeding faster. Foods that are rich in vitamin C are guavas, kale, mustard, parsley, oranges, strawberries, and lemons.
  4. Baking soda: Baking soda works wonders for nose bleeding. Just mix some amount of baking soda into water, and transfer the solution into a spray bottle. Spray your nose with the solution.
  5. Steam: Inhaling steam is a great way to prevent nose bleeding. When you take steam, it moistens the nasal cavity and prevents it from becoming dry, thus avoiding any bleeding.
  6. Right posture: Another way to quickly stop a nose bleeding is to elevate your head. Keep your head in that position until the bleeding stops and try not to bend, as it can just aggravate bleeding.
  7. Whole-wheat bread: Make whole-wheat bread as part of your daily diet during summer. It is said to contain Zinc, which protects the blood vessels in the body.
  8. Drink water: Also ensure that you keep yourself hydrated at all times during the hot summer months. Drink plenty of liquids like fruit juice and milkshake, to prevent your nose from drying out.

If a person suffering from nasal obstruction with mild to moderate nasal allergies it means most probably he is suffering from dns (deviated nasal septum. Nasal obstruction is because of the deviated portion of the nasal septum (this is the bony partition of the nose cavity. Allergies are because of the hampered muco-ciliary mechanism (normally mucus is produced in the nose to moisten our nose cavity, oral cavity, and help food bolus to move downward, this mucus is basically moves on the cilia of the nasal mucosa) this mechanism gets hampered and mucus start accumulating in the nose and sinus cavity which is why thick mucus comes from nose in patients of nose obstruction and person develops sinusiits. When a surgeon removes the nasal septum deviation has not been removed properly the symptoms persists, and patient thinks that the nose bone has again regrown. It is not because of regrowth but because of half surgery done or due to the non removal of the deviation (reason can be many) nowadays nasal septal deviation can be removed endoscopically.

Hi, I have Inside nose bleeding due to cold and cough. I had eaten access pineapple a day before yesterday, from next...
There is no correlation between pineapple n nose bleed. Is it fresh blood? Does it bleed drop by drop. Or is it mixed with nasal discharge. It may be due to cold. Don't wipe your nose too hard. Use soft cotton cloth. For more details you can consult me.

Hi, my problem started with white chunks from my mouth. And I started feeling lump like thing in my throat. After consulting ent doctor, she told that white chunks are "tonsil stones" and lump like feeling might be due to GERD. After taking medicine its reduced and it started again after few days. I use to feel something in my throat all the time. I don't feel any heart burn. Can any one please suggest what is the problem and whom to consult?

Your tonsils have deep crypts or pits where food particles like rice get trapped and they rot over time and get coated with salivary calcium forming the tonsilloliths! Solution: LASER assisted Tonsillar Ablation wherein about 2-3 mm of the surface of the tonsil is vaporized by the LASER making the pits shallow so food cannot be trapped anymore! I routinely do this surgery. Do drop in to my clinic for further management.
