Thalassemia is blood related disease. Blood transfusion should be done throughout the life. Monthly once change the blood. Injecting new bottle of month it is necessary. Hematologist is the right person to treat this disease. Search good heamotologist. MD, DM in hematology is the right person. In his observation blood transfusion must be done appropriately. MD is also treat this problem. But he is not right person. Better to search a good qualified hematologist. Generally children affected this disease. It is very rare disease. But it is curable. It needs monthly transfusion of blood. Voluntary organisations also there in india. For mentally retardation occupational therapist, rehabilitation psychologist do their work properly. Better to meet right professional to come out of this problem. It needs lot of patience. Both are not cured in some months. It needs years treatment. So up to that wait patiently. Do not treat him psychological ill person. Family support and co operation is compulsory. Take proper step and do needful job. Ok all the best.

Hi doc, I am 17 years old. I had depression for 3 years but now it's in balance. I also have social anxiety I have had it all my life because of this I cannot go outside and do simple tasks. I don't like to talk to people and even I if do wanna talk with somebody I can't because of my anxiety. Also I feel like I am in a dream I don't feel like I am living and when I go outside this feeling increases. I feel like it's gonna ruin my future and my career. My family notices that I cannot socialize or go outside and they say I cannot do anything in my life like that. I feel like a burden. I feel like it's bringing my depression back. I want to treat my social anxiety medication worked only for a while. Now I don't want to take medication. Should I get therapy? I have heard it's working for other people.

Hi Lybrate user, I can understand your concern and I suggest you to continue your medications till your doctor asks you to do so. Also going for therapy will help you to manage your anxiety and socialise with people. Meanwhile, I suggest you to try going out for social gathering (it's ok if you don't interact with others in the beginning) while you are out, try being with someone you trust. Once you feel little confident, try speaking to one person you don't know. Take your trust ones help. Gradually increase the number of people you meet. Do it atleast twice a week. This will help you to build your confidence and face your anxiety. Ignore what people tell you and believe yourself. Little dedication and patience will help.

I am addicted with smoking like chain smoker. And some times I thought to leave it but I could not do this. So is there any solution so please tell me.

Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Nicotine and other chemicals can cause cancer of different types and areas. Throat cancer, mouth cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer and brain problems can result. Over and above smoking may also increase the risk factor of heart attack and brain stroke. Please quit smoking. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If you’re ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse—no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Mind power building therapy, motivation therapy etc should help you doing so. I suggest you to consult a psychologist or de addiction therapist. Take care.

For the last 1 year I am addicted to smoking, I take at least three cigarettes a day. Please suggest any solution to stop smoking.

DNB (Psychiatry), DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
Smoking cigarettes daily is a behavioural pattern which if suddenly stopped may cause some degree of discomfort. It is really an appreciable gesture to stop smoking some ways to give up smoking 1. Read about tobacco use and benefits of quitting from internet to build up the motivation to quit. 2. Check the mood state or the company or situations where you need to smoke 3. Try using nicotine chewing gums in place of cigarettes. Consult a deaddiction specialist or psychiatrist for further help.

Hi sir,
I sleep too much, think too much and put my self in bad mood. All resulting in memory loss.
You will need a evaluation for a depressive/ anxiety spectrum disorder. If this occurs once in a while it is okay, but if it is a regular feature an evaluation will be needed. I think there is no harm in getting a consultation because there is much to lose if it turns out that you do have a problem. So, please do not delay and meet an expert in your town. Take care!

I'm depress about any unknown reason why this happen tell me some things to stop this.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
I'm depress about any unknown reason why this happen tell me some things to stop this.
YOu can try the natural methods and if not helpful then you take antidepressant medicines. Natural Depression Treatments Being depressed can make you feel helpless. But Along with therapy and sometimes medication, there's a lot you can do on your own to fight back. Changing your behaviour – your physical work, lifestyle, and even your way of thinking -- are all natural depression treatments .these tips can help you feel better -- starting right now. 1. Get in a routine. If you’re depressed, you need a routine depression can strip away the structure from your life. One day melts into the next. Setting a gentle daily schedule can help you get back on track. 2. When you're depressed, you may feel like you can't accomplish anything. That makes you feel worse about yourself. To push back, set daily goals for yourself. "Start very small,” "Make your goal something that you can succeed at, like doing the dishes every other day. As you start to feel better, you can add more challenging daily goals. 3. Exercise- It temporarily boosts feel-good chemicals called endorphins. It may also have long-term benefits for people. Regular exercise seems to encourage the brain to rewire itself in positive ways. How much exercise do you need? You don’t need to run marathons to get a benefit. Just walking a few times a week can help. 4. Eat healthy. There is no magic / special; diet that corrects depression. It's a good idea to watch what you eat, though. If depression tends to make you overeat, getting in control of your eating will help you feel better. Although nothing is definitive, there’s evidence that foods with omega-3 fatty acids (such as fish) and folic acid (such as spinach) could help ease depression. 5. Get enough sleep. Depression can make it hard to get enough sleep and can make depression worse. What can you do? Start by making some changes to your lifestyle. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Try not to nap. Take all the distractions out of your bedroom -- no computer and no TV. In time, you may find your sleep improves. 6. Take on responsibilities. When you’re depressed, you may want to pull back from life and give up your responsibilities at home and at work. Staying involved and having daily responsibilities can work as a natural depression treatment. They ground you and give you a sense of accomplishment. If you're not up to full-time school or work, that’s fine. Think about part-time. If that seems like too much, consider volunteer work. 7. Challenge negative thoughts. In your fight against depression, a lot of the work is mental -- changing how you think. When you're depressed, you leap to the worst possible conclusions. You might feel like no one likes you, but is there real evidence for that? You might feel like the most worthless person on the planet, but is that really likely? It takes practice, but in time you can beat back those negative thoughts before they get out of control. 8. Check with your doctor before using supplements. "There's promising evidence for certain supplements for depression, Those include fish oil, folic acid. Always check with your doctor before starting any supplement, especially if you’re already taking medications 9. Do something new. When you’re depressed, you’re in a rut. Push yourself to do something different. Go to a museum. Pick up a used book and read it on a park bench. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Take a language class. "When we challenge ourselves to do something different, there are chemical changes in the brain, "Trying something new alters the levels of [the brain chemical] dopamine, which is associated with pleasure, enjoyment, and learning. 10. Try to have fun. If you’re depressed, make time for things you enjoy. What if nothing seems fun anymore? "That's just a symptom of depression, You have to keep trying anyway. As strange as it might sound, you have to work at having fun. Plan things you used to enjoy, even if they feel like a chore. Keep going to the movies. Keep going out with friends for dinner. When you're depressed, you can lose the knack for enjoying life, you have to relearn how to do it. In time, fun things really will feel fun again.

I am going through xtreme depression. The reason might be silly but no boyfriend included. Its about my family. I am a 22 year old girl and I still don't have the right to take my own decisions or going somewhere with my frnds. If I say of letting me do my things then they speak of getting me married. Is there any way out of it?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Thankfully this is not a pathological depression, and is episodal, based entirely on the recent fact that your family is not permissive and may I take the liberty of saying, that they are very conservative. They are probably very worried about your future and marriage, in particular. With this concern they may be too restrictive and controlling. Are you in a community that is closed minded that if you are seen with your friends they will likely think of you as a bad charactered girl! if that is the case, there may be a genuine concern about false rumors spreading about you and thus compromising your reputation. The other concern is whether you have given them any reason for concern about your choice of friends, or any lack of control when you are out, or a poor decision maker, or do they have doubts about your character, or do they not trust this world too much? if there is any truth in any of these, I can understand that they are worried for you. Any which way, here is the way out: you will need to talk to them. If they are not the listening type, then get an uncle or aunt who is respected, involved in this discussion. If that is not allowed, then get a counselor involved. You must try to work it out with whatever resources you have at your beck and call. There is no need to give up. You can also negotiate with them about meeting certain conditions they may stipulate: after all they are concerned for your safety. They may be willing if you took certain cousins or friends, whose families they know. They may agree with certain curfew hours fixed. Now if you prove that you are reliable, they will consent. The other thing is to prove that you are a reliable and disciplined person when you are on your own, this will make them able to trust you. During your discussion make sure that it does not end up in an argument or fight. The key word is to negotiate: there must be some give and take. Their intentions are good but their methods may be questionable. At least you know that they are good parents. But as with any problem communication/discussion is very essential.

Hi Gone through divorce immediately after marriage & gone through depression at that time for few months. Lost 8/9 kg...
Even though you say that you have come out of depression following divorce, and now having good job and friends, you may be still feeling that parents are responsible for the unfortunate divorce. You may be feeling that the selection of the partner in marriage by them was wrong. They did not enquire about the boy and his family enough. You are not like other friends in married life. You had a failure in marriage, due to your parents. I suggest you meet a psychiatrist with your parents and discuss this issue. Or there may be issues with them regarding the second marriage. It is almost impossible to forget the traumatic event of divorce, it's reasons and consequences. But you must try to forgive and stop blaming others or regretting about the events. Be little more careful in the second marriage and discuss with parents and psychiatrist or a psychologist about what to expect in marriage, and how to deal with the marital problems, if they arise and how to solve them. If your good with everybody else except your parents, these may be the issues I feel. Feel free to discuss with parents and a psychiatrist. Be optimistic and settle down in life and I am sure you will have a good life in future.

Watermelon juice is great for curing acidity.  - Nariyal paani is known to soothe the system if you suffer from acidity.  - Drink a glass of milk - everyday.  - Have your last meal at least two to three hours before you hit the sack.  - Keeping long intervals between meals is another cause for acidity. Dear Lybrate User, I think you are too conscious about your own self. I think you need to boost your self confidence and don't strive for perfection every time. Enjoy all the activities in life whether it is playing cricket, or eating food or sleeping. Look at all the good points life has offered you and enjoy each and every moment of life. You are very young, have a dream then make a plan to achieve that dream. Take small and firm steps towards your dream. You have to make your life healthy and interesting. Please understand that semen is produced in every healthy young adult male body, at regular intervals. It appears that you are not masturbating, hence the semen that is produced in your body, comes out automatically, at night. This is neither sexual weakness nor it is to be called "nightfall problem" This is very natural. Do not worry about it. You may talk to a Counsellor to get more awareness about your own self i.e. To know how your mind and body works and why physical and mental health are important. All the best.
