Cocaine Detoxification

Medical Detoxification is a process that systematically and safely withdraws people from addicting drugs, usually under the care of a physician. Drinking alcohol or using drugs can cause physical dependence over time and stopping them can result in withdrawal symptoms in people with this dependence. The detoxification process is designed to treat the immediate bodily effects of stopping drug use and to remove toxins left in the body as a result of the chemicals found in drugs and/or alcohol.

While at the present time, no proven pharmacologic therapy for cocaine addiction exists, several kinds of medications have been used in the detoxification of cocaine. Withdrawal from chronic cocaine use produces anxiety, depression and intense cravings for the drug. Several types of medications address these issues in different ways.

Antidepressant drugs such as desipramine or a combination of phentermine and fenfluramine have been used to reduce cocaine withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety and depression. Benzodiazepines, tranquilizers such as Diazepam, have been used to reverse anxiety induced by cocaine withdrawal. Amantadine, a drug used to treat Parkinson's Disease, may be an effective treatment for cocaine-dependent patients with severe cocaine withdrawal symptoms and may reduce cocaine craving. Bromocriptine, a drug that works on the brain's dopamine system, has been used to decrease the craving for cocaine during detoxification and to reduce mood disturbance.

Propanolol, a beta-blocker drug used to treat high blood pressure, may be useful for severe cocaine withdrawal symptoms, as it slows down the effects of adrenaline, thereby calming the body's "fight or flight" response to stressful situations. This type of drug has been used to treat general anxiety and anxiety associated with alcohol withdrawal. Propranolol's lessening of symptoms such as palpitations and sweating has helped reduce cocaine craving. Its use, however, is not risk free in patients who have taken cocaine and can be associated with decreased blood flow to the heart and other changes that predispose patients to arrhythmia and a severe increase in blood pressure that can lead to a stroke. Delayed toxic effects are possible. Any use of beta-blockers in this setting requires careful monitoring and caution

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Family is a get together of two or more entirely different personalities who are compelled to who are almost everything among themselves. In that scenario, it is quite natural, differences crop up. Each member of the family should learn to respect the other. It takes time and effort and self understanding. In most of the cases, an effective family counseling will do the trick. I suggest online family counseling. Take care.

Many methods are available for you to quit smoking. But, nothing is as effective as will power. You need to have strong will power. To reduce craving on stopping cigarete, you can use nicotine gum, lozenges, patch etc. I may provide counseling and methods to prevent relapse through telephone counseling. Let me know if you are willing. Take care.

It's highly unlikely that you have memory loss. You're probably being forgetful and it's most likely to be due to a preoccupied mind or a disturbed emotional state. You're probably going through a stressful period marked by academic stressors, difficult inter personal relationships, difficult career choices etc. Yes, you can remedy your situation with counseling.

HI lybrate-user, It is natural to feel some kind of stress when imagining your life few years down the line, But depression is a stronger emotion -its a disorder. You have to stay in present and work towards your future. You can discuss your worries so that we can see how to go about managing it. Practice Mindful Breathing The primary goal of mindful breathing is simply a calm, nonjudging awareness, allowing thoughts and feelings to come and go without getting caught up in them. Sit comfortably, with your eyes closed and your spine reasonably straight. Bring your attention to your breathing. Imagine that you have a balloon in your tummy. Every time you breathe in, the balloon inflates. Each time you breathe out, the balloon deflates. Notice the sensations in your abdomen as the balloon inflates and deflates. Your abdomen rising with the in-breath, and falling with the out-breath. Thoughts will come into your mind, and that’s okay, because that’s just what the human mind does. Simply notice those thoughts, then bring your attention back to your breathing.  Likewise, you can notice sounds, physical feelings, and emotions, and again, just bring your attention back to your breathing. You don’t have to follow those thoughts or feelings, don’t judge yourself for having them, or analyse them in any way. It’s okay for the thoughts to be there. Just notice those thoughts, and let them drift on by, bringing your attention back to your breathing. Whenever you notice that your attention has drifted off and is becoming caught up in thoughts or feelings, simply note that the attention has drifted, and then gently bring the attention back to your breathing. It's okay and natural for thoughts to enter into your awareness, and for your attention to follow them. No matter how many times this happens, just keep bringing your attention back to your breathing.

Hye. Thankyou for the query. Firstly understand that you cannot depend on a single food or nutrient for memory or concentration. Its about an overall healthy diet and lifestyle. So, firstly try to follow a healthy diet including wholesome foods, less of junk and processed foods. To increase your intake of healthy fats include nuts, seeds like walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, clarified butter in moderate amounts and soy along with fresh fruits and vegetables. Be physically active. A sedentary body leads to a sedentary mind as well.

Dear Lybrate user, Death anxiety is the morbid, abnormal, or persistent fear of one's own mortality. It is also referred to as thanatophobia (fear of death), and is distinguished from necrophobia, which is a specific fear of dead or dying persons and/or things (i.e. Others who are dead or dying, not one's own death or dying). This is an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

I last some body close last year I am depressive very you are a desire my I am very glade for you.
What you are going through is greaving. Loosing loved one is not easy to deal with emotionally. I am sorry for your loss. There are few things I would like you to try. 1. When you feel sad. Feel the feeling of sadness fully. You may close your eyes and let that sadness flow through your mind and body. If tears flow let them flow. Cry it out. Feeling what you feel fully and totally is healing. Once you feel your sadness fully. You might feel the lightness in your heart. Feel that too and say out loud. How wonderful! and engage your mind remembering some good qualities and good times you spent with the person you are missing. 2. Regular simple breath awareness meditation also help manage your loss. 3. You may also l write daily 3 to 5 things you are grateful to every morning. These things could be as simple as having a bed to sleep and food to eat. Affirm what you write and add new thing in your list for 7 to10 days. If you are not feeling any change over next 2 weeks or if you lack motivation to initiate and maintain above activities feel free revert and we could work together for few weeks to months to reverse your cycle and help you appreciate what you have. Hope this helps wishing you very best.

Exercising regularly, such as going on a walk, riding a bicycle, using an elliptical machine, or taking an exercise classgetting at least seven to eight hours of sleep every nightexploring a new skill, such as taking a cooking class, joining a book club, or taking a seminar at your local collegecalling or seeing friends or loved ones who can offer supportseeking out a support group for those who have experienced the loss of a loved one Just as some approaches can help, others may not. Turning to drugs or alcohol as a means to escape your thoughts is not productive behavior, and can actually make you feel worse over time. When you come to an important date related to your loved one, such as an anniversary or birthday, you don’t have to pretend the date isn’t significant to you. Acknowledge the day. Celebrate your loved one’s memory or spend time with loved ones that can help you feel better.

I am preparing for bank po exam from last 2 years. I had prepared very well. I was good in all subjects yet I cannot convert this things into good score and did not get job .The reason is too much anxiety during exam. I cannot control my mind even during exam. I missed crucial time due to this and mind get more diverted. Due to anxiety I smoke 2 3 cigarettes before exam but I am not sure this affect my performance or not. Due to tension masturbation becomes compulsion during preparation and these thoughts constantly distracting me during exam hours. I cannot able to implement the question during exam which I had rigorously practiced during preparation yet I am able to solve it at home in same time. Due to continuous failure my confidence becomes nil.

Dear friend you know it all, can you have courage to face any result, good or bad? it is the fear of negative and obsession of positive which is causing so much unrest. For just one time, do as I suggest. Give the exams casually not keen on passing them. And you will pass! remember cigarettes have proven to increase anxiety and there is a false feeling that it relieves it. The nicotine craving builds up anxiety which one feels is relieved by smoking. Lastly even if you masturbate do not torture and start another conflict by feeling guilty. Chill.
