Though clove can be a great way to relieve tooth-pain, it is not a replacement for proper dental care. It can help while you save up to see a dentist, but do get an appointment as soon as you can.

Tooth Sensitivity: Causes and Management

Dental problems can be very painful and take the smile off your face completely. Those who have experienced sensitivity would vouch for it. It just will not allow you to enjoy the hot coffee or a favourite sweet or a cold smoothie. The pain that shoots down the tooth after any of these would leave the person shuddering.

The tooth has 3 layers, from the outside in these are the enamel, the dentin and the pulp. The outermost enamel is mineralized and the hardest structure in the body. The next layer, dentin, has fine tubules and when the enamel is worn off exposing the dentin, sensitivity sets in. The enamel is thinner in some portions of the tooth like the neck and the roots, therefore sensitivity onset is quicker in these areas. Some of the common reasons for sensitivity are listed below.

Tooth decay: as caries progresses from enamel to dentin, sensitivity sets in, especially to hot and cold foods.
Wear and tear: excessive brushing of teeth can lead to wearing of teeth, especially near the neck areas, leading to loss of enamel and resulting in sensitivity.
Dental damage: chipped or broken tooth can lead to sensitivity.
Gingival disease: this leads to loss of gum cover over the tooth, leading to exposure of dentin and therefore sensitivity.
Bruxism: clenching of teeth, common in people with high levels of stress, can lead to enamel wearing and subsequent sensitivity.
Dental treatment: some dental procedures like scaling, crowns, root planing, and some fillings can cause transient sensitivity.
Highly acidic food items: citrus fruits, tomatoes, tea, etc. Can lead to tooth sensitivity.
Bleaching agents: most tooth whitening agents result in sensitive teeth.
Excessive use of mouthwash: the mouth rinses contain high amount of alcohol which can also lead to tooth sensitivity.

Management: as with all health conditions, the first step in management is to identify the problem. Whether it is dental decay or recent dental treatment, food habits or tooth whitening agents, the cause needs to be identified and then treatment begun accordingly.

For lost enamel, be it decay or damage, the tooth again needs to be restored to its original form to cover the dentinal tubules and reduce sensitivity.
For habits, be it food related or bruxism, in addition to treating the tooth, the habit per se needs to be addressed to prevent recurrence.
For associated dental products like whitening agents or mouth rinses, talk to a dentist to switch to a less harmful product.
De-sensitizing pastes are also available that can be used on a regular basis to reduce the problem.

Tooth sensitivity is annoying but there are ways to manage it effectively.

Tooth pain occurs when nerve endings of teeths are exposed and irritated. Sensodyne toothpaste will reduce only the sensetivity for temporary period, but if infection is present then antibiotics are needed along with painkiller. Take food rich in calcium and vitamin c.

Your problem seems vitamin deficiency related. However, my advice would be to get your checkup done by a dentist for proper treatment. Meanwhile you can take following precautions to avoid irritation until proper treatment plan is being carried out - avoid very hot foods and drinks chew slowly use a soft toothbrush and practice regular dental hygiene see your dentist if any dental hardware or teeth may be irritating your mouth decrease stress eat a balanced diet reduce or eliminate food irritants, such as hot, spicy foods take vitamin supplements, especially b vitamins drink plenty of water do not smoke or use tobacco avoid or limit alcohol consumption any further queries related to your treatment are always welcome.

Brushing twice and often using a chlorhexidine mouth wash cures halitosis if the problem still persists, go for dental check up for any restoration needed. If still, then get a consultation from a gastroenterologist. For bowel examination.

Dear lybrate-user, brush regularly with vertical up and down strokes. Cleaning every part of the mouth is very important. If you have a history of tobacco or gurkha chewing it is the most possible that you might be suffering from gingivitis.

Hello, Halitosis, also called bad breath, is a symptom in which a noticeably unpleasant odor is present on the exhaled breath. Of those who have genuine halitosis, often the odor is caused by bacteria present below the gumline and on the back of the tongue. Rest of them is accounted for by many different conditions, including disorders in the nasal cavity, sinuses, throat, lungs, esophagus, stomach or elsewhere. Very rarely, halitosis can be one of many symptoms of a serious underlying medical condition such as liver failure; but, in the vast majority of cases, the cause is minor and can often be reduced by adjustments to oral hygiene, including brushing or gently scraping the back of the tongue and improving the health of the gums by using dental floss. The intensity of bad breath may differ during the day, due to eating certain foods (such as garlic, onions, meat, fish, and cheese), smoking,[12] and alcohol consumption. Since the mouth is exposed to less oxygen and is inactive during the night, the odor is usually worse upon awakening ("morning breath"). Bad breath may be transient, often disappearing following eating, drinking, tooth brushing, flossing, or rinsing with specialized mouthwash. So, in your case, need to make a diagnosis for right medicine. Medication: Use homoeopathic SBL’s Homeodent toothpaste twice (morning & night) a day daily. Use Cinnamon Q (mother tincture) diluted with water for gargling or use Bakson’s Perio Aid mouthwash after every meal. And take orally - Merc. Sol. 30/ twice a day daily for 2 weeks. Then revert.

Gargling with 8 ounces of lukewarm water with one teaspoonful of salt dissolved in it, if one is suffering from pain or softness during the orthodontic treatment proves to be very effective. Swishing this mixture around the mouth and then spitting it out will dull the pain and provide relief to the patient.

To begin with, do not pick your bump or flat white spots on your lips. Always resist the urge to do so as this will increase the chances of getting an infection. Rinse your lip with warm salty water (about a half a teaspoon of salt added to a cup of warm water). Swish the mixture in your mouth before spitting it out. Book an appointment with your doctor if the spots bleed, cause neck and jaw swelling, make your tongue numb, you have trouble swallowing, you have fever, sore throat or you feel like something is caught on your throat.

Pehle daat aur masudo ki safai karae. Fir kisi mouthwash ko use kare. Sirf gel ya kisi medication se koi faayda nahi hoga. Pehle gums ka infection nikalna padega.
