Hi lybrate-user you should get orthodontic treatment done from an orthodontist. Don't get the grinding of your teeth done as many people do that as it is not good for health of teeth.

Gingivitis can be treated but requires maintenance to prevent worsening of the situation. Such cases will be assessed by clinical and radiographic examination. Depending on the bone level, further management is done. Please be aware that gingivitis does not settle in one sitting. You need to see the dentist every six months and undergo procedures as and when required.

Hi, tooth ache can be due to some reasons like abscess, caries or cavity in tooth, gum disease and many more reasons. Go for physical examination first to get diagnosed correctly. No, pain killers are not permanent solution for tooth ache as it causes other damages if you continue them for long duration.

I have dry mouth at night much more, today I could not eat food, what can I do for it.

BDS, Non-Resident J.R. in Dept. of Orthodontics, Certified oral implantologist, Advanced Aesthetics, Digital Smile Designer

I have dry mouth at night much more, today I could not eat food, what can I do for it.
CAUSES OF DRY MOUTH What Causes Dry Mouth? Causes of dry mouth include •Side effect of certain medications. Dry mouth is a common side effect of many prescription and nonprescription drugs, including drugs used to treat depression, anxiety, pain, allergies, and colds (antihistamines and decongestants), obesity, acne, epilepsy, hypertension (diuretics), diarrhea, nausea, psychotic disorders, urinary incontinence, asthma (certain bronchodilators), and Parkinson's disease. Dry mouth can also be a side effect of muscle relaxants and sedatives. •Side effect of certain diseases and infections. Dry mouth can be a side effect of medical conditions, including Sjögren's syndrome, HIV/AIDS, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, anemia, cystic fibrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, hypertension, Parkinson's disease, stroke, and mumps. •Side effect of certain medical treatments. Damage to the salivary glands, the glands that make saliva, can reduce the amount of saliva produced. For example, the damage could stem from radiation to the head and neck, and chemotherapy treatments, for cancer. •Nerve damage. Dry mouth can be a result of nerve damage to the head and neck area from an injury or surgery. •Dehydration. Conditions that lead to dehydration, such as fever, excessive sweating, vomiting, diarrhea, blood loss, and burns can cause dry mouth. •Surgical removal of the salivary glands. •Lifestyle. Smoking or chewing tobacco can affect how much saliva you make and aggravate dry mouth. Breathing with your mouth open a lot can also contribute to the problem. What Can I Do to Manage Dry Mouth? To minimize dry mouth: 1. Drink water frequently to keep your mouth moist and loosen mucus. Carry water with you to sip throughout the day and keep water by your bed at night. 2. Suck on sugar-free hard candies, ice chips, or sugar-free popsicles. Chew sugarless gum (gums containing xylitol). These sucking and chewing actions help stimulate saliva flow. 3. Moisten foods with broths, soups, sauces, gravy, creams, and butter or margarine. Eat soft, moist foods that are cool or at room temperature. 4. Avoid commercial mouth rinses or mouthwashes that contain alcohol or peroxide. These ingredients will further dry out your mouth. 5. Avoid salty foods, dry foods (for example, crackers, toast, cookies, dry breads, dry meats/poultry/fish, dried fruit, bananas) and foods and beverages with high sugar content. 6. Avoid drinks containing alcohol or caffeine (for example, coffees, teas, some colas, chocolate-containing drinks). Alcohol increases water loss by triggering frequent urination. Alcohol, as well as caffeine, also dries out the mouth. Also avoid acidic beverages, such as any fruit juices (orange, apple, grape, grapefruit) and tomato juice. Other tips to reduce irritation associated with dry mouth include: 1. Minimize your intake of spicy or salty foods as these may cause pain in a dry mouth. 2. Quit smoking. 3. Use a moisturizer on your lips to minimize irritation. 4. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush on your teeth and gums; rinse your mouth before and after meals with plain water or a mild mouth rinse (made with 8 ounces of water, ½ teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon baking soda). Brush with a fluoride-containing toothpaste. 5. Use a humidifier to increase the humidity in your home, especially at night.

I have bumps inside my mouth. Its very painful for me. What can I do to treat them ?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Hello Ms. Lybrate-user hope you doing well. Yellowish discoloration of the tooth can be extrinsic or intrinsic. Intrinsic means that since your childhood you have the same color of the teeth that is inside the tooth. Extrinsic discoloration is because of factors like excessive tea, coffee, smoking, some medications. Extrinsic stains go away by getting professional cleaning done and using some whitening toothpaste. In intrinsic stains you have options like bleaching, veneers, laminates.

Dear doctor, I have a cough problem since last 10 years but its not constantly. And I am also facing mouth ulcer its ...
There are so many causes of mouth ulcers like- -stress or tissue injury is thought to be the cause of simple mouth ulcers. -certain foods, including citrus or acidic fruits and vegetables (such as lemons, oranges, pineapples, apples, figs, tomatoes and strawberries), can trigger a mouth ulcer. -sometimes a sharp tooth surface also trigger mouth ulcers. -some cases of complex mouth ulcers are caused by an underlying health condition, such as an impaired immune system; nutritional problems, such as vitamin b-12, zinc, folic acid, or iron deficiency and gastrointestinal tract disease, such as coeliac disease and crohn's disease. -when you first quit smoking, you may develop more mouth ulcers than normal, but this is temporary. Usually ulcer heals by itself only within 1 week. You can take becosule capsule' once in a day for 1 week for faster recovery. Temporarily you can apply mucopain gel over ulcer for relief.

Hello doctor, I consulted a doctor a month ago and he prescribed me to take omega 3 and vitamin capsules. I followed the same. Today I met a friend who is a Amway representative and he showed me a experiment in which he put the cut tablet on thermocol and it started to melt. So is it safe to continue or is that common experiment? Thank you doctor.

It is safe to continue if you can see benefits. Do not get misguided by one odd experiment. All drugs go through stringent quality checks before floating in the markets and getting prescribed.
