My 13 years old Pomeranian dog is having plaque on her teeth for a while. She recently also had her nose swollen for a couple of days because of the same reason. We provided her some medicine by a local vet but how can we treat her plaque ? it's spreading an she has also started to loose her teeth ! Please do reply ! Thank you !

MVSC
Veterinarian, Hyderabad
Provide her dog chews (hard bony like sticks) available in the pets shop to get rid of plaque. If its started loosing her tooth it is because of her age. Dont get panic.Check the nose for swelling , did she get any injury? plaque on teeth may not be reason for nose sweling

Dear sir I think you are too much confused and too much worried about your pet. Just feed him with best foods available and with vitamins and mineral supplement and Sunday homemade non-veg with rice could improve him well rather than making too much complication.

Veterinarian, Bhiwadi
Dear lybrate-user bleeding from which body part please clarify. If it is from its genital area and its mild, it could be due to her heat period. Along with bleeding there may be slight swelling of her visible genital parts. Please share photograph and name o bleeding part to give you precise advise.

Good morning all, I have pug of 1 year, now days he is not eating much food. His epetite seems to be reduced, just need to confirm is it normal or should I take any steps. Kindly help. Thank you, Achal

MVSc, BVSc
Veterinarian,
Hi. Reduced appetite may be considered normal as long as his activities, water intake, urination, stools remain normal. Appetite does reduce during summers. Check if he prefers to eat during cooler hours of the day. Check if he's overdue for deworming. Hope this is helpful.

What Makes Chocolate Poisonous to Dogs?

Chocolate is made from cocoa, and cocoa beans contain caffeine and a related chemical compound called theobromine, which is the real danger.

The problem is that dogs metabolize theobromine much more slowly than humans, reported by Denver veterinarian Kevin Fitzgerald, PhD, tells WebMD.

“The buzz we get from eating chocolate may last 20 to 40 minutes, but for dogs it lasts many hours,” he says. “After 17 hours, half of the theobromine a dog has ingested is still in the system.”

Theobromine is also toxic to cats, but there are very few reported cases of theobromine poisoning in felines because they rarely eat chocolate.

Dogs, on the other hand, will eat just about anything.

Even small amounts of chocolate can cause vomiting and diarrhea in dogs. Truly toxic amounts can induce hyperactivity, tremors, high blood pressure, a rapid heart rate, seizures, respiratory failure, and cardiac arrest.

But till today she is not taking food she use to drink only water.(she was not taking her food for th past 4 days). Please suggest me any medicine for her.

MVSc, BVSc
Veterinarian,
Wise to check if she has any infection and fever. Coughing could be initial sign which could have subsided, but infection could have prevailed. Share more info about her meds. Would recommend a blood test. Take care.

Your cow is suffering from acidosis due to eating excess food grains. Give plenty of water and feed only greens if it takes for 2-3 days. Give RUMENTAS 2 boli 2 times daily for 3 days and also give BLONIL Liquid orally 50 ml 2 times daily for 2 days.

My dog is suffering from fever

MVSC
Veterinarian,
Try to calm down the dog. Wipe the dog with sponge dipped in lukewarm water at ears, nose, neck, paws etc. Give only liquid diet. Try to put under the fan. If temperature do not reduce even after 3 days try paracetamol in low dose, take to vet for further investigation
