Ayurvedic treatment for premature greying of hair and hairloss- boil a handful of fresh curry leaves in 6-8 tablespoons of coconut oil until the leaves become black. Strain the oil. Apply this oil to your hair daily at night and massage your scalp only with fingers gently. Massage for about 15-20 minutes. Leave it overnight and wash off your hair the next morning. Use this oil for at least 3 months to get results. Apply onion juice onto your scalp, massage, and leave it on for about 30 minutes to an hour. Repeat the process daily for a few weeks. Shampoo your hair. Apply fresh juice extracted from amaranth leaves on your hair and scalp. Rinse it out. Simply eat a teaspoon of black sesame seeds daily for at least three months. Boil the curry leaves in water and drink the hot beverage. Grind the curry leaves and squeeze out their juice. Mix curry leaves juice and buttermilk. Boil the mixture on low flame for 5 minutes. Let it cool to become lukewarm. Apply this lukewarm buttermilk-curry leaves juice mixture on your scalp. Leave for half an hour. Wash hair with lukewarm water. Note- avoid constipation. Do not comb hairs at all when they are wet.

General Physician,
Do not use shampoo and apply coconut oil and only dry excess oil if any without soap or shampoo In order to have healthy volume of hair on your head, the rate of hair loss and replacement should be in tandem. With age, your hair growth cycle shows signs of slowing down and factors like age, disease, and hormonal changes among others affect the pace at which an individual hair follicle moves through the 3 phases of the hair cycle. A disruption in your hair cycle can give rise to loss of hair that’s rapid and unexpected. Hair loss or alopecia can affect both men and women. So what can cause your hair to fall at an alarming rate? The reasons behind hair loss could be many, but here are 6 major ones: 1. Lack of protein in your diet When you exclude protein from your diet, your body starts to conserve the protein that it has by altering the growth cycle of your hair. In such cases, your hair enters into the resting stage, resulting in zero hair growth. In India, 9 out of 10 people are said to suffer from low amounts of protein in their diet, with 91% vegetarians reporting protein deficiency. 2. Iron deficiency Iron plays a very important role in the transportation of oxygen to the different organs of the body. Lack of iron in your diet (which is the principle reason behind anaemia) can give rise to several health problems including hair loss. Your body attempts to direct oxygen to important organs so as to support their functioning. As a result, your scalp witnesses a low supply of oxygen, which causes hair loss. 3. Vitamin D-3 deficiency Deficiency of vitamin D-3 gives rise to a type of hair loss called Telogen Effluvium (TE). This is a temporary hair thinning phenomenon that takes place when the all the hair on your scalp enter the resting phase at the same time, subsequently causing you to shed a large amount of hair later on. 4. Smoking Smoking can also affect the health of your hair, especially the rate at which it falls and the number of strands lost in a day. A research carried out by the Harvard School of Public Health has revealed that smoking can cause a rise in a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). An increase in DHT level prevents new hair cells from growing and causes hair follicles to reduce in size with each hair cycle. As a result, the area on your scalp that gets affected by DHT experiences a lack of hair growth. 5. Use of testosterone supplements in gym Intake of testosterone in the form of supplements and injections to build muscle mass can trigger hair loss in men. This takes place when the testosterone in these supplements gets changed into DHT, thereby affecting your hair loss rate and amount. 6. Past illnesses (dengue, TB and typhoid) Falling of hair can also be brought on by illnesses such as typhoid, TB and dengue as the hair growth cycle comes to a stop. Hormonal or metabolic stress that is experienced during the course of such diseases may cause hairfall. What are the treatments available to cure hair loss? 1. Hair transplant Hair transplant is a minimally invasive surgical technique that transfers hair follicles taken from other parts of your body to the balding area. Known by the name of Follicular Unit Transplantation, this hair loss treatment can help to bring back the natural appearance of a fuller head of hair. Hair follicles are harvested using two procedures- follicular unit extraction and strip harvesting. Procedure can vary from 4-8 hours or more depending on the case. 2. Platelet- Rich Plasma (PRP) Platelet- Rich Plasma (PRP) is another treatment alternative that can reverse hair loss. It’s a simple non-surgical procedure that lasts about 60-90 minutes. In this form of hair treatment, the patient’s own blood cells, more specifically blood platelets are injected into the scalp. Usually 8 sittings are required with each sitting being 2 weeks apart for better results. 3. Low Level Laser (Light) Therapy (LLLT) This form of hair therapy utilises light energy of a specific wavelength and threshold to stimulate cellular activity, thereby promoting hair growth. Various controlled clinical tests have revealed its effectiveness in encouraging hair growth in both the genders.

Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i. E. Cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Prevention: -Take healthy food only and avoid unhealthy ones (although sebaceous glands are not excretory glands then as well!) as what you eat is reflected on your face! -Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension as it encourages secretion of stress hormone in the body as thus affects skin or any other tissue of the body. -Drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water in a day. -Take 6-8hrs. Of sound sleep everyday. -Don't use others towels, handkerchief on your face as well as never share yours. -Never ever rub your face as it damages the skin (even towel should be dab on skin softly) and break outs of acne get worsened! -Maintain hygiene, wash your face 2-3times in a day, changes the pillow covers, bed sheet daily, use cotton bed sheet only (try to sleep on your back). Home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity. Medication: You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day (and for local application as well) and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 30 days.

Leave overnight-------------------- venome shampoo (biovalley) -----apply twice weekly (if you do not get this shampoo im mkt then 2nd option is anti-dandruff shampoo (wilmar schwabe india)------------------------ getting rid of itching scalp-------- 1. Use less shampoo. If you use too much shampoo, you increase the chances that residue will be left behind. Failure to thoroughly rinse out shampoo of the hair causes scalp irritation and flakiness. 2. Exfoliate your scalp. Getting rid of dry, dead skin cells is just as good for your dry scalp as it is for your face. Mix a tablespoon or two of sugar with your shampoo and gently work it into your scalp with the pads of your fingers. Avoid using your fingernails when lathering up, which can cause nicks or cuts. 3. Avoid extremely hot water. Hot water can dry out the skin and aggravate a dry, flaky scalp. The same is true for heat styling products such as a blow-dryer. Excessive heat can cause the scalp to become irritated and dry. 4. Give yourself a scalp massage. A scalp massage causes blood to flow to the scalp, and helps clear any blocked pores that may be interfering with sebum production. Sebum is the oil produced in the sebaceous glands of the scalp. Massaging the scalp also loosens excess dead skin and dandruff, making it easier to wash away. Give yourself a scalp massage before or during your shampoo, or even when you're relaxing in front of the tv. Putting olive oil on your fingertips before the massage gives your scalp added benefits. After the massage, continue with an olive oil treatment.------------------------ do nd do nots ------------------ 1. Drink 6-8 glasss extra water daily 2. Drink 2 glass milk daily 3. Dear doctor, I'm 26, female. I have a number of grey hair and it is increasing day by day. How can I tackle this problem?

MD, MBBS
General Physician, Noida
You may colour them with dyes. You may prevent further graying of hair by taking high protein diet rich in vitamins. The premature graying problem is largely genetic. Hair follicles contain pigment cells that produce melanin, which gives your tresses their color. When your body stops generating melanin, hair presents itself as gray, white, or silver. Many herbal and homeopathic preparations are sold online and at chemist shops for premature graying of hair but all they are futile just taking money for selling hopes. Many home remedies are mentioned at various websites, but the results are poor. These remedies are: Curry Leaves and Coconut Oil Massage Amla and Fenugreek Pack Lemon Juice and Almond Oil Massage Black Tea Massage Rosemary and Sage Treatment Ribbed Gourd Therapy Buttermilk Pack Shikakai Cleanse Amaranth Juice Pack Curry Leaves and Coconut Oil Massage Each one of us want to stay young forever, but no one can stop the flow of time. The aging of skin and greying of hair are the two most evident signs of aging. Hair greying is a natural process, and appearance of grey hair from mid-40s is normal. But it turns into a nightmare, especially for women when they find a strand of grey or white hair peeping from amidst the black ones as early as in their 20s or 30s. Hair turns grey when the body stops producing the pigment melanin that is responsible for the dark color of hair. In most cases, this occurs due to lack of nourishment and a well-balanced diet. It is best to treat problems of skin and hair such as dull and damaged hair, premature greying and dandruff with home remedies in order to minimize side effects. The causes of hair greying are several. Here we have listed out a few common causes. Heredity is a major reason for hair greying Excessive use of tobacco and smoking Chronic emotional stress or psychological worries Lack of nutrients such as vitamins, iron, copper and iodine in the diet Medical conditions such as anemia, hypothyroidism, tuberous sclerosis or neurofibromatosis The main reason for hair greying is loss of pigmentation melanin from the hair follicles, and it is best to treat this problem with effective home remedies that have absolutely no side effects. Curry Leaves and Coconut Oil Massage One of the most common herbs used to temper Indian curries, curry leaves have amazing benefits for hair as well. It is the most effective natural grey hair solution. Vitamin B present in curry leaves restores the functions of the natural pigment in the hair follicles that provides a shining black color to the hair strands and prevents further greying of hair. It also supplies essential nutrients to the hair and heals damaged hair roots. Being a rich source of beta-carotene, it stimulates hair growth and prevents hair fall. The benefits of coconut oil for hair and skin are numerous as well. It is the best natural conditioner for dry, rough hair that smoothen the open hair cuticles and makes hair lustrous, bouncy and manageable. Curry Leaves and Coconut Oil Massage Ingredients: Coconut Oil – 1 Cup Curry Leaves – Handful Add the curry leaves to the oil and boil it for 6 to 8 minutes, or till the leaves turn black. Remove from flame and let it cool. Strain the oil in a container and massage your scalp and hair with this oil 3 to 4 times per week before going to bed. Wash off with a mild herbal shampoo in the morning. Amla and Fenugreek Pack Amla or Indian gooseberry is one of the most effective home remedies for grey hair and has been used since ancient times in Ayurveda for treating all kinds of hair problems. Being a rich source of antioxidant vitamin C, it has amazing anti-aging properties and helps in preventing premature greying of hair. It also promotes hair growth and improves hair health. Fenugreek or methi is a common kitchen spice, but it is loaded with nutrients such as vitamin C, Iron, potassium, lysine, L-tryptophan and alkaloids that have amazing benefits for hair and skin. It prevents premature greying, treats follicular problems to prevent hair fall, promotes hair growth and prevents scalp dryness as well as dandruff. In addition, it also acts as an effective natural remedy for acne and pimples. Amla and Fenugreek Pack Ingredients: Dried Amla – 5 to 6 pieces Fenugreek – 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil – ½ Cup Turn the fenugreek seeds to a smooth powder and keep aside. Heat the oil and add the amla pieces to it, let it boil for 5 to 6 minutes, add the fenugreek powder to the oil, let it boil for another minute and remove from flame. Let it cool and strain the oil, apply on scalp and hair before going to bed. Wash off with a mild herbal shampoo in the morning. Lemon Juice and Almond Oil Massage Being a rich source of antioxidant vitamin E, almond oil acts a natural remedy for treating wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. Almond oil is extremely beneficial for hair as well. Massaging scalp and hair with almond oil prevents premature greying of hair. It nourishes the roots of the hair, improves elasticity and prevents split ends. It treats dandruff and adds a healthy glow to hair. Lemon is a rich source of vitamins B, C and phosphorus that promotes hair growth by supplying nourishment to the hair roots. It adds volume and shine to the hair strands. Lemon Juice and Almond Oil Massage Ingredients: Almond Oil – 2 Tablespoon Lemon Juice – 3 Tablespoon Mix almond oil and lemon juice in a glass bowl and apply thoroughly on scalp and hair, Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash off with a mild shampoo. Black Tea Massage The benefits of black tea for cancer prevention and improving cardiovascular health are well known. But it also has great benefits for skin and hair. Loaded with antioxidants and caffeine, black tea stimulates hair growth and improves strength and elasticity of the hair strands to prevent brittleness and breakage of hair. It adds a natural dark hue to hair and adds a natural shine to it. Black Tea Massage Ingredients: Black Tea Powder – 2 tablespoons Salt – 1 Teaspoon Boil 2 tablespoons of black tea and 1 teaspoon of salt in water for 2 minutes and remove from flame. Let it cool and strain the liquid. Wash your hair with this liquid and let it dry, don’t rinse with shampoo. Repeat it 2 to 3 times per week for best results.

Hello doctor. I am 17 years old. I'm suffering from hair loss. What should I do for that?

Certified Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian (RD), PGDD, Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (B.U.M.S), General Physician
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Is your hair loss accompanied with greying of hair and have they become very thin? your hair needs a very high protein well-rounded diet. Hair and nails are the last organs to get nutrition in the body, hence only if all the organs get sufficient nutrition and proteins, only then the remaining nutrition would be used for hairs. A strand of hair is composed of mostly protein, which means your hair needs protein to grow. Hence a therapeutic diet prescribed by a registered dietitian can help a lot in hair growth. Besides diet excessive stress, current/past dandruff and some medication are conclusively known to retard hair growth and promote hair loss. - cut down on the use of hair spray, hair gels, and styling creams that contain harsh chemical ingredients, which can dry out the scalp and cause the formation of flakes. Also harsh treatments such as perms, colours, relaxers etc take a toll on the health of your hair. - avoid changing your shampoo and conditioner constantly. Stick to one good mild cleansing shampoo for six months before changing. - excessive exposure to the sun, pollution, rain water and dust without proper protection makes the hair dry, brittle and limp. Use a live in conditioner during the rains to protect it from the humidity and wash and oil it regularly to maintain a healthy scalp. I may also prescribe medications like biotin or minox. That are proven to help in hair growth and repair.

Reasons For Hairfall

Reasons For Hairfall

If you notice your hair falling out in the shower, don’t panic. Most people shed about 50-100 hairs a day. This usually won’t cause noticeable hair loss, because new hair is growing in at the same time. But if you’ve started to notice thinning areas or bald spots, it’s because the cycle of growth and shedding has been disrupted.

A variety of conditions can cause hair loss, including:
- Family history – The most common cause of hair loss is a hereditary condition that usually occurs gradually and in predictable patterns, such as a receding hairline and bald spots in men, and thinning hair in women.

- Hormonal changes – Hormonal changes and imbalances can cause temporary hair loss. This could be due to pregnancy, childbirth or the onset of menopause. Hormone levels are also affected by the thyroid gland, and thyroid problems may cause hair loss.

- Medical conditions – Scalp infections and diseases that cause scarring can result in hair loss at the scarred areas.

- Medications – Hair loss can be caused by birth control, along with drugs that are used to treat cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems and high blood pressure.

Hair loss can be frustrating. Getting to the root of the problem is the first step to finding a solution.

Massage your scalp with a mix of oils like olive, coconut, sesame, castor oil at night. 4. Apply raw amla juice on hair thrice a week. 5. Rub your scalp with the juice of white onion. 6. Use a paste of bhringraj on hair. 7. You can use some good hair packs like - fenugreek and yogurt, egg and green tea. 8. You can rinse your hair with organic apple cider vinegar after washing your hair to maintain ph balance of your hair. 9. Hair health depends on the amount of protein in your diet. Foods like chicken, eggs, fish, nuts, dry fruits gives you the required nutrients to keep your skin and hair healthy. So consume plenty of them.
