Medication for hypertension can lead to feet and leg swelling. The best way to control the swelling is to wear compression stockings-grade 2 from toes to knees, in the morning when the swelling in minimal, wear it all day and remove it while going to sleep.

Hi along with medicines, wear a splint 24 hours a day for 4 to 6 weeks to hold the affected area firm and still. Apply ice for pain. Stop doing anything that worsens the condition. Best wishes. You can ice the area to reduce inflammation.

During that pain, just take 1 dose of homoeopathic lactic acid 200 and watch for half hour. If pain does not subside in half hour, tak 2nd dose of it. It will be definitely relieved with 45-50 mins. And use hard quill to sleep. Soft quill will damage your spine curvature which will lead to more pain.

Hi Hope this message finds you in good health. I have gone through your complaints and understand your concern. I generally see many cases like this at my clinic. I give them rest, analgesics,anti-inflammatory tablets and ice pack till the symptoms reduce to some extent. Then I get an xray and if necessary an mri done to find out the exact reason. In your case, there are 3 possibilities- POSSIBILITY 1. SOFT TISSUE INFLAMMATION- there may be no bony involvement, only the soft tissues around the region might be inflammed that may be causing the pain POSSIBILITY 2. NEUROPATHY- there may be a partial or complete inflammation of the nerves in that region that may be the root cause of such kind of pain. POSSIBILITY 3. DISC PROLAPSE-there may be a compressed a nerve in the spine somewhere that might be causing radiating pain in those regions. Possibility of a disc prolapse should be kept in mind. I suggest you get an Xray as well as an MRI done to find out the exact cause. Physiotherapy, analgesics,anti-inflammatory drugs should help till then. Do get back to me after your reports are ready. But I assure one thing, even if it is either of the above 3 possibilities, all have a good prognosis and you should eventually get back to normal in coming few days. Nothing to worry about. Thanks, Take care, God bless.

What Are The Causes Behind Muscle Strain?

MBBS, PG-Diploma In Clinical Pathology
General Physician, Sri Ganganagar
What Are The Causes Behind Muscle Strain?

Muscle strain or muscle pull is a condition, which is characterized by damage to the muscles or its adjoining tendons. Undue pressure can be exerted on the muscle when you are carrying out routine activities such as sudden lifting of heavy things or playing contact sports. The damage to the muscle is usually in the form of partial or complete tearing of the tendons and fibres attached to the muscles. The small blood vessels in the muscles can also be damaged by the tearing of the muscles, leading to local bleeding and bruising.

The symptoms of muscle pain are:
1. You will experience pain even while resting
2. There will be bruising, swelling and redness around the affected area
3. You will experience weakness of the muscles and tendons
4. The movement and mobility of the muscle will be impaired
5. You will experience pain when you use the affected muscles

The causes of a muscle strain are:
1. Playing contact sports can lead to injuries
2. Lifting heavy things
3. Exercising without a proper warm up routine
4. Lifting extremely heavy weights during exercise without proper acclimatization
5. Sleeping on one side only for a long period of time
6. Not stretching properly
7. Falling from a height

The treatments for muscle strains are:
1. Pain medications: You can opt for pain relieving medications such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications to help combat the associated pain of a muscle strain.
2. Rice: Rice stands for rest, ice, compression and elevation. This treatment is usually the first step after suffering a strain, before opting for medications. This treatment prevents further aggravation of the problem.
3. Compress: You can alternate between hot and cold compress to reduce the swelling and pain.
4. Stretches: Once the affected area has healed, it is important for you stretch the muscles to improve their mobility and strength.

My wife is of 25 years old, we had a child of 5 years old. From the last two years my wife is suffering from rheumatoid arthritis and hypothyroidism. We have been using prednisolone and sulphasalazine tablets from a reputed rheumatologist. We have been using from the last two years the same tablets and going to the doctor for every two months as prescribed. Necessary blood tests are also being conducted on almost every visit. Pains are coming back even if she forgets to take tablets for one day. We are also looking for a second pregnancy. Many people are saying that prednisolone should not be used for long time. Please help in troubleshooting the above problem.
