Dear lybrate-user, unfortunately everything can not be solved with med (s). I understand your concern because, this kind of extra weight is breeding ground for many diseases (blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, certain kind of cancers, arthritis etc), which can affect the quality of your life ahead. This is a lifestyle related issue and it can be surely treated with intensive lifestyle modification program. Most people who are fat are made to feel that it is because you lack will power, you are lethargic and a weak person. But that is definitely not true. It is your your hormones which have made you fat and keeping you fat. Unless we make correct diagnosis and and create a diet and lifestyle plan to correct that hormonal abnormalities you will not be able to lose weight for long term. Most diet fails because they are low calorie and low fat. Instead of correcting metabolism, they make you feel low energy or makes you feel excessively hungry. If you are doing regular exercise, it will increase your fitness but it may not reduce weight much. Calorie counting is useless. If you want to count, count nutritional value of food in terms of protein, fiber, good fat etc. I am sure you did not gain this much weight suddenly but over a period of time. To achieve weightloss - think long term. Weight loss achieved over short term, always comes back. Try this general approach (see below) for 4 weeks. If this works (moves your weight in right direction) then continue. 1. Do not eat anything sugary or sweet. Zero sweetness in diet. 2. Eat plenty of salad in lunch and dinner along with other foods. 3. Do not drink any liquid calorie like cola or fruit juices. 4. Brisk walks or jogging for 45 - 60 minutes every day. If this does not work then - what you need to do is consult someone who can help you holitically - proper nutrition, right kind of exercise (just few min a day), stress management and sleep improvement. Making changes in all 4 aspect, will help bring the underlying hormonal disturbances under proper control and you will be able to find more energy, and more excitement into your life. Weight loss will be just the byproduct! best wishes.

I am 52 years old Indian male. My height is 168 cms and my weight is 101 kgs. I am diabetic (H1 BC=6.8) and hypertensive taking regular tablets for both these ailments. I workout 4-5 times a week which has made substantial improvement to my blood sugar levels. But despite efforts I am unable to lose weight. Please help.

Dear to decrease your weight you have to do work out daily. Try the remedies below they can help u. 1. Mix three teaspoons of lemon juice, one teaspoon of honey, and one-half teaspoon of black pepper powder in one glass of water. 2. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. 3. Do this daily for at least three months. 4. Drink mint tea or make a paste of green mint with some simple spices and eat during meals. 5. Eat vegetables such as bitter gourd and drumsticks to control obesity. 6. Do bhujang asana, dhanurasana, naukasana, kumbhakasana, pavanamukthasana daily 10 min per asana. 7. Do running early morning daily and join aerobics in evening. 8. It would have better if you had mentioned the thyroid test values. Anyway, looking at your weight and height, your bmi is 29.29 kgs/m2, which very close to being grade 1 obesity. Your ideal body weight should be about 60 kgs. I am not aware of what efforts you have exactly done to reduce weight. Following are a few suggestions: 1) all your caloric needs have to be based on 60 kg. 2) since you want to loose weight total calories to be taken per day should be 60 x 20 = 1200 calories only. 3) you have to avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, sweetened aerated drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products, highly processed products, pastries and other bakery items, red meat and high fat milk products. 4) consume green leafy vegetables and salads as well as fruits. 5) use whole grain products and millets. 6) refrain from alcohol and smoking. Exercise daily at least for 1 hour. It is better if you join a gym and do workouts under the guidance of a professional trainer. Your aim should be to loose 1/2 kg weight per kg. Thanks.

Hello, you can have dessert, it is fine to have one cheat day a week if you work out daily. The effect of work out will start to show in your measurements after one month, but in weight, it can take three months of hard work for the weighing scale to go down. Some people gain an extra kilo when they start working out, but the body is coming in shape. Weight loss is a big challenge and not everyone's cup of tea. If you are working out, just don't give up. You don't have to starve yourself, eat, but eat right. Count the calories everyday.

Change your habits to change your body. Break your food addictions. Stay away from friends or relatives who are food addicts. Aim for long term weight loss..>> Add more Fruits /Salads to your diet. Double your water intake..>> Cut down Sweets/Biscuits/ Colas/Juices from your diet. .>> Cut down Puris/Parathas/Pizzas/Burgers/Fried Rice..>> Eat slowly and mindfully.   Reduce portion size..>> Exercise daily - 'Intense' Cardio for 40-60 mins.  This will keep you toned and trim. Walking 30 mins is not good enough. You need more exercise..>> Love yourself and respect your body.

Hi lybrate-user here are some changes to make to improve your eating habits: - incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your diet while eliminating unhealthy foods. - if you are working or studying away from home, try to pack healthy lunch and snacks for yourself to avoid eating unhealthy food daily. - don't eat straight from the packet - use a plate or bowl to control how much you eat. - don't delay or skip meals. - cut down your consumption of aerated drinks and sodas. - drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Drink water after waking up and before sleeping. Being dehydrated may make you feel like you're hungry, so it is important to stay hydrated. - have homemade fruit and vegetable juices - eat 5-6 small healthy meals every 2-3 hours, every day, instead of having a few big ones. This regulates your blood sugar level and your metabolism. - don't skip breakfast, instead, make it rich with complex carbohydrates and proteins, so it can provide you with energy to get through the day. Try to include the following as your morning breakfast, oats porridge, eggs on multigrain toast or daliya with sprouts. - avoid artificial sweeteners in processed foods. - eat slowly as it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to register if you're full or not. Hello You need not worry. You need to understand the concept of weight loss. It's a gradual process that requires cut down in calories under the guidance of a dietitian and regular exercise. Don't skip breakfast. Sleep for 7-9 hours per night. Avoid fried foods, sweets, carbonated drinks and processed foods. Include whole grains, sprouts, seasonal fruits and vegetables. Drink plenty of water. Take 3 main meals and 2 side meals. Take flaxseed powder 1 tsp with lukewarm water on empty stomach. Take green tea 3-4 cups a day. For detailed diet plan you can consult. Hi, I am doctor Aloy Mukherjee. I am a senior consultant in advanced laparoscopic surgical gastroenterology and Pediatrics surgery. I'm associated with Indraprastha Apollo Hospital for the last 15 years as a senior consultant. We at Apollo hospital have a dedicated team of doctors who address our patients. Our team encompasses three consultants, a nutritionist, resident doctors, physicians and medical gastroenterologist. Today I'm going to speak to about weight loss surgery, our Pediatric surgery.

As we know that basically is a common problem which is plagued the world over the last several decades. In India, this is a common problem going to the entry of several food chains from the West, but there by increasing our junk food intake. What is Pediatric surgery? Pediatric surgery aims to tackle the problem of obesity, by medical or surgical means, mostly surgical. There are 3 or 4 different types of procedures which are commonly performed in this. The commonest of which is a Laparoscopic gastric band. The other procedures include a gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy or VSG and sleeve gastrectomy and in many bypass. Who are the candidates would be enrolled into our program? Patients who are obese or morbidly obese, with comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, obstructive sleep apnea, disc problems, mostly arthritis in the knees, gastro phological reflux, secondary to obesity or any other life style disorders, secondary to obesity are enrolled in our program.

How do we calculate the body mass index? It’s a very simple calculation which is available in the most then all over the internet. It is the weight in the kilogram divided by the height and meters square a BMI of a 25 is considered normal. 25-30 is overweight. 30 to 35 is Class-I obesity or mild obesity. 35-40 is severe obesity and more than 40 is morbid obesity. Our patients are mostly in the category of 32 and above. It is not a cosmetic surgery. There by we are not attempting to make the patients lose weight for cosmetic reasons. They come here to be physically fit and mentally fit. They gain about 8-10 years of life after this surgery, which is a very important parameter. All the ancillary problems, the metabolic problems like diabetes, hypertension, requirement for antihypertensive drugs, requirements for oral hypoglycemic insulins are reversed almost completely after the surgery. Now that’s the significant gain.

Now to talk in detail about three or four forms of surgery. The commonest like I said is a gastric band in which a band is placed on the stomach. It is about very easy, very easy to perform and the filling port is usually done, is usually filled without patient’s department but it does not give us expected weight loss as we would have achieved in the other forms. Thereby it is not performed routinely across the world. The three other main procedures which are performed including, includes the laparoscopic gastric bypass which attains, which helps us attains a significant weight loss. Thereby we make a small out about the size of half a cup in that part of abdomen and bring up in the intestine to join it with this cup. We are bypassing a large segment of the stomach and the smaller. That is what's called a gastric bypass.

The weight loss primary due to a small gastric pouch and secondary to the man's option of this. The third procedure is a vertical sleeve gastrectomy in which the stomach is divided and meet into the 50 ml small pouch the rest of the stomach is taken out of the communicating body. This decreases the hormone ghrelin, which is required for the appetite and also makes it in our pouch. So these two procedures help us to attain significant weight loss. Other procedure is a mini gastric bypass which is also equally effective. How would a patient choose one procedure over the other? The patients talk to us come to us and decides one procedure to other after they have understood the advantages and disadvantages of a particular procedures and talk to a patient. And which is the right center of such a surgery is the right center is the center of excellence whereby which has a dedicated team of surgeons, medical gastroenterologist, physicians, clinical nutritionists and dietitians and a team of doctors and physicians who can actually explain them the procedure.

Hi lybrate-user to reduce belly fat you need to be particular about food choices & timings. Eat small & frequent meals. Include high fiber foods in your diet such as whole cereals & whole pulses. Drink plenty of water. Avoid refined foods from your diet such as maida, pasta. Keep check on your food intake.

I got operated for stone and my gall bladder was removed. My weight is increasing what should I do?
Hormonal disbalance should be corrected by administration of herbals. It may take six to eight weeks. First of all start drinking water kept in copper vessel overnight. Contact after two weeks.
