I have been facing right shoulder ankle pain from last 3 weeks. Could you suggest me any medicine or treatment.

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
Shoulder pain can be a result of injury or disease of the shoulder joint. Injury can affect any of the ligaments, bursae, or tendons surrounding the shoulder joint. Injury can also affect the ligaments, cartilage, menisci and bones of the joint. Some minor shoulder pain can be treated at home. Icing the shoulder for 15 to 20 minutes, three or four times a day for two to three days can help reduce pain. Use an ice bag or wrap ice in a towel (putting ice directly on your skin can cause frostbite). Rest the shoulder and avoid any movements that might cause pain. Simple shoulder exercises can help to stretch and strengthen muscles and rotator cuff tendons. A physiotherapist can show you how to do them properly. Please consult a physiotherapist for detail assessment and management of your condition. Ankle pain is often due to an ankle sprain but can also be caused by ankle instability, arthritis, gout, tendonitis, fracture, nerve compression (tarsal tunnel syndrome), infection and poor structural alignment of the leg or foot. Initial treatment may consist of rest, ice, elevation, and immobilization, but may also include pain medicine and physiotherapy treatment. Please see a physiotherapist who can best determine the cause of the ankle pain and appropriate treatment options. Best wishes.

Hello Ms. Lybrate-user, please see to it, that there is no swelling present, if injury had occurred in less than 48 hrs you can apply ice or vapocoolant spray, but if more than 48 hrs you can apply local heat in the vicinity of the injury. If pain & swelling still persists persistent please consult a competent orthopaedician.

D = apply moist heat pad to affected joint and muscles. If still you dont get relief consult physiotherapist as there are various causes for leg/ joint pain and some test may be required for further investigation. Best wishes.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Your knee pain and back pain could be due to some early degeneration setting in your joints due to which there is pain. My advice will be intensive back and knee exercises daily brisk walks for 2-3 km every day adequate calcium and vitamin d supplementation to start with gentle anti inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or tab paracetamol can be started provided it suits your body continue with hot saline fomentation 3-4 times in a day at home analgesic spray like dynapar qps spray can be used for local application 2-3 times in a day after fomentation. Let me know in 2-3 weeks time how you are feeling, otherwise we might have to get some blood tests and x rays done for you. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

These days youngesters having lots of low back and neck pain its just because of their posture, life style, and pure body balance. My suggession if you dont have any radiating pain in your lower limb then you can meet a good physiotherapist to tone your muscle though execises and some modalitie.

This is a compulsive disorder. You can take this drug as prescribed by your doctor. It can help you. But this is antidepressent and monitoring by doctor is needed. Mentally you should be stong and give positive commend. Ask your close friend to stop you by symbole or a word. You have to take steps and make up your strong mind set to over come this condition.

Quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Shoulder pain may be due to sciatica also. Get your self tested. Bending forward may increase your problem. Homoeopathy has effective treatment for your problem without adverse effects. Take rhustox 200 ---once daily in the morning for 5 days.

I am 20 Yeats old and I have backpain on last since 8 to 10 days I used combiflam after using combiflam I fell Mitch better now but totally not well.

M S Orthopaedics, MBBS

Hello lybrate user, good to hear that you are feeling much better from the pain relief medication. However, this is only symptomatic treatment and not the treatment of the cause. If adequate time has passed from the onset of your pain, I think the damaged tissue might have healed and it would be a good time to start you on physiotherapy exercises to strengthen your back muscles. Exercises help you increase the blood flow to your back and also improve the chances of removal of pain stimulating molecules from the site. They also help in stabilizing the spine. But, these exercises have to be started in a graded manner so that you don't injure yourself. You can consult a good physiotherapist or an orthopedic surgeon for the same. Hope this helps.

Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold). Keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.
