Dear lybrate-user, If it is a confirm diagnosis that you have pyorrhea, then the dentist may have suggested you to go for a cleaning of the teeth which would remove tartar buildup, also further further x-rays would be required to evaluate the extent of the disease and further minor gum surgery may also be required. Brush twice daily. Use Mouthwashes.

I am suffering from mandibular tori in my lower jaw and I think it becomes large in size in one side .
What should I ...
Normally tori do not need treatment unless they are interfering with function of the bite or the tongue movements. Usually you can leave it alone. Unless the size is changing over time. This may indicate some kind of underlying tumour that would need to be checked.

Pain in tooth in the same area where root canal was done previously and cap placed

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Sir I need to see your Xrays before commenting. We do not know if your gums are inflammed or your tooth is causing pain. If it's the gums then I suggest scaling at a local dentist. If it's the tooth then maybe a re-Rct with an endodontist.Take Combiflam for pain relief and tab Flagyl 200 mg three times a day for three to five days.

Broken File in Root Canal. I just had a root canal done today due to a deep filling I've had for a while. During the procedure, the general dentist broke the file inside the root.

Any dentist that does root canal procedures will have this occur. The main issue was the tooth vital or necrotic before the procedure and was adequate irrigation performed before the break. If the tooth was badly infected and the file broke early in the procedure then the chances are high you will have problems. If the procedure was a vital case and multiple irrigation solutions were used and allowed to be in the tooth for a long period of time you have better chances. The file being in the tooth is not bad but the pathology beyond the broken file is the issue.

Do not rinse vigorously, suck on straws, smoke, drink alcohol or brush teeth next to the extraction site for 48 hours. If possible chew on the opposite side of your extraction site. Drink lots of liquids and eat soft, nutritious foods. Strictly avoid hard, hot food & drinks for first 24 hours. Avoid spicy food. Eat food like dalia, khichadi.

Although excessive saliva is not too common, there are a number of conditions that can cause it - some harmless, others more serious. It is possible that your saliva problems are just a result of the way you speak. Some people speak faster or slower than others, just as some people blink more often, breathe faster, or have a more rapid heartbeat. This may just be what's normal for you. Since it is negatively affecting your life, I suggest your problem can be ignored. However there are medical conditions that causes excessive salivation Injection Glycopyrrolate reduces secretions in the mouth, throat, airway, and stomach.

Dairy products, soft breads, softer grains, sea food and soft meat, soft cooked vegetables and many more are braces friendly foods i.E. Which can be eaten without any difficulty even when one is undertaking the orthodontic treatment.

My mother is not able to eat spicy food. Though she can eat cold and hot beverages and food items. There are white striations in the corner of the mouth. Medicines prescribed by the dentists were sm fibre which had to be taken twice a day. Her teeth were pointed, so she also got them straight from the dentists. A solution was also given to gargle mouth before going to bed. She has also changed the brush and toothpaste. All these prescriptions have been followed by her but there has been no improvement till now. Please suggest me on what to do now.

From your question and drug prescribed by dentist it looks to be a case of osmf. Initially there is ulceration in mouth and progressive fibrosis of oral submucous fibrous causing inability to open the mouth, oral submucous fibrosis (osmf) is a chronic progressive pre-cancerous condition. It is associated with areca nut chewing, the main component of betel quid. Pt should stop chewing areca nut and tobacco (if has habit?) minimizing consumption of spicy foods, including chiles. Round offpointed teeth and extract third molars. Intralesional injection of hyaluronidase & hydrocortisone acetate will help to improve faster. It will take time. Thank you.

Cavities or Dental Caries

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Play video

Hi friend, I am  Dr Goyal. I am a dentist from Mumbai India. Tday I will talk about cavities and dental caries as we call it. This is the condition which is affecting almost everyone in some or the other form. Most commonly seen in children and teens even adults post 50 years of age are not insulated from this sort of problems , because the moment the gums start to go down we start getting cavities on the root surfaces of our teeth.

How do these cavities form?

We have a lot of normal bacteria in our mouth which use up the food staff which we eat and form a thin film called plaque on our teeth. This plaque thermos the acid which in turn removes the calcium from the enamel of our tooth making the tooth soft and susceptible to removal by any means. The best way to keep our mouth free of cavities is to clean our mouth after eating anything, that has been always told by everyone. But there is more, this give and take of calcium from enamel is always going on. The moment we eat something the acid levels of our saliva goes up which removes the calcium from our tooth but at the same time the same saliva is going on replenishing this calcium and phosphate iron in our teeth. If this balance is broken the moment the removal of calcium is more, then the resupply of calcium we end up getting cavities.

The best way to avoid this is to limit the number of meals e have per day. It is recommended to have not more than four meals a day . after every meal we need to clean our mouth properly possibly brush our teeth but at the same time it is very important to note that we should not brush our teeth immediately after eating because that is when the saliva is more acidic leaving our enamel more susceptible to damage by brushing itself. Brushing itself may cause lot of damage so wait for a few minutes before you brush your teeth. If it is not possible to brush atleast rinse your mouth forcefully there are lot of fluoridated toothpaste available in India also which have a formulation called as anti k which lets our saliva carry more calcium and phosphate which will repair the damage which has been done by the acids on the enamel . all in all get into a healthy habbit of brushing after every meal , eat healthy food , avoid very sticky food avoid too many colas avoid too many chocolates and you can get rid of habbit of cavity formation and be healthy.

Thank you very much for more information you can contact us via lybrate .

Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. Kindly consult a physician & dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouthwash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush.
