You are not diabetic, neither your blood sugar levels are normal. You are prediabetic on way to develop diabetes if strict, disciplined measures are not taken immediately. Weight control, regular exercise & diet can help. Try brisk walks 40 mins. A day for 5 days a week. Plus avoid sweets, sugar.Eat 5-times at regular 3 hrly intervals small meals with enough leafy vegetables. (A dietician can help you ).Repeat FBS, PPBS & also get your Hb1C & lipid profile done after 3 weeks. If these reports are normal you can continue the same. HbAIC should be 6.7% or less. Repeat these tests every 3 months. You may need medications if your blood sugar levels do not reach normal levels. The lipid levels may also need to be normalized if high. Hope this helps. Take care.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. If he has diabetes and if blood glucose is not well controlled then there is bound to be excess tiredness and unexplained weight loss. This will lead to severe general weakness. So it is essential to control blood glucose quickly with appropriate medications. If you are interested in online consultation then I can be of help, provided he follows all the instructions and takes medications correctly. For that you need to come in a private conversation with following details: current fasting, PP blood glucose levels, HbA1c%, his dietary pattern in detail, extent of daily physical exercise, weight and height. Based on all that information I will be able to guide. Or else get in touch with agood diabetologist in your place. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, if you have diabetes t2, then it is essential to have good control of blood sugar, for that fasting should be near 100 mg, pp shoud be 150 to 160 mg (as you have now) and hba1c% < 6.8. Diet for a person with diabetes has to be very individualised, so I need to know present dietary habits, fasting sugar levels and hba1c% plus daily exercise level. In the mean time avoid sweets, direct sugar and gur, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits. Also exercise regularly for at least 1 hour. Our is just about 20 kg/m2 which is in fact much lower than normal bmi of 23 kg/m2.

Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. flax oil, Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. My father recently tested sugar and it is 290 in fasting. We consulted a doctor today and he advised to take insulin with power 20 morning and 16 night. My parents are very worried and I have never seen my father so weak before. I am trying hard to make the situation light by smiling and sharing many website notes where it is mentioned that it is curable and nothing to worry. They feel a bit relieved but still something is killing them inside. I am keeping myself strong by saying positive things to them but the truth is I am scared inside. Please suggest me what is the best possible treatment for this disease so that I can see my papa jumping and smiling. I know he is very strong but I also know that he is very worried. Can this be curable? I love them a lot please give me some power so that I can make them much strong and my father can get out of this disease completely.

You are a Diabetic! This news is not a welcome news but consider that you are one of the lucky people out of millions in our country who have diabetes and don't even know about that! Diabetes is one of the most controllable illnesses in this world but problem with our mindset is that we consider ourselves sick when we are taking medicines not when we have our sugar levels high! If you take medicines you will be absolutely fine! So please don't delay your treatment.

tsh level of 15.5 mi units/ml is quite high, it signifies you have hypothyroidism, this is a condition which has to be treated with thyroxine hormone to be taken for life time. This is because thyroid gland is not working properly, so you need to replace that hormone.

I generally feels pain in the both feet and legs may be due to increased of uric acid. I tested my blood 6 months back, uric acid was increased up to 9 on that time. I take moderate quantity of wine on weekend only. I m 52 years male. Pl advise me.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
The first thing you should do is to eat foods that are high in fiber, This is because fiber rich foods absorb uric acid from the blood. Your kidneys then'throw' out the excess uric acid. Try to eat Oatmeal, Spinach, cauliflowers and Isabgol in milk if possible.  Please use olive oil to cook your food. Kindly avoid vegetable oils because they become unhealthy when heated twice. This leads to rancid fat in the body. These destroy vitamin E, that in turn controls uric acid levels. Olive oil also curbs uric acid by itself.  Vitamin C chewable tablets taken 500mg daily lower uric acid levels within 4 to 8 weeks.  Try to stop intake of sweets, cakes and pastries. Saturated fats are bad for you.  Many fruits have got potent anti-oxidant properties, like celery seeds, grapes and tomatoes, and these prevent harmful toxins from attacking your organs - releasing uric acid.

If you are overweight with poorly managed diabetes, there are foods you should eat, but honey is not one of them. If you have well-managed diabetes, are not overweight and are otherwise healthy, then honey as a replacement for sugar is likely beneficial. I would certainly not go as far as to say additional honey is good for diabetes though; the evidence is not that solid. After all, honey is sugar, which is a root cause of the problem of diabetes in the first place.

Dear sir your blood sugar levels are high. You definitely need anti diabetic treatment. I will advise you to go for allopathic treatment to get better control and prevent complications of diabetes. Your pain in joints may automatically subside when sugar levels come to normal range. If you are obese and hypertensive then additional treatment and lifestyle modifications will be required. Please contact physician near you. Your lipid profile looks at borderline. If you are obese or overweight then statin therapy is required.
