Sir, their is a continuous cracking sound coming out from my right elbow while moving it in a particular way. But it is absolutely pain free. I would like to ask you what must be the causes of these sounds. And the sound is like rhymed tic collision between bones or tendon.

Hi thanks for query Repititive sounds in elbow without pain might be a normal phenomenon. But to rule out other causes better consult orthopedician and get an Xray.

I met with an accident 1 year ago and fractured my right arm but after complete rest and proper care it still hurts me whenever lifting heavy weight. What should I do?

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
Normally you should be able to return to weightlifting about three to four months after your injury. Once your fracture heals, the joints are typically stiff and the surrounding muscles are weak because they haven't been used during immobilized time. You will need to increase your range of motion and strengthen your hand muscles before returning to weight lifting. Please consult a physiotherapist to find out what's causing you pain and the right pain management solution.

What type of mattress should be used to avoid Backpain?
Back pain is one of the top reasons that people start to lose mobility in middle age. Pain can prevent people from engaging in physical activity, making it more difficult for them to maintain a healthy weight and keep up their strength, stamina, and balance as they age. So treating and handling back pain that results from injuries or health problems is crucial for staying on the path of a healthy and active life.

Seeing that most people spend roughly a third of their lives lying in bed, choosing the right mattress is essential for managing low back pain. It can realize the difference in whether you can sleep at night and function the next day.

In the past, doctors often recommended very firm mattresses. But one study, based on a waiting-room survey of 268 people with low back pain, found that those who slept on orthopedic (very hard) mattresses had the poorest sleep quality. There was no difference in sleep quality between those who used medium-firm and firm mattresses.

Soft mattresses, on the other hand, can also be problematic. While a soft mattress that adjusts to your body?s natural curves may help the joints align favorably, you might also sink in so deeply that your joints twist and become painful during the night.

If you desire to find out whether a firmer mattress would feel better than the one you?re currently using, try putting a plywood board under your mattress to dampen the movement from the bedsprings, or try placing your mattress on the floor.

Of course, you can also go to a mattress showroom and test a variety of models. Simply keep in mind that what feels comfortable for a few minutes in a store might not translate into a good night?s sleep. A more reliable test is to discover how you feel after sleeping on different types of mattresses while away from home ? for example, at a hotel or a friend or relative?s house.

I have a ligament injury fm 5 years. I can't able to run. So should I go for operation and can I get back my leg as normal it was before?

BPTh/BPT, MPTh/MPT
Physiotherapist,
Ideally you should recover completely after 5 years of ligament injury. You should go for a physiotherapy rehabilitation program for knee for at least 3 months. Before planning the surgery. As physiotherapy will strengthen your joint and make it more efficient.

Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having pain in the joints. You can do hot water steaming to reduce the headache which might be due to sinusitis.

I got stitches on my left knee. I got them removed today. Bt when I folded my knee the wound opened up a bit. Bt did not bleed and there was no pain. The duty doctor just dressed up my wound and said avoid folding movement it will heal up. Will it really heal up or will I get stitches again?

Post Graduate Diploma in Echocardiography, Mbbs
General Physician, Ernakulam
usually we keep the stiches for 2 weeks. Over any joints. Have you kept it for that duration. Ok now that stiches are out. You have to wait and bending definitely increases the gapping. Redoing the suturing is laborious. Wait for it to heal. But minimise bending so that scarring can be minimal.

Hand exercise dear you can do it easly. 1, Pinch Strengthener This exercise helps strengthen the muscles of your fingers and thumb. It can help you turn keys, open food packages, and use the gas pump more easily. •Pinch a soft foam ball or some putty between the tips of your fingers and your thumb. •Hold for 30 to 60 seconds. •Repeat 10 to 15 times on both hands. Do this exercise two to three times a week, but rest your hands for 48 hours in between sessions. Don't do this exercise if your thumb joint is damage Finger Lift Use this exercise to help increase the range of motion and flexibility in your fingers. •Place your hand flat, palm down, on a table or other surface. •Gently lift one finger at a time off of the table and then lower it. •You can also lift all your fingers and thumb at once, and then lower. •Repeat eight to 12 times on each han Thumb Extension Strengthening the muscles of your thumbs can help you grab and lift heavy things like cans and bottles. •Put your hand flat on a table. Wrap a rubber band around your hand at the base of your finger joints. •Gently move your thumb away from your fingers as far as you can. •Hold for 30 to 60 seconds and release. •Repeat 10 to 15 times with both hands. You can do this exercise two to three times a week, but rest your hands for 48 hours in between sessions. Thumb Touch This exercise helps increase the range of motion in your thumbs, which helps with activities like picking up your toothbrush, fork and spoon, and pens when you write. •Hold your hand out in front of you, with your wrist straight. •Gently touch your thumb to each of your four fingertips, one at a time, making the shape of an" O. •Hold each stretch for 30 to 60 seconds.
