My thyroid TSH came 6.5. What to do?

MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
Endocrinologist,
My thyroid TSH came 6.5. What to do?
if you are not taking medicine for it then now you can take tab. thyroxine - 75 mcg before meal daily in morning. and Take diet for hypothyroidism:- high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread, Nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: Blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. flax oil, Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. Taking a supplement may help, Avoid few foods in hypothroidism i.e. caffeine products tea, coffee, tabcco, alcohol / wine , kale, broccoli, spinach, mustard green, cabbage, turnip, millet, cassava, linseeds, pine nuts, soy products as soy milk, tofu, soybeans, soy souce, also avoid stress. Take Some Relax during work. Proper follow up you can feel better and reduce weight also. welcome in lybrate.

How to control thyroid, is there any natural treatment for this. I do not want to use medicine no more.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. If you are referring to hypothyroidism, then please understand it is a condition occurring due to deficiency of thyroxine hormone produced by thyroid gland. This is an important hormone required daily for development and functioning of brain, plus a great number of metabolic activities in the body. So it needs to be made available every day, through a tablet. Hence the treatment has to go on for life time. There is no other option.

lybrate-user, If proper treatment is going on with adequate dosage of thyroxine then TSH is maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L. In that situation all the symptoms are in check, plus efforts to control weight are also successful. Looking at your weight and height there grade 2 obesity with a BMI of 36.97 kgs/M2. You are carrying 38 kgs extra weight. Please make a serious effort to reduce weight by at least 5 to 8 %. If your baby did not have hypothyroidism at birth, then it is unlikely develop at least for now. Thanks.

My wife suffering from infertility as high FSH. Is any treatment for it?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist,
It is important to know that on what day of menstrual cycle was this fsh done. It is advised to get it done on day 3 of your menses along with s. Estradiol. Normally high fsh means diminished ovarian reserve. Amh levels and antral follicle count and if required a few other tests should be done to know about ovarian reserve.

I am 30 year man. I have constant count of uric acid. How to control uric acid which foods contain more uric acid.
Some people are genetically made who prduce more uric acid. Any thing than increase muscle breakdown increases uric acid. It can be endogenous that is increase breakdown of muscle due to disease or heavy exercise. Or exogenous due to heavy nonvegetarian meal. Or due to taking of food vegetarian dietcontaining high uric acid levels like palak, tomatoes, turnips etc.

You have to follow a very disciplined life style if you have diabetes. If your sugar levels are high for a prolonged period of time, then there are chances that you may develop issues in your eyes, kidneys and nerves. You have to immediately get your sugar levels into controlled levels. In case of diabetes you have to eat nutrient dense food and exercise well. You need a diet which comprises of whole grains like jowar, bajra, wheat, brown rice, pulses like moong, musoor, bengal gram, lots of vegetables, fruits, eggs, fish, chicken, paneer, healthy oil, nuts and seeds. You need to eat them in right proportion. Avoid eating sugar and sweets, refined foods like maida, noodles pasta, white rice and products, bread. Drink a lot of water. Exercise atleast 5 times a week. Do not overeat. Eat 3 proper meals and 2 snacks in between. Stop when your stomach is 80% full. Eat slowly.

What are the main reasons for diabetes. Please conform me once whether prediabetes patient will get surely diabetes.
Mr. Lybrate-user, diabetes mellitus occurs due to either lack of insulin or resistance to its action or both. This is true with t2 dm. In t1 diabetes there is no insulin production by beta cells of pancreas, usually due to autoimmune problem. There are anti bodies against beta cells. T2 dm is a familial disease. If both parents have diabetes then 75% of off-springs are likely to it. It is also a preventable disease. Persons with pre diabetic stage can prevent or delay developing of diabetes by adapting a healthier life style. 1) maintain normal weight, avoid central obesity (fat around abdomen), 2) adapt an active life style, exercise daily for at least 1 hour, brisk walk is ideal, 3) take a proper balanced diet, avoiding deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, sweetened aerated drinks, high fat milk products and highly processed foods. 4) refrain from alcohol and smoking 5) maintain a bmi <23 kg /m2.8) consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads and fruits.

Hye, Thanks for the query. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - The sugar levels will fluctuate depending on what you ate or did not eat, stress levels and activity levels. You have to try and manage a balanced carb intake. Have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. You have to eat 3 main and 3 mid meals. Your diet must include whole grains, seasonal fruits, vegetables, small amounts of nuts and dairy and pulses or dals or lean meats like chicken or fish and egg. Starchy vegetables need to be planned into the diet. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Avoid exercise if sugar levels are above 250 mg/dl. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.
