Dear Lybrateuser, - You should first try to control your blood sugar level by lifestyle changes - have more of fibre containing foods like fruits & vegetables, legumes including pulses, lentils, beans, sprouts, low fat proteins, lean meats - avoid fried, processed & junk foods, also sweets, salty snacks, alcohol & tobacco if you do so - have 5-6 small meals including snacks rather than three large meals, chew your food well, do nit skip meals, have meals on time - reduce your weight by diet & exercise, sugar level will come down - do regular exercise like walking, jogging, swimming for one hour, also include moderate weight lifting twice a day, do yoga & deep breathing for 5-10 min daily morning to keep fit - monitor sugar & can consult a dietician for proper diet - follow the lifestyle measures for 3-4 months & if no decrease then consult a doctor.

What is diabatic and for what reason humans facing diabatic, how to avoid diabetic?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Diabetes is a disease occurring due to defect in secretion of insulin a hormone secreted by beta cells of pancreas. There are many types of diabetes, but mainly there are two types, type 1 diabetes mellitus and t2dm. T1dm occurs because beta cells do not produce any insulin; seen in very young age including children. Only insulin injections can treat this condition. T2dm seen in adults, older aged persons. In this condition either insulin secretion is less or there is resistance to its action or both. In addition overweight, inactivity, migration to bigger cities and junk food are few of the other causes leading to diabetes. The incidence of t2dm is increasing too rapidly now a days.

Tsh value of 5.03 milli units/l, is just above the normal limit. This condition is called as sub clinical hypothyroidism. Usually no treatment is advised. Overt hypothyroidism is considered when tsh level crosses 10 milli units/l. The precautions to be taken include avoiding soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, peanuts, radish, mustard and coffee. Use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. Plus consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and fruits (all types of fruits). In addition daily 1 hour exercise is a must. That will help inremaining fit and healthy. No medicine is required for now. Thanks for the question.

Fruit salad and blood sugar estimation by glucometer do not mix.
Eating fruits with fingers and doing blood sugar by glucometer without washing fingers with soap and water can give high blood sugar just by sugar sticking to fingers.Even cleaning finger tips with alcohol swab will not help.If eaten fruit with fingers, then wash your hand first before doing blood sugar by glucometer.

She is a diabetic patient. Now she is losing hair quickly. She has a problem of cold. If she eats a slice of cucumber, then we were worried about her cold. Today a stone is getting in her throat. And it is hurting. Is this the symptoms of thyroid? Can you help me with this?

Healthy and glossy hair depends on a healthy and wholesome diet. Hair is made up of protein so a protein rich diet helps grow hair strong and healthy. Minerals are also important for lustrous hair. A recommended protein diet includes wheatgerm, pulses, legumes, and most importantly, soybean. Soybean is not only an excellent source of protein but it also acts as a dht (dihydrotestosterone) inhibitor reducing dht levels in the body. Along with protein, vitamin a and b rich foods like mangoes, dark green leafy vegetables, carrots, dried apricots, wholegrain cereals and peas will help prevent hair loss.

Hello, Thanks for your question. I am Dr Akshay from Fortis hospital, New Delhi. I think you are prone to high uric acid levels quiet often. My advise is to make dietary modification which means less amount of red meat and especially rice, but you should go to a dietician and get a diet chart made to be strictly followed till your levels come down to normal values. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & Regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena

I am 21 year old. I have gone for thyroid test. The thyroid (TSH, ULTRASENSITIVE) value is 7.82 uU/ml. Is it normal or exceed the normal range. Please suggest me.

MS - ENT,MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Kolkata
No this value is not normal. It's a sign of hypothyroidism Get an USG Neck done FT3/FT3/TSH in fasting condition (12 hours fasting: give blood in the morning empty stomach. Share your reports on Lybrate. It's important  you maintain  your body weight exercise regularly. Weight gain increases thyroid hormone requirements. Avoid cruciferous   group of veggies  like cabbage and broccoli. Avoid soya bean in all forms. No soya, nugget, chunk, tofu or milk. Limit their intake: Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, turnips, and bok choy. Cooking the vegetables can reduce the effect that cruciferous vegetables have on the thyroid gland. Limiting your intake to 5 ounces a day appears to have no adverse effect on thyroid function. Decrease gluten  intake from processed  food. Always try whole grain varieties of cereals which is rich in fibres and help improve  bowels (Take your thyroid replacement  medicine several hours before or several hours after food rich in fibres. Otherwise problem  with absorption  of hormone. 20 to 35 gram of fibres daily from all sources. Avoid excessive fatty (deep fried) and sugary food as hypothyroidism  causes your metabolism  to slow down &weight gain. Avoid highly salted food, chips, pickles, sauces as they Contain  large amount of sodium. Hypothyroidism  puts you at risk of high BP and excess sodium in salt aggravates Coffee  in excess. And coffee with thyroid hormone  replacement  can prevent absorption. Alcohol. It is toxic to thyroid gland and prevents  hormone production and absorption. The problems of hypothyroidism  gets better with medicines, diet and exercise. You will start better as the levels of your hormone normalises. Initially  you need to do the TSH test every 6 weeks till normal TSH then every 3 months Hope this helps

Hi, I am Ms. Vamsy got married since4 months unable to conceive. I am 28 and my husband is 36 yrs old May I know the reason please? 1. I have frequent urination but no diabetes. I always drink water 2. During intercourse there is white discharge every time no fishy smell, but it happens even before periods and after periods.

M. sc Psychology, BHMS
Homeopath, Hyderabad
Hi lybrate-user, white discharge befeore&after periods is normal phenomena for any healthy women& even its common during midterm of cycle. Means 2nd&3rd wk after periods also, as then that is ovulation time,&so the dicharge is. Unless its offencive odored, with any itching, rash over extrenal area, staining the linen greenish or yellowish in colour, then we could suspect any infection, then some times both couple should use the medications based on the diagnosis&if any infections I identified. As you are taking more intake of water, then the out floew also will be more. Once you can check by taking less intake or avoiding water intake for few hrs&then observe, still the same frequency is maintaining or not so. Anyway, there are no sugar levels identified in test, you need not worry& at the same time you continue the more intake of water as usual which is good for body ingeneral. **abt conception, iys just 4 months only since married, so, you need not worry abt pregnancy. Plan the intercourse during ovulation period, i. E. From 2nd wk to 3rd wk. More often. If your menstrual cycle is normal, then you need not to worry. But still you are anxious, or after waiting 2 more months, you both try to go for check ups, including harmones[ like thyroid, lsh, etc}& for your husband. Semen analysis.
