Mr. Lybrate-user, if your diabetes is in check, with sugar levels near normal and if there is no erectile dysfunction, then there is no problem of youand wife having a healthy baby. In diabetes if sugar control is not good then impotence is very common. So see that your sugar levels are well in control.

My wife is 30 years old. Yesterday we got her thyroid profile done. Her T3 and T4 are normal but TSH is elevated. It is 8.58. What should we do? Homeopathy or allopathy? Pls help!

BHMS, MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Navi Mumbai
Dear Lybrate user, these reports points towards hypothyroidism. Homoeopathy acting upon endocrine system regulates release of TSH, which ultimately will normalise, but this will not happen in 1 or 2 days, you ll need to ve patience. I ll advise you to go for homoeopathy.

Reduce your weight by 25 to 30 kg if possible by strict diet and exercise. Your medicine list shows you are hypertensive as well so it is better for your heart to do that. You should have a low carbohydrate diet (avoiding potatoes, rice, direct sugar etc) and eat a lot of salads for fiber and filling effect. Eat frequent small meals in place of 2 full meals

How to loose excess weight? How to detect the thyroid in our body is their any per meant solution for this?
Start your day with lemon juice This is one of the best therapies to eliminate belly fat. Pinch some yellow juice into a glass of warm water and add some salt to it. Continue drinking this every morning to boost your metabolism and to get rid of that paunch. Stay off from white rice Replace white rice with various wheat products. Include brown rice, brown bread, wholegrains, oats and quinoa in your diet. Avoid sugary substances Stay away from sweets, sweetened drinks and foods rich in oil. Consuming these foods can increase body fat around various areas of your body like abdomen and thighs. Drink plenty of water If you want to get rid of your belly, then drink sufficient amount of water every day. Drinking water, after regular intervals will help to boost your metabolism and remove toxins from your body. Eat raw garlic Chew two to three cloves of garlic every morning, and drink a glass of lemon water after that. This treatment will double up your weight loss process and make your blood circulation smooth in your body. Avoid non-veg food To eliminate belly fat, it is recommended that one should avoid non-vegetarian food as far as possible. Load up on fruits and vegetables Eat a bowl of fruits daily in the morning and evening. This will fill you up with many antioxidants, minerals and vitamins. Spice up your cooking Use spices like cinnamon, ginger and black pepper in your cooking. These spices are loaded with health benefits. They help to improve your insulin resistance and reduce levels of sugar in your blood. For detecting thyroid you need to do three test- TSH. FT4, FT3.

Diabetes diet ki jankari chahaiye sir.? Thank you
A person with diabetes has to eat a balanced diet, that means he should get his calories from all the three food stuffs like carbohydrates, proteins & fats. But certain guidelines to be followed are - eat complex carbohydrates (whole grain ata), no maida, no direct sugar, no sweets, avoid deep fried foods, use more green vegetables like palak, methi, cabbaige, cauliflower, tomatos, cucumber etc. Total daily intake has to be calculated based on your ideal body weight and physical activity level.

Pay close attention to your food choice. ·        Eat less carbohydrate food sources like chapatti, rice, noodles, pasta, bread etc as they help in gaining weight and storing fat. ·        While having lunch or dinner eat vegetables and dal to fill your stomach rather eating lots of chapattis or rice. ·        Have a healthy breakfast like poha, idli, upma, plain dosa, oats, dalia or khichdi with vegetables. ·        Eat a balance diet including good quality proteins like: fish, lean chicken and eggs. If you are a vegetarian then include skimmed milk, low fat paneer, butter milk, soy bean or soy milk in your diet. ·        Avoid ghee, butter or vanaspati. Prepare your diet with vegetable oil like sunflower, safflower soybean or olive oil. ·        Eat plenty of salads. ·        Eat fresh fruits including apple, orange, pineapple, papaya, sweet lime, berries, guava, watermelon, mask melon etc. ·        Avoid eating outside junk and fried foods like pizza, pasta, roll, burgers, cakes, chocolates and cookies. ·        Have an early dinner. The earlier the better, giving your system more time to digest the food. ·        Avoid cold drinks/alcohol as they add empty calories to your diet. ·        Avoid fat enriched milk products like cheese, sweets, full fat cream etc. ·        Drink 3 liters of water in a day. ·        Try to have less sugar in food and beverages. ·        Try to drink 2 cups of green tea in a day as green tea helps in weight loss by aiding digestion. ·        Avoid red meat like mutton, beef, lamb or pork. ·        Eat sprouts or roasted chana, whenever you feel hungry.

Hi I am having issue of thyroid I just come to know that I am suffering of thyroid so please explain due to which deficiency thyroid issue is coming.

MBBS, MRCGP ( UK), Diploma in Diabetes (UK), DFSRH (UK), DRCOG (UK)
Endocrinologist, Hyderabad
Hello, I am assuming you are having hypothyroidism. This occurs due to the thyroid gland not producing adequate amount of thyroid hormones T4 and T3. Now-a days hypothyroidism is mainly due to autoimmune thyroiditis in which the body's defence system fights against the body's own organs. Iodine deficiency in diet can also lead to hypothyroidism. Hope this helps you thank you

What is the best way of improving health if he is suffering from sugar.

CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology, MBBS
Endocrinologist,
What is the best way of improving health if he is suffering from sugar.
If any one has blood sugar problem (diabetes mellitus) then maintaining or improving health is only possible if proper medication is taken and sugar level is brought under control all the while. In addition 1 h daily exercise, restricted dietary intake as advised by the doctor, avoiding sweets, direct sugar and deep fried foods is a must. Plus increase the intake of green salads and vegetables and certain fruits. Keep a watch on sugar levels regularly so as to maintain with in normal limits. Maintain weight near normal for your height (ideal body weight = height in cms - 100 x 0.9 = kgs)

Your glucose levels are well above the normal range- qualifying you as a diabetic. Unfortunately, diabetic symptoms are not standardised and not all patients suffer from the symptoms. The most important information for diagnosis is the glucose level which you have just shared here. Hence, without any doubt- please plan your further treatment for diabetes.

Does dark chocolate affect the sugar level content of the body or for diabetic patients?

Does dark chocolate affect the sugar level content of the body or for diabetic patients?
Dark chocolate without sugar is very bitter, but has benefits as it contains flavonoids and other anti oxidants. About 20 g a day does help insulin sensitivity. But eating large quantity adds to blood sugar level.
