Mr. Lybrate-user, the glucose values mentioned show (after food) show that you have impaired glucose tolerance (igt), it is also called as prediabetes. No treatment with drugs is advised, however, a modified lifestyle adaptation is needed to prevent it from progressing to full fledged diabetes. This includes daily exercise of more than 1 hour a day, taking a restricted diet that gives exact calories based on ideal body weight, and extent of daily exercise. Consuming more of green leafy vegetables, salads, fruits. Avoiding sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, and pastries. Also refrain from aerated sweetened drinks, fructose corn syrup containing products, highly processed foods, high fat milk products. Keep a periodic check of blood sugar.

Hi, I wanted to know if there is any treatment of diabetes mellitus in naturopathy.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Hi, I wanted to know if there is any treatment of diabetes mellitus in naturopathy.
NO and is dangerous unless you control diabetes well. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance... if you keep in touch personally.

continue your thyroid medicine.and High cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take green veg., whole grain.garlic,. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

How blood sugar can be controlled and when to use insulin?

SLE, FELLOWSHIP IN DIABETOLOGY, DIPLOMA IN PSYCHOLOGY MENTAL HEALTH AND ILLNESS, PLAB (MANCHESTOR, UK), FAGE, MBBS
General Physician,
How blood sugar can be controlled and when to use insulin?
When to take insulin in diabetes from being diagnosed as a new diabetic to many years later after it the question that haunts diabetics is whether I should take insulin now or in the future. If you are a type diabetic (in young people) you start with insulin right away but if you are diagnosed with late onset diabetes (above 35 years- exceptions apply) you delay it for as long as possible. The answer to this is simple. You continue on diet, exercise and tablets as long as you can maintain your sugar levels within normal and when in spite of this your blood sugar levels are uncontrolled (consistently above 200 mg/dl) and you are developing complications such as high blood sugar levels, infections (unresolving) or ketoacidosis etc. Obviously the trouble to take insulin is not more than being confined to an icu bed and hence you will need to start taking insulin once twice or even thrice a day.

Is diabetic problem curable as claimed in tv?

Advanced Aesthetics
Ayurveda,
No the increase in the blood sugar levels damages nerves and blood vessels. It also leads to complications like cardiovascular diseases, strokes, kidney problems, blindness, dental problems and amputations. High blood glucose levels also damage nerves and blood vessels. Diabetes can also lead to depression, fertility issues, and increased risk of other diseases and lack of mobility as the age of the person increases. It is very difficult to find out what exactly triggers diabetes, but health experts say that genes and environmental factors are responsible for rise in blood glucose levels. There are two types of diabetes- type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Let us study the causes that give rise to type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Diabetes is a grave medical condition, but with a healthy diet and regular exercise, managing the condition becomes a child? s play. Here are a handful of diabetes home remedies every diabetic can rely on to keep fluctuations of sugar levels under control. Bitter gourd: bitter gourds are one among the most effective ways for preventing sugar level fluctuations. Being a safe vegetable, this iron-rich gourd can be consumed by anyone. It influences the glucose metabolism in the body and helps stimulate pancreatic insulin secretion. Known to thwart off insulin resistance, bitter gourd is equally beneficial for people suffering from type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Drink a glass of bitter gourd juice, flavored with a little honey, every morning to keep diabetes away. Guava is rich in both vitamin c and fiber, both that help in maintaining normal blood sugar levels. A very good home remedy for diabetes. Just peel the skin and consume one fruit daily to reap its benefits get some physical activity daily to burn calories and stay in shape. This will also reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Have a lot of fiber in the form of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains any queries inform me.

Mr. Lybrate-user, if you are controlling blood sugar well it is really good. Good control means fasting closer to 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg and hba1c%<6.8. Secondly slightly higher blood sugar level or even much higher level is hardly producing any day to day changes in symptoms. Blurring of vision can occur particularly if hypoglycemia (<70 mg/100ml) is seen. I suggest get your retinal examination done by visiting a good ophthalmologist. Thanks for the question.

Hi, Share his reports to know about the exact figure. When you eat excess calories and fat, your body responds by creating an undesirable rise in blood glucose. Making healthy food choices and tracking your eating habits can help you manage your blood glucose level and keep it within a safe range. For most people with type 2 diabetes, weight loss also can make it easier to control blood glucose and offers a host of other health benefits. Make your calories count with these nutritious foods: -Focus on the healthiest carbohydrates, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes (beans, peas and lentils) and low-fat dairy products. -Fiber-rich foods. Dietary fiber includes all parts of plant foods that your body can't digest or absorb. Fiber can decrease the risk of heart disease and help control blood sugar levels. Foods high in fiber include vegetables, fruits, nuts, legumes (beans, peas and lentils), whole-wheat flour and wheat bran. -Fish can be a good alternative to high-fat meats. For example, cod, tuna and halibut have less total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol than do meat and poultry. Fish such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, sardines and bluefish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which promote heart health by lowering blood fats called triglycerides. However, avoid fried fish and fish with high levels of mercury, such as tilefish, swordfish and king mackerel. -Eat'Good' fats such as avocados, almonds, pecans, walnuts, olives, and canola, olive and peanut oils — can help lower your cholesterol levels. Eat them sparingly, however, as all fats are high in calories. -Avoid high-fat dairy products and high-fat animal proteins (red meat, lamb, beef, pork, egg yolks, shellfish, liver). -Trans fat which are found in processed snacks, baked goods, shortening and stick margarines and should be avoided completely. -Include other aspects of lifestyle modification, such as increasing physical activity and losing weight (Always keep a small carbohydrate snack, like fruit or a fruit drink, on hand in case your blood sugar gets low). If you're not active now, start with 10 minutes of exercise at a time. Gradually work up to 30 minutes a day. *****Ask him to keep a check on his blood sugar regularly after every 6months*****
