Your baby's weight is adequate for the age & whatever foods you are giving is correct. Some children pass stools as soon as they are fed. It is called as exaggerated gastrocolic reflex. As long as the stools are well formed nothing to worry about it.

Hi, In young children with fever without apparent focus on physical examination and history is measurement of C‐reactive is useful to identify occult bacterial infection. Now a days it has become test of choice to start early antibiotics to combat infections in early stages.

Keep feeding her only breast milk. Check wether she has fever. Is she active and sucks the breasts.(hydration is important). Get in touch with your doctor and once he checks clinically, correct treatment plan can be thought of. Follow up after that.

I have a 10 month baby girl. She is suffering a fever. How can I handle this? Please advise.
Most fevers are viral and can be managed by you by giving paracetamol drops or suspension according to the weight. It would need to be repeated every 5 to 6 hours for 2 to 3 days. Wiping the most hot parts of the child with lukewarm water will help to get the fever down faster. If child is not improving or has other problems you need to contact a pediatrician.

Viral Fever in New Born Babies

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Viral Fever in New Born Babies

What is viral fever?

Viral fever refers to an acute infection caused by the action of viruses. Flu or influenza is the most common form of viral fever. Since viral fever is contagious, when an infected person sneezes or coughs the virus spreads and comes in contact with other people. Children can remain contagious for about 10 days if they get the early symptoms of viral fever. Children who are younger than two years are at an increased risk of developing complications pertaining to viral fever. Controlling the symptoms of cold, fever and cough can cure viral fever.

Symptoms of viral fever

Fever and chills are the early signs of viral fever. Children suffering from viral fever will feel pain throughout their body. Other common signs and symptoms involving viral fever include cough, cold, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, headache, diarrhea, and stomach ache.

Certain preventive measures against viral fever

  • Keeping your child away from anyone who is sick is advisable. To prevent the germs from spreading ask everyone to use tissues while they sneeze or cough. Make sure that your family member maintains good hygiene habits if he/she is suffering from diarrhea or is vomiting.
  • To prevent coming in contact with germs wash your and your child's hands properly
  • Seasonal changes are the thriving phase for viruses so take precautionary measures during those periods of the year

Tips for quicker recovery of your child

1. Offer enough drinks - A child gets dehydrated through fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. Oral Rehydration Salts can be given to little ones as it contains all the essential nutrients. This can be given to a baby even if he/she is just in breastfeeding stage.

2. Feed them special food - Soft and semi-liquid foods can be given to your child if he/she older than 6 months. Foods like dals, soups, and curd with sugar are advisable for your child. As he/she gradually gets stronger thicker foods like mashed vegetable can be added to his/her diet.

3. Ensure that your child gets adequate rest - Since viral fever is contagious it is advisable to let your child sleep in a separate room. Since the fever causes fatigue adequate rest is required for recovery. This will also prevent him/her from getting the other family members infected.

4. Sponge your child's body - Sponging your child's body with lukewarm water can control high fever.

5. Maintain proper hygiene - It is essential to wash your hands before and after touching your child to prevent the infection from spreading to the other family members.

Your child is perfectly normal. If child is having recurrent infection that means problem is in hygiene. Tell me wash hands with soap before taking food. Use filtered or boiled water. Bath regularly. Keep distennce from any one who is suffering from cough or cold.

Hello Doctor. My son is 16 months now. He is extremely hyperactive child, showing the following symptoms- 1) He doesn't like to play with toys. He just likes climbing on tables, chairs and window grills.  2) If we get him new toys, he will just see it for a few minutes and then throw it away.  3) He wants to be out of the house all time. He cry's to go with any unknown person when they are leaving the house.  4) If we keep him out, he will just start walking. He will not even care to see if we are there with him or not.  5) He is very impatient for something he likes. For example he is very restless while feeding him oranges. He will not allow you to peel it. He just wants it immediately and will hit you if you don't give him fast. 5) Although we keep talking to him, till now he doesn't utter any words, no actions like'bye' etc. He only yells aloud. 6) He just cannot sit in one place and needs someone constantly. If you don't play with him even for a few minutes, he will put his head on the floor and start moaning in frustration. 7) He has been a troublesome child right from birth. Hardly used to sleep for just a few minutes during the whole day and night. Now, although his sleeping pattern has improved during the nights. During the day he still sleeps less. Probably around 1 hour if at all he sleeps. 8) When he was smaller, around 9-12 months, he used to watch television advertisements with great attention. He would not blink his eyes even if you nudge him or pat him lightly on his head. This is the only thing that grabs his attention, even now. Doctor, is my child showing signs of any disorder or is it too early to predict? Does he need any treatment? please help. Thanks.

What was her birth weight. Not gaining weight for 3 month is not normal. Breastfeeding alone is not sufficient at this age. Solid food has to be offered. Also need to see if there is any other issue / factors. Better show a pediatrician.
