Keep your leg raised while sitting or lying Quadriceps strengthening exercises- Quad Clenches: Lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, Hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short Arcs: Lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day.

Apply prasarini oil or pranacharya restopain oil on your affected part then give hot fomentation twice a day. Take mahayograj guggul 1-1 tab twice a day. Take maharasnadi kwath 2-2 tsf twice a day. Avoid tea. Coffee. Junk food. Fermented food. Spicy food. Rice. Walk for atleast 30 minutes a day. Do pranayama early morning. Sleep for atleast 7 hrs per day.

Do the cat/cow avoid bending in front. Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Apply hot fomentation twice daily. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily. Bhujang asana. Core strengthening exercises. Back stretchingstretch.

Dear Lybrate user, Your pain most probably is coming from your cervical (neck) region. Try out hot or cold fomentation whichever one suits you. Avoid sitting for long time in one position and avoid travelling. Try over the counter pain medications. If the pain doesn't resolve then consult a good physiotherapist in your locality. Regards.

I have knee pain from osteoarthritis. Am I allowed to walk?

This is the question most elderly patients from all walks of life ask me, be it a learned advocate or the local farmer.

Guess the answer? it is a big yes!

Knee osteoarthritis is the wear and tear that happens in the knee joint. At times we fail to understand that our knees also age along with us! so they may not be in a situation to behave the save way they behaved 20 years back, when you used cycle or trot a few miles to your school or college or the way you were comfortable squatting or kneeling whether it is fit sanitary purposes or religious causes

The fact is the knees have to be tamed well and should not be battered the same way as it was a few decades back!

Now coming to our original discussion, yes, you are allowed to walk!

But how do you do it when you are already suffering from pain?

You could rest your knees for a few days - usually a week, if you have severe pain. Your doctor could help you with some low dose pain killer tablets and ointments. On top of it all, the single best way to reduce your knee pain is lifestyle modifications!

What's the lifestyle modification we are talking about?

1) no climbing up or down stairs!

2) no sitting on and getting up from the floor!

3) no kneeling! and

4) a big no to squatting in the toilet!

Doctor, you must be kidding! how am I supposed to live without these?

Restrict the number of times you climb stairs.

Use a chair/sofa to sit! at unavoidable situations, use a stable support to sit on the floor and then to get up! do not place too much stress on your knees when you get up from the floor!

Absolutely no kneeling! for religious prayers, use a shall flat stool to sit and offer your prayers, but do not kneel!

Use a western (raised) toilet commode for sanitation! if you can't afford to change your present indian ones, use a wooden/plastic raised seat with a central opening temporarily until you can arrange a permanent raised one!

Should I spend time walking or not?

Yes you should!

Walking helps to rebuild the joint!

Walking strengthens the thigh and leg muscles!

Walking helps you lose weight!

Walking keeps your body active and prevents lethargy!

Last but not the least!

Walking pacifies the mind and prevents psychological problems!

So what are you waiting for?
Get out your shoes and burn your calories!

dear friend, your thinking may be correct. for this take break between your studies. try to give rest and adjust your sitting position while reading. take any antioxidant cap one daily for 10 days tell your progress to guide further.

Patient needs to be examined in detail & be investigated. Anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck back knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. For emergency treatment contact your nearest hospital or family doctor. If it does not give relief in 4-5 days then inform me. You have to ask your friends for it. I have no idea about scooters.

Gentle Shoulder Stretching. Core Strengthening Exercises. Gentle Neck Exercises. Avoid sleeping on affected side. Warm up and cool down is a must. Contrast bath---It is a form of treatment shoulder is applied warm water followed by the immediate application of the shoulder with ice water. This procedure is repeated several times, alternating hot and cold. Note that the treatment should always end in the ice water, as heat will induce the body's inflammatory response, while cold helps to decrease inflammation.

During the reproductive age, women need adequate calcium for strong bones. Since the baby takes however much calcium it requires for growth from the mother, calcium consumption should be increased to prevent the loss of calcium from the mother's bones. Women with poor general nutrition, low intake of calcium- rich foods and a positive family history of osteoporosis are more prone to get vertebral fractures from weakened bones during pregnancy. Milk and milk products, dark green leafy vegetables, sardines and other oily fish are done of the better sources of calcium.

This is because your routine has changed and I assume your eating habits as well. Eat in small portions throughout the day instead of having your food once. Consume around 5 to 6 small meals rather than 2 complete meal. Drink lots of water and stay hydrated. Avoid oily, spicy, fried, salty food.

It is a chronic ( long lasting condition) and will take time to reduce if not gully healing Topical treatments are rubbed directly into the affected skin to bring local relief without the system-wide side effects of medicines taken by mouth. Topical treatments for psoriasis include: Salicylic acid . Some doctors recommend salicylic acid ointment, which smoothes the skin by promoting the shedding of psoriatic scales. Using salicylic acid over large areas of skin, however, may cause the body to absorb too much of the medication, leading to side effects. Salicylic acid may also cause skin irritation and weaken hair shafts, which can cause breakage and temporary hair loss. The effectiveness of these preparations are modest at best. Steroid-based creams. The mainstay of psoriasis treatment, steroid creams decrease inflammation, relieve itching, and block the production of cells that are overproduced in psoriasis. Stronger preparations, which are more effective than milder ones, can cause side effects that include burning, dryness, irritation, and thinning of the skin. Be especially careful to follow your doctor's instructions on their use. Calcipotriene -containing topical ointment. Calcipotriene, which is related to vitamin D, has proven to be effective for treating psoriasis, especially when combined with a topical corticosteroid cream. It's best to use only limited amounts to avoid side effects. Coal-tar ointments and shampoos. These products can help slow the rapid growth of skin cells and alleviate symptoms, but some people are vulnerable to the side effects, especially folliculitis, a pimple-like rash affecting the hair follicles. These medicines should be used only under a doctor's supervision. Prescription retinoids. These topical preparations containing a synthetic form of vitamin A can help improve psoriasis. These preparations don't work as quickly as steroids. Topical retinoids can sometimes cause dryness and irritation of the skin.

I have spondylitis on my lower back for 10 years, I do exercise, now suddenly I have developed heel pain on left leg, I apply ice pack, I have started wearing flat heel shoes. How to get rid of this problem?

Hi. Heel pain needs ultrasound therapy. Use silicon heel pad I m shoes for walking and standing. You may need to visit a physiotherapist for ultrasound therapy.
