Is it like if we are giving IPV then OPV is not necessary at the same time. At 6 week for new born.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Bangalore
Ipv is a superior vaccine and used all over the world. However government wants to give only opv from their side so they are promoting opv to build up immunity of the entire population. For the sake of your child ipv is enough.

I want medicine for bedwetting for my 9 year old son. Please help me.

DNB (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician,
Needs evaluation as to rule out primary or secondary enuresis. Don't just jump to medicine. Behavioural therapy plays the best role. Alarm therapy and diary maintenance are other alternatives.

Hi lybrate-user, you could give chocolates as a reward in case your daughter eats properly for a week. You could make colorful foods like a colorful fruit yoghurt, fruit custard, soups in winters or fruit shakes. Try making her diet as nutritious as possible by adding veggies and cereals. Do not force feed her. Give her small portions to finish and give frequent and small meals. You could start supplement powders to be added in milk like pediasure etc. Get her weight and height checked regularly on your pediatrician visit and maintain her growth record in order to understand her pattern of growth. Hope that helps.

It would be preferable to breast feed the baby as long as possible (first 6 months is important .) Many babies play with their hands and legs which is normal. Babies can sleep more than 14 to 16 hrs in a 24 hrs. They sleep, play and need feeding every 2 - 4 hrs (varies slightly in different children.)

My son is 15 months old He is suffering in Krabbe disease, is this disease is curable what we do Pls. Suggest me.
Dear parent Although there is no cure for Krabbe disease is known, bone marrow transplantation has been shown to benefit cases early in the course of the disease. Generally, treatment for the disorder is symptomatic and supportive. Physical therapy may help maintain or increase muscle tone and circulation. Cord blood transplants have been successful in stopping the disease as long as they are given before overt symptoms appear. All the best.

Tips for Parents and Carers

Tips for Parents and Carers

Healthy eating gives kids the energy they need for their busy days.

Here are some great ways to make it easier.

Breakfast is important: it can be up to 12 hrs since their last meal, so kids need to refuel for the day ahead. Give him healthy choices like cereal and reduced fat milk, toast, fresh fruit, eggs on toast, juice and reduced fat yoghurt.

Water works: get kids into the habit of drinking water to keep them hydrated throughout the day.

Snack smart: encourage your kids to take an interest in their health early in life by planning their own healthy snacks-this will help them look for a healthy diet when they get older.

Get cooking: food is not just about good nutrition; it's one of life's great pleasures. Transform your kids into young cooks-even young children can help peel carrots, pod peas, great cheese, put together tacos or design their own healthy pizza toping. If they've helped make it, they'll be more likely to enjoy eating it.

Slow and steady: encourage them to eat slowly. This prevents overeating and helps them recognize when they're full.

Eat at the table: eating snacks and meals sitting down at the table or kitchen bench instead of in front of the tv is good habit for the whole family.

Get a balance: variety and balance are the keep to helping a child enjoy a healthy diet. Aim to eat a variety of foods each day (this depends on the age of the child) including fruit, vegetables breads and cereals, lean meat or fish and reduced fat dairy products.

Tasty exploration: encourage kids to try different food. Exposure to lots of different tastes and flavours adds excitement to meals.

I have a baby boy he is 18 months old.my problem is that he dnt like milk at all. He is not drinking milk not even a cup in a day.plzz suggest me any idea to improve interest for milk

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Pediatric Gastroenterology
Pediatrician, Delhi
It is not absolutely necessary for a one and half year old to have milk as such. you can give milk as kheer, dahi, or in dalia etc. you could also use home made paneer. Use the whey water in dal, sabzis or preparing dough. Sometimes children go off a particular food. You can give a short break and try to reintroduce that food/milk after some time.

Respected Dr, we have 5 months' baby boy ,,,my wife has problem of low breastfeeding, she's providing powder prescribed as Child specialist, then shall we start boiled milk of cow...for his feeding?

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Pediatric Gastroenterology
Pediatrician, Delhi
Most parents believe that the breast milk is insuffiecient. Take weight of the child on a digital weighing machine prior to feeding and immediately after feed. This will convince you that child has got enough milk. . However if the milk is truly less, you can start undiluted, unsweetened boiled cow's milk with katori and spoon.
