Hi. I get red boils in my underarms which are painful. They go off automatically leaving scars behind. Please help me as it is very embarrassing.

Advanced Aesthetics
Ayurveda, Gulbarga
A boil is a kind of skin problem that happens when there is a deep bacterial infection in a hair follicle. A boil starts as a small, red, painful nodule and gradually increases in size. Boils can be very painful and sometimes may be accompanied by fever black seed is one of the most popular natural cures for various types of skin infections including boils. The medicinal properties of black seed can give some relief from the pain caused by boils. Take some black seeds (kalonji). Grind them to get a paste. Apply this paste on the affected area. You can also apply black seed oil on the boil. Add one-half teaspoon of black seed oil to a cup of hot or cold drink. Drink the mixture twice a day for several days. Any querries inform me.

Dear lybrate user, pimples/ acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which develops due to blocking of the hair follicles in skin. These blockages occur due to 4 abnormal processes: 1) excess sebum production due to androgens 2) excessive deposition of the protein keratin leading to comedone formation 3) infection of propionibacterium acnes (p. Acnes) bacteria on the hair follicles 4) local release of pro-inflammatory chemicals in the skin. Neither can you stop the overproduction of androgen or keratin protein nor can you stop the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals because all these processes takes place internally in your skin. However you can stop the accumulation of p. Acnes bacteria on your skin by preventing your skin from getting oily. Always keep a handkerchief with you wherever you go outside. You should wipe off the slightest amount of sweat from your face as soon as you perspire on entering your room from outside wash your face with an oil-free, non-moisturizing face wash. Take a low carbohydrate diet. Do some exercise daily. Drink a lots of water to avoid constipation. Avoid pricking the pimples or popping the sebum as it may lead to black pigmentation & permanent scar formation. You can also take homoeopathic calcarea phos 200, 5 drops, thrice daily, in empty stomach also you can apply homoeopathic mother tincture berberis aquifolium q on the dark spots on your skin which are produced after the resolution of the pimples.

Acne occurs mainly due to the action of hormones on the oil glands in the skin. The draining ducts of the oil glands get blocked and hence they are not able to drain the oil secretion. The oil and cells inside the blocked gland form a perfect environment for the growth of propionibacterium acnes (the organism responsible for acne). Thus, it results in the formation of pimples or acne. Drink water 10 glass / day wash your face 3 times / day avoid oily food eat one orange daily do not squeeze pimples, because that often leads to infections, worse acne and scars. Wash your hair often if your hair is oily. Try to keep your hair off of your face. Avoid hair care products such as gels, mousses, cream rinses, and pomades that contain a lot of oil. Use berberis aquifolium gel 2 times/ day for 8 days. Avoid touching your face. Protect your skin from too much sun exposure. Follow up after 8 days.

Aloe vera contains enzymes that directly promote healthy hair growth. Also, its alkalizing properties can help bring the scalp and hair?s pH to a more desirable level, which can greatly promote hair growth. Regular use can also relieve scalp itching, reduce scalp redness and inflammation, add strength and luster to hair, and alleviate dandruff. Both aloe vera gel and juice will work. 1. Apply aloe vera gel or juice onto the scalp. 2. Leave it on for a few hours and then wash it off with lukewarm water. 3. Repeat the process three to four times a week. You can also consume one tablespoon of aloe vera juice daily on an empty stomach to enjoy better hair growth.

Tips To Treat Acne in Pregnancy!

Tips To Treat Acne in Pregnancy!

Many women experience acne during pregnancy. It is most common during the first and second trimester. During pregnancy our body produces an increased amount of hormones called androgens which can cause the glands to grow and produce more oil. This oil leads to bacteria, inflammation, and breakouts. This is natural, and nothing to worry about from a health perspective. There is often no way to prevent acne during pregnancy as it is not possible to control the hormonal changes that lead to the problem. However, you can take following precautions to check its outbreak:

  1. Use a mild, soap-free face wash or cleanser to clean your face daily. You should cleanse your face not more than twice a day.
  2. Pat your skin dry after each wash as rubbing with towels or washcloths can irritate the facial skin, leading to the problem.
  3. Use oil-free moisturizers, face wash and makeup.
  4. Use an oil-free sunscreen lotion whenever going out during daytime.
  5. Wear full-sleeve clothes to avoid exposing your skin to direct sunlight.
  6. Wash your hair regularly especially if you have oily hair.
  7. Maintain proper hygiene. Wash and clean your towels, pillowcases and hats regularly.
  8. Drinking lots of water to flush to keep the skin hydrated.
  9. Have a balanced diet containing plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables which are rich in vitamins A, E and B complex and fibre.
  10. Avoid oily, greasy foods and fast foods.
  11. Have adequate sleep and practice some relaxation techniques to avoid fatigue and stress.
  12. Stop touching your face that often as bacteria from your fingers can pass on to your face.
  13. Buy makeup products after utmost diligence.
  14. You should also take zinc supplements to prevent acne.

If you still get acne despite following the above mentioned tips, then you should take appropriate medicine as prescribed by the dermatologist. Medicines like Clindamycin e.g. Cleocin T, Clindagel, Azelaic acid (Finacea, Azelex) and Erythromycin are considered safe during pregnancy. You can also apply the medicine only as recommended as most products are intended for daily or twice-daily use only. Also try some home remedies like apply a mixture of honey and ground oatmeal to your face and rinsing off gently. Massage gently with a plain carrier oil such as argan oil or olive oil. You can also consider applying aloe vera gel to cure acne. These treatments will not be as effective as taking medicines though.

However, avoid hormone therapy including anti-androgens like spironolactone, flutamide and estrogen as these can lead to major developmental changes to the foetus. Oral tetracycyclines and topical retinoids should also be avoided. Accutane also leads to increased risk of miscarriage, hence do not even consider it. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

Aloe vera juice is very effective to stop hair loss. Pure aloe gel can be applied directly to the scalp. This is helpful for preventing hair loss due to irritated, dry or infected scalp. Aloe vera balances the ph level of scalp. After massaging the head with aloe gel, wait for few hours and then wash the hair with lukewarm water. You should do this twice a week for best results.

Hello Lybrate user, there are various causes of acne like hormonal imbalance, exposure to dust, pollution,  hereditary, lack of enough sleep, stress, unhealthy food habits etc.; dust clogs the tiny openings of sweat gland or oil gland which ultimately results into acne and blackheads. Always wash your face with gentle facewash after exposure to dust, pollution. Drink plenty of water, 7-8 glass per day to remove toxins from body and maintain hydration. Have healthy diet, add more fruits and green veggies in diet. Avoid stress, avoid alcohol, junk food. Take homeopathic treatment for acne. It is safe, natural, and holistic way of treatment. Homeopathic medicine is selected on the basis of thorough details of patient, like medical history, causes, routine, temperament etc.; such well selected medicine gives complete relief and cure, without any side effects.
