My eyesight is normal but I always feel itching and uncomfort in my eyes. I even couldn't fully open my eyes and If I do then tears comes out of it.

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Pune
commonly due to allergy,,,allergy can be treated easily using eye drops. But there are many eye drops and specific eye drops can only be prescribed after seeing the eye clinically as treatment depends on severity. also dip a handkerchief in little cold water and keep over closed eyes.. you will feel better

I am 22 years girl. I have been suffering from recurring stye since past 3 years. I have tries homeopathic medicines also alopathic medicines but it comes back every time. Doctors give temporary eye creams likes zoxan and ciplox drops also say to do hot compressions. I need a permanent solution for this as it is creating alot of trouble in my personal and career life as I am a cabin crew.

DNB Ophtalmology, MS - Ophthalmology, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Best way to avoid stye is to maintain good eye and hand hygiene. Ensure you use good cosmetic makeup brands. Replace the eye make up at regular intervals. Recommends every 3-6 months. As germs grow in these over a period of time. Also make sure to clean makeup and eyes at least once daily. Especially before bedtime. You could clean the lid margins externally with 2 or 5 % betadiene lotion thereafter using correct technique. Don't touch your eyes ensure you don't have untreated refractive errors, allergies etc.

MBBS, DNB (OPHTHALMOLOGY)
Ophthalmologist, Pune
Hello. Rp is a genetic disorder. It is a progressive disease. Progression cannot be stopped. Slowly the central vision may also get affected. Only what you can do is regular follow up and low vision aids that he is already using! continue the treatment. Just get your kids also checked. Since disease is genetic.

Lens Vs Specs

DOMS, MBBS
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Lens Vs Specs

Eyeglasses and contact lenses are both used for vision correction. Both of the options have their advantages and disadvantages but a number of factors like lifestyle, comfort and age etc. are important while deciding which one to choose.

Here is a list of the fundamental differences between using spectacles and using contact lenses:

  1. Distance from the cornea: Lenses are worn directly on the eye and are in constant physical contact with the cornea while glasses are worn over the eyes. Contact lenses may cause infections in the eye because the user has to touch the eye in order to wear them and to take them off.
  2. Difference in vision: Since the lenses of spectacles are a little distance away from the eye, vision can be slightly distorted but contact lenses can provide natural and accurate vision. Also, side vision is not improved by glasses as you have to turn your head to see what is beside you. The contacts move around with your eyeballs and the peripheral vision is in focus.
  3. Ease of use: Some people find eyeglasses difficult to use because of the constant weight on the face and the obstruction caused by the frames of the glasses. There may also be a constant need to adjust the frames. Often eyeglasses slip down the nose when you sweat or engage in rigorous physical activity. Contact lenses are free from all these hassles - they are not distracting or obstructive and so they are extensively used by dancers and athletes. Spectacles is very uncomfortable to wear during the rains or in humid weather because they fog up.
  4. Infections and complications: Contact lenses can get displaced inside the eye and they can be difficult to reposition. They also cause the eyes to itch and water if you wear them for a very long time at a stretch or if tiny dust particles enter your eyes. The use of eyeglasses is far more flexible in this respect - they can be removed in case your eye itches or burns, but regular use of glasses causes dark circles and bags under the eyes.
  5. Aesthetic differences: People often prefer contact lenses as they do not change the physical appearance - they help you look natural and you can also use colored lenses to change the color of your eyes. Glasses may look slightly unnatural but some people also prefer them for the fashion quotient.

I am addicted to mobile phone and my eyes are feeling sick please suggest me how to control usage of mobile.

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Hi. I have a few suggestions for you regarding the usage of mobile phones and computers. Follow the rule of" 20" this means that every 20 minutes, take a gap of 20 seconds, blink your eyes actively 20 times and focus at an object which is minimum 20 feet away. This will help in relieving your eyes from the continuous strain that is caused due to staring. Staring at the mobile/ computer continuously causes us to subconsciously blink less than normal. This causes the tear film on the surface of the eye to dry up. The result of this is pain, discomfort, etc. Another suggestions regarding the usage of mobiles/ computers is to maintain a proper posture. The mobile/ computer must be positioned at the same height as your eye level. The neck should not be inadvertently flexed or extended. Roughly, an angle of 90 degrees should be maintained between your upper body and thighs. Likewise, a similar angle (90 degrees) should be maintained between your lower legs and thighs. Also the angle between your hands and arms should be roughly 90 degrees. This is the healthy ergonomic way of sitting while using a computer. Maintenance of proper posture would help in further relieving the symptoms of eye discomfort and pain. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care.

How to improve my eyesight since I am not able to study for more than 2 hours continuously. Doing so I feel as I am not able to see clearly. What should I do?

MD - Alternate Medicine, BHMS
Homeopath, Surat
Just do this small exercise: Sleep with legs raised up from waist against the wall straight up, making 90 degree angle for 5 mins. Its better you do in early morning, else you can do it anytime. This will make your blood flow increased towards brain and other vital organs and increase your memory and physical strength too. All the best. For any more queries you are most welcomed. :)

Pain in eye when working in computer. Eye like a red colour when wake up. Please give suggestions.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
The solution for this problem is its reduced usage and while using computor use in proper light. There is nothing more effective than controlling usage to reduce and negate the effects. You can also reduce the intensity of the computor screen by attaching a filter or by getting an eye-friendly screen. Above all, one must try to reduce the amount of computor usage or take frequent breaks. Homoeopathic medicine CINELUBE EYE DROPS ( HAPDCO) Pour 2 drops 3 times daily.

Dear sir, I am 30 year old boy with normal vision , but having squint in my right eye since I was 3 years of age. Is there any possibility of correcting my squint through laser. Regards.

Phaco Development Program, Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology, DNB Ophtalmology, MBBS

No squint cannot be corrected by laser. You will have to undergo surgery on extraocular muscles (muscles around the eye which are responsible for eye movements) to align your eyes correctly.

FICO, Specialist in Cataract,Cornea and refractive surgeries , MD - Ophthalmology

If your number is stable for 1 year, you can undergo lasik or icl depending on your corneal thickness. If you have normal corneal thickness you should undergo lasik. If your cornea is thin you can undergo icl. Both the procedures are relatively safe.
