Sinusitis - Conditions That Lead to It!

Sinuses are cavities in our skull behind the nose which spread out in a pattern. These cavities are lined with tissues and mucosal membranes and are essential for our breathing process. Sinusitis is a condition where the tissues within the cavities become inflamed which results in the sinus cavities being blocked due to a buildup of fluid.

What are the conditions that can lead to sinusitis?
Some of the conditions that can cause nasal polyps are explained as follows:

  1. Nasal polyps are small growths of tissue within the lining of the nose which may block the sinuses, resulting in sinusitis.
  2. Common cold is also a culprit which may result in sinusitis
  3. If your septum or the bridge between the holes of the nose is deviated (this condition is referred to as a deviated septum), you may be prone to developing sinusitis.
  4. The lining of the nose may swell in a condition known as allergic rhinitis and cause sinusitis as well.

Types of sinusitis
There are multiple types of sinusitis which may affect people and also on how long they last. The various types of sinusitis are explained below:

  1. Acute sinusitis: This is the most common form of sinusitis that lasts usually between 2 to 4 weeks. It starts with a cold, blocked nose and turns into facial pain that usually starts very suddenly.
  2. Chronic sinusitis: This is a form of sinus infection which can have a debilitating effect on your life and may last for 12 weeks or longer.
  3. Sub-acute sinusitis: This is somewhere between acute and chronic sinusitis and may last from anywhere between 4 to 12 weeks.
  4. Recurrent sinusitis: This form of sinus infections tend to be a variation of acute or sub-acute sinusitis which tends to occur multiple times a year.

Symptoms of sinusitis
The manifestation of the symptoms of sinusitis may be different from person to person and also on the type of sinusitis you are suffering from. However, there are some generic symptoms that are common to all forms which are mentioned as follows:

  1. Smelling senses may be dulled
  2. Facial pain
  3. Congestion accompanied by a cough
  4. Nose may be blocked, stuffy and may also be runny
  5. Other symptoms may also include bad breath, fatigue, or even dental pain
  6. Nasal cavity may have pus and it may drain from time to time

It is best to consult a doctor quickly, if you have been having any of these symptoms. The doctor can prescribe nasal decongestants and antibiotics which can help. If you have chronic or recurrent sinusitis, then more aggressive and advanced treatments may be required.

Hi onion is very good vegetable to treat sexual impotence. It increases libido and strengthens reproducing organs. White onions are best for this purpose. Take about 5-10 gm root powder of Ladyfinger in a glass of milk. Add 2 tsp of mishri in this milk and drink it. This will prove helpful in improving sexual vigour. Apply pranacharya gopal oil on your penis and give a massage. It will strengthen your nerves and erection power will get better. You can take ayurvedic medicines too along with this.

Currently my treatment is going for dis sleeping problem conducted an homeopathy docs. But still it's not effective. Please help.

Diploma in Anesthesia, MBBS
General Physician, Hyderabad
Reason for not able to fall sleep though you are tired will be due to some anxiety or some disturbing thoughts which are causing this problem. so the best remedy will be leaving all the thoughts and having some peace of mind. to achieve that you should practice Meditation. you have to learn the technique from some yoga teache. divert your mind to more peaceful and agreable things. develop a philosophical attitude. next is you need to have physical activity like morning walk or a session of yoga. doing household work doesnot come under this activity, so necessarily you have to go morning walk and walk a distance of minimum 6 kms every day. evening practice Pranayama which gives some mental stability. along with that learn the technique of Bhraamari which will induce restful sleep. Do not try to depend on medicines, as the sleep given by will not have the quantity and quality of the natural sleep. Next is do not watch tv and do not look at the mobile atleast two hours before going to bed. use the bedroom/bed only for sleep. donot lie down on the bed during day, do not watch tv etc., lying in the bed. make the bed room completely dark and silent. its easily said than done because i do not know your family environment, so for some reason if you are not able to make the room dark, cover your eyes with a cloth or use eye blinds available in the market. after lying down you can continuously do the japa of your favourite God. before going to bed take a glass of warm milk, which will help you in getting good sleep. try these things you will definetely get good sleep over a period of time. Good luck

I want to increase my stamina during sexual intercourse atleast for once. Is there any medicine by which I can do sex for a longer period of time. My wife want to have penetration for a long period of time.

DGO, MBBS
Sexologist,
Premature ejaculation is very common and is usually not associated with any disease but may be due to anxiety. However it is sometimes associated with infection of male accessory glands, which is treatable. You can learn to control pe by doing this exercise- pull your muscles that you pull at the end of urination for few seconds then release repeat this several times daily. Another is stop-start technique: when you feel that you are going to ejaculate stop the sexual stimulation and divert your mind, the penis will relax, after sometime start the stimulation again and repeat the procedure. Over few months you will gradually increase your ejaculation time. Also there are medicines which can help.

Sahab mere gale main pata nahi kyu cough sa jama rahata hai or khasi aati rahti hai iska kya karan hai sahab.

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
There are several things you can do to prevent a cold—they are all easy and inexpensive and worth the effort. Wash your hands often-with soap and warm water. The germs stick to the soap and get washed down the drain. Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into your hands, blowing your nose, after touching someone who is sick, or when using public restrooms or telephones. Cover Your Mouth and Nose When You Sneeze or Cough- Clean your hands every time you cough or sneeze. Avoid Touching Your Eyes, Nose, or Mouth-Germs are often spread when a person touches a contaminated surface and then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth. Stay Home When You’re Sick-Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, don’t smoke, manage stress, drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food so you can fend off viruses. Take healthy balanced diet...like boiled eggs.daily in breakfast .. Avoid people who have a cold or cold symptoms. Routinely clean and disinfect common areas of your home. Treatment:There is a gradual 1-3 day onset of symptoms. It often starts out as a sore throat, then a fever and coughing. As the cold progresses, the nasal mucus may thicken which is the last stage before the cold dries up. A cold usually lasts for a week or two. But, taking good care of yourself at home can relieve symptoms and help prevent complications if you are otherwise healthy. Unless you develop complications, you shouldn’t need medical treatment. Complications include bacterial infections of the ears, throat, sinuses or lungs which must be treated with antibiotics. In general you should: • get plenty of rest so your body can use its energy to fight the cold • staying at home will keep you from spreading germs • drink plenty of liquids like herbal tea or hot broth/vegetable/tomato soups. Avoid foods or drinks with caffeine which can keep you from getting enough sleep Runny Nose and Sneezing- if you have post nasal drip, gargle to keep from getting a sore throat. Drink extra fluids. (avoid sugary and high calorie drinks) Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation • Tablet Nasorest-P once/twice daily may reduce the amount of mucous. • Humidify the rooms you are in most or your whole house if possible. • Do steam inhalation once or twice daily Cough-Coughing is how your body gets rid of debris and mucus from the airways during a viral infection. Unless your cough is severe or is keeping you from resting at night, it is better not to treat it. A severe cough can be treated with a cough syp, but don’t try to completely stop the cough. There are two types of coughs. Productive and non-productive or dry cough. Non-productive, dry cough. A dry, hacking cough may develop near the end of a cold. Dry coughs that follow viral colds are often worse at night and can last up to several weeks. Take syrup Alex-D for a dry cough. Cough drops can sooth an irritated throat, but most don’t affect the cough. Productive cough. A productive cough is one that brings up mucus from the back of the throat or the lungs. Productive coughs should not be suppressed to the point they no longer bring up mucus. Use syrup Alex. Drink lots of water if you have a productive cough. Head and Body Aches- Take tablet dolo-650 mg for fever once or twice daily
