Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. Thanks & regards

Dear lybrate-user, if mri is showing ligament injury, it needs to be taken care off. If a complete tear is present it my need reconstruction. If it is partial and based on patients work demand and expectations even sometimes physiotherapy treatment can be done. I think patient should consult an arthroscopy specialist to have relief.

Right elbow fractured. Screw implemented 3 screw. One taken out. Two are still in. Extension and flexion not 100%. Its approx 20% less. Done 4 month regular physiotherapy and proposed exercise. Need solution. Want 100% movement. please suggest)

MBBS, MS Ortho, DNB (Orthopedics), Dip SICOT (Belgium), FISOC (USA), MNAMS (Ortho), FASM (Singapore)
Orthopedist, Chennai
Dear lybrate-user, elbow stiffness is a common problem following elbow surgeries. Sometimes the implant could be blocking movements. However most of the times stiffness is due to scar tissue formation in and around the joint, or sometimes due to excessive new bone formation (myositis ossificans). After permission from your primary surgeon, get a consultation from a sports or arthroscopy surgeon. Sports surgeons would be able to assess if the movements can be improved non-surgically or through key-hole surgery/ arthroscopy. Subsequently with continuation of exercises you would be able to maintain near complete movements in your elbow. Hope that helps. Let me know if I could be of further help.

I have lumbar problem may be sciatica please suggest some exercise for this which can help me.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Regardless of the diagnosis, most types of sciatica will benefit from a regular routine of hamstring stretching. The hamstrings are muscles located in the back of the thigh. Overly tight hamstrings increase the stress on the low back and often aggravate or even cause some of the conditions that result in sciatica.

I've been having this pain in my left upper back for a while. It feels sore and painful whenever I turn or lie down. I feel pain in my upper left chest when I press on one rib there or when I bend. The pain forces me to cough. I did an ECG and a blood test for a clot and a chest xray and all results were normal. I'd like to know what might be the causes for that pain.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Your persistent back pain could be due to you driving a 2 wheeler since a long time. Can you tell me whether your leg pain you feel is radiating from your lower back region or is it an independent entity? also do you feel any numbness, weakness, paresthesias in legs as well? have you got some investigations like x rays of your back and blood tests like vitamin d tests for leg pain etc? do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Hello doctor i have ankylosing spondylities from more then 10 years. My age is 29. Mene pehle kaafi allopathy treatment liye the per muje unke side effect ho jate the isliye me ab 2 saal se Ayurveda treatment le reha hu isse muje thoda benefit to hai or koi side effect bhi nahi hota. To mera question ye hai ki ayurvedic treatment AS ke liye thik hai ya nahi

MPTh/MPT

First rule out the stiffness of the hip and spine. Spinal mobilization exercise, gym ball exercise, swimming are quite helpful. Stretching of hip and knee muscles are also helpful for this ind of problem. If you have a static cycle you can try that also. Dont go for much strengthening exercise.
