Are wheat breads good for health? Eating wheat breads are good or bad? What is the reason behind constipation?
Wheat bread is better than maida bread, but some bread are shown brown to like wheat bread. Less intake of water is also the cause. Consume 3-4 litre of water daily. Thanks.

When Should You Go For Tonsillectomy?

MBBS, MS - ENT
ENT Specialist, Delhi
When Should You Go For Tonsillectomy?

The tonsils are soft tissue masses which are located at the back of your throat, usually at the pharynx. The tonsils are masses which are part of the lymphatic system that helps fight infections. However, tonsils can themselves become inflamed and cause a lot of pain. Tonsillectomy is a procedure to remove the tonsils and relieve pain.

Why is tonsillectomy performed?
A few decades back, tonsillectomy was a routine surgery performed to relieve any pain within the tonsils. This method of treatment however has changed over the past few decades as pain medications for inflammation have improved vastly. However, tonsillitis is still performed in many cases wherein it tends to cause acute problems. Some of the cases it is applicable in are:

  1. Chronic bad breath problems caused by recurrent inflammation of the tonsils
  2. Recurrent sore throats caused by tonsillitis
  3. It is also done along with dental surgery for correcting teeth with imperfect positioning
  4. Abscess formation in the mouth
  5. Upper airway being obstructed due to inflammation, thus causing difficulty with sleeping, snoring, or causing sleep apnea (irregular breathing during sleep)
  6. Ear infections being regularly caused by inflammation of the tonsils

Other reasons why it may be recommended

Tonsillectomy may be also be recommended when there are no indications of problems but tonsillitis and other infections keep cropping up too regularly. This affects children and can make them sick or keep them in pain regularly. Some of these other indications are mentioned below:

  1. Tonsil infections and inflammations happening too frequently within a year
  2. Tonsillitis is caused by bacterial infection wherein the antibiotics aren’t effective
  3. Formation of pus in the form of an abscess within or around the tonsils which keep forming even after repeated drainage or administering antibiotics

Possible complications and risks
Like any other form of surgery, tonsillectomy has certain risks associated with it as well. However, these are very rare. Some of these risks and complications are mentioned as follows –

  1. Swelling of the mouth: The tongue and the soft palate or the roof of the mouth may swell, resulting in breathing difficulties an few hours after the surgery.
  2. Infection: As is the case with any surgery, infections may occur in rare cases, which may require further treatment.
  3. Adverse reactions to anesthetics: Many patients exhibit an adverse reaction to anesthetics and may develop symptoms such as a headache, nausea, muscle soreness and frequent vomiting.
  4. Bleeding during surgery or healing: Although it is rare, bleeding during and after surgery has been reported after all sorts of procedures and it may occur with tonsillectomy as well.

If not used, it should have been closed by this time. If it is a major cosmetic problem, only alternative is to consult a plastic surgeon.

Recently, I've been getting headaches due to sneezing. It has happened on a couple of occasions that my head has started to ache after a big sneeze. The pain is sharp initially and subsides in sometime. Sometimes, there is sharp pain initially and then less, but constant pain later on (usually on the right side of the head). The pain goes away if I sleep or take paracetamol. Is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks.

A headache can be a sign of stress or emotional distress, or it can result from a medical disorder, such as migraine or high blood pressure, anxiety, or depression or tension headache, allergic rhinitis or due to respiratory problems. People with chronic migraine headaches, for example, may find it hard to attend work. Headache may result from a deficiency of a particular nutrient or nutrients, especially magnesium and certain B vitamins. Nutrient deficiencies can be due to a poor quality diet, underlying malabsorption issues, or other medical conditions. Take Homeopathic medicine Natrum mur 30, 4 pills twice a day and report thereafter for further treatment. Treatment- A number of steps can be taken to reduce the risk of headaches and to ease the pain if they do occur: 1. Apply a heat pack or ice pack to your head or neck, but avoid extreme temperatures. 2. Avoid stressors, where possible, and develop healthy coping strategies for unavoidable stress. 3. Eat regular meals frequently, taking care to maintain stable blood sugar. Don't be empty stomach 4. Exercising regularly and getting enough rest and regular sleep contributes to overall health and stress reduction 5. Use oil for head massage if above things doesn't help then you need to consult a good homeopathic doctor so that proper investigations and case taking is to be done and better treatment will be started as soon as possible. sir if after after your sugar remains 280mg% its not a good sign.this much high sugar is doing a lot of harm to you.moreover u r thinking of stopping insulin and in absence of insulin your sugar will become very high.target sugar is fasting below 126. by any means sugar has to be reduced. insulin is the best. you will have to achieve the target by increasing the dose of insulin.you are also suffering from ischaemic heart disease.its high time you should take your disease seriously. one new med has come with name of BGR-34. its herbal .try it twicw a day along with all other meds. and please consult a good physician who will titrate the dose of insulin and will help you to achieve your targets. good luck
