Sexual Life After Having a Baby

Dr. Sharmila majumdar, sexologist

Since she gave birth, my wife has had no sex drive whatsoever. Despite many arguments between us, nothing has been resolved. So we can go on for months at a time with no sex! I have tried everything I can think of. Whenever I talk about the subject she ignores me. Eventually when I get some answers she says she is tired or too busy looking after our son or working on the house duties. I'm finding myself getting very stressed over the matter and feel my anger rising about the whole situation, please help.

Answer: wife sounds worn out and depressed to me and I think she ought to see a lady doctor about this. I do hope you can encourage her to get help as she obviously feels pretty awful. I realise this is awful for you too, but do try and be patient. You have made a child together and i'm sure you want to hang on in there, if at all possible, and bring up this little boy between you. What may help a little is if you difficult though it is back off a bit regarding sex and simply try to re-engage with her romantically. Can you organise someone to babysitter and take her out for a meal at least once a week? you are a short fuse and she is depressed. The result is a kind of stalemate.

From her point of view she may well feel that you are too grumpy and she can’t see why on earth she would want to have sex with you because the atmosphere is no longer very loving. You on the other hand probably feel that you would act in a more loving way if you were getting more sex. But you could start right away by trying to somehow recapture how things were before the baby was born. It's not very hard to recreate that magic before your baby was born, simple physical hugs) holding hands complementing her, sending her appreciative text messages, sending her some flowers to show how much you appreciate hear role as-mother. Get out for a weekend without your child and indulge in a lot of slow fore playing, engage in conversations with her, as women are more emotional and want that connect. Sending her flirtatious messages saying how much more you desire her. Try to get out on some weekend where you can tell your in laws or your parents to look after your son while you express your emotional and physical bond. Reassure her that you love her and also, want a bit of her attention to strengthen your bond as partners and parents.

With the above pointers certainly there is bound to be some improvement and the channel of communication will be more warm and fluid. If you encounter further issues you can always seek help of a sexologist.

You should get your ultrasonography done. Also check for your thyroid profile. If nothing abnormal, you can take a course of contraceptive pills daily one starting from 5th day of menses for 21 days for 3 months. That may regularise your cycle. Even if it doesn't, you can have hormonal essay done.

Nutrition For Expectant Mothers

MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Jaipur
Nutrition For Expectant Mothers

A. Nutrition deserves special attention during pregnancy because of increased demand and specific role of different nutrients for the baby during pregnancy.
B. A woman whose diet is adequate before pregnancy is usually able to come out with full term pregnancy
Without elaborate modifications of her diet and lifestyle. For example, in diabetes, incidence of structural defects can be reduced to nil by bringing the blood glucose level under good control couple of months before conceiving.
C. Maternal nutrition taken during pregnancy are very important in supporting breastfeeding. Breast milk is best and complete food for baby during first four months as it also provides antibodies for protection against many infections.
D. Undernourished mothers are prone to delivery before nine months.
So, take good care of your health during pregnancy.

Swetaji, looking at your weight and height your bmi is only 20.99 kg/m2, which is good. There is no need to worry about the weight. As regards tsh levels during pregnancy and even to conceive, recommended levels are about 2 milli units to 2.4 milli units. So before deciding about conception, tsh has to be brought down. Present level will not allow conception.

What Causes Infertility in Men?

What Causes Infertility in Men?

Both women and men suffer from infertility troubles. There are a host of causes that may lead to infertility in men such as lifestyle choices and obesity. Male infertility is characterized by irregular sperm function or reduced sperm count. Infertility has emerged as a common problem as a result of the modern day lifestyle. Extremely hectic schedules, stress, burnout, depression, unhealthy diets; all of these can contribute to fertility issues.

The various reasons for infertility in men are:

  1. If you are overweight, then it is time to lose those extra kilos. Obesity leads to a number of health problems, one of them being erectile dysfunction.
  2. Various hormonal problems such as complications of the hypothalamus, pituitary and adrenal glands may lead to low testosterone levels in the body.
  3. Various infections such as inflammation of the testicles and epididymis that causes blockage of the tubes carrying the sperm can be a cause.
  4. Various medications such as using anabolic steroids, antifungal medications and chemotherapy may hamper production of the sperm and thus hit fertility.
  5. Both alcohol and cigarettes may cause problems in sperm production, and cause erectile dysfunction. Excessive drinking may lead to complications in the liver resulting in infertility.

The reasons of infertility may range from medical causes to lifestyle choices; some of the causes may be related to the environment. A common cause of infertility is due to problems with transportation of the sperm. These are mainly due to blockages in the tubes that carry the sperm.

Symptoms of infertility in men are:

  1. You may experience low libido
  2. Your sperm count may be low
  3. You may experience lumps or swellings in the testicles
  4. Chromosomal complications such as reduced body hair
  5. You may have chronic respiratory problems

Hello. I am a 21 year old female. The area below the nipple of my right breast is tender and sore to touch. And there is a lump in. My right underarm. It is also tender and sore to. Touch. Plus it's size is increasing. Should I consult a gynecologist or a surgeon?

There could be some hormonal imbalance which may be causing pain and tenderness. You can see a gynecologist if you are comfortable and they can evaluate and if need be then they can do an ultrasound breast.

I am in 18th month of pregnancy.. From when will I start feeling movements of my baby.

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
I am in 18th month of pregnancy.. From when will I start feeling movements of my baby.
Count your baby's movements once a day, at the same time each day: Lie on your left side and focus on your baby's movements: rolls, kicks or flutters. Use the chart below to record the number of minutes it takes to feel your baby move ten (10) times. You may stop counting after your baby has moved ten (10) times. 16 weeks to 19 weeks You’ll probably notice faint and fluttery feelings in your tummy at around 18 weeks. If this is your first pregnancy, it may take a bit longer before you realise that those gentle bubbling sensations are actually your baby moving about! If you’ve been pregnant before, you may notice your baby’s movements even earlier, at around 16 weeks. 20 weeks to 23 weeks You may notice gentle kicks, or repetitive jerking movements when your baby gets hiccups. As the weeks go by, your baby's activity will gradually increase and become stronger. You may find that your baby becomes more lively as the day goes on, kicking, squirming and somersaulting the most in the evening when you're relaxed. Another top time for movements is just before or at mealtimes. Over time, you'll come to recognise your baby's unique pattern of activity. 24 weeks to 28 weeks The amniotic sac now contains up to 750 ml (26fl oz) of fluid. This gives your baby plenty of space to move around freely, so you may notice frequent movements and feel that your baby is very active. Limb movements may feel punchy, while whole-body movements may be smoother. You may even notice him jumping at sudden noises!

As u r already bleeding there is no chance of pregnancy. All the symptoms which u r getting are because of hormonal excess, which will get corrected soon without any treatment. Just hold hold on for some more time. Brown color is ur menses. Menses can come irregular for a month or so after plan-B.

If you had sex then there is chance of pregnancy, you should do urine pregnancy test, If pregnancy test is negative and you don't get period then to detect the cause you need to do some blood tests and ultrasound of pelvis.

I am 41 years old, and was diagnosed with adenomyosis 1.5 years ago. Have been taking 1-3 meftal forte everyday for. 1.5 years. Now have back pain and blood in urine how much time does it. Take for the problem to resolve after. Stopping meftal forte.

DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy
Gynaecologist, Kolkata
I would suggest you get a repeat USG of your pelvis done to check the status of adenomyosis as well as a urine RE. Meftal is a pain killer . hence should not be taken for such long periods. If you are having problems with painful periods you need to consider hormonal tablets or a mirena coil to see if these help
