Hi, seems ur back pain is mostly mechanical one if u dont have radiating leg pain. Avoid long standing and do core stregthening exercises . If not relived , then u need to be evaluated clinically and radilogicaly . Tq

I have leg and joint pain from many years. Tried lot of medicines but not at all working. Could you suggest a solution for this.

Kindly show me a photograph & digital x rays of affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days. Bio d3 max 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Do reply back for detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Don’t stay in one position for too long.
Make some ergonomic adjustments. Position your computer monitor at eye level so you can see it easily. Use the hands-free function on your phone or wear a headset. Prop your touch-screen tablet on a pillow so that it sits at a 45° angle, instead of lying flat on your lap.
If you wear glasses, keep your prescription up to date.
Don’t use too many pillows.
Know your limits.
Get a good night’s sleep.

Dear sir first time I chekup my hall body on 15 03 2015 in my life so detect blood sugar 504 after fasting before 367 and one day after that result 267 and 248 and after diet control exercise and many more precaution 114 diabities came but still my lag pen continuous I saw last 31 march 2015 orthopedic he tell me after saw a xray you have n9 complaint it s just masculer pain what we do every day my leg pain

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. I will have 2 recommendations for you: 1) please get a regular opinion of a diabetologist because one reading does not mean that you are cured of blood sugar problems. 2) as far as your leg pain goes, it can be due to multiple reasons but I can advise you in a better manner if I can see some of your blood test reports like cbc, esr, cro, serum potassium and serum vitamin d levels. Also please tell me whether there is any swelling, or any other s/s of inflammation like redness, local warmth etc? over the involved leg? also if possible please send me a clinical picture of involved leg pointing towards site of pain so that I can see and understand. Till that time you can actually start with ice packs, limb elevation at home and a short course of anti inflammatory medication do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Painkillers will give a temporary relief. I suggest you to concentrate more on builing strength of your neck musculature using isometric exercises and postural correction. Try with the exercises and improve your posture to prevent neck pain in the future.

My grandmother is 64 years old. She is suffering for back pain very badly from 2 months. She has osteoarthritis from 16 yrs. Now she can not walk and stand and seat properly and felling abdominal pain at left waist and the pain is generating from waist to toe. What to do?

Requires detailed examination and investigation. Preliminary investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid vit d urine r/e x-ray of the affected part. Anyway it may be tried sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back, knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Let it not become beginning of a bigger problem. Make sure that patient is not allergic to any of the medicines that he/she is going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.

Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams Stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports Taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area Contrast Fomentation (Hot and Cold).

Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.

Dear lybrateuser, - Avoid sitting on hard surface, put a cushion or a pillow whenever you are sitting, also do not sit for too long - do back exercises to strengthen the coccygeal & spinal muscles to reduce pain - apply pain relief gel three times a day - take pain relief tablet after meals if pain is more - if pain is too much consult a doctor as injectables may be required to improve the condition.

I have swelling at the back of right ankle. It is small round, and extremely painful. I am unable to walk or even lift my leg. The pain is unbearable. When I slightly compress the area, it feels tremendously painful. As if I have great amount of weight tied to my leg. And when I try to walk, I feel as if something is pulling me down. Dear Mr. lybrate-user, from what you have described, you appears to have what is called a Retro Calcaneal Bursitis and you need to consult an orthopedic Surgeon for Investigation and Diagnosis and treatment. In the mean time you please use loose shoes and have to the following-1. Physical therapy in the form of relaxation exercises of the ankle joint up and down few times each time before walking from rest position. 2.Heat therapy in the form of taking Luke warm Water in a bucket half and dip the foot and ankle and repeat the same exercises under water for 10-15 mts. 3. Use a Double heel shoe or chappal and consult an Orthopedic Surgeon.
