High Blood Pressure - Ayurvedic Remedies For It!

High blood pressure is also known as hypertension. Blood pressure is the force that is felt on the artery walls as the blood flows through it. What happens during high blood pressure is that this force of blood against the arterial walls increases.

People who are physically inactive, smoke regularly, consume excessive alcohol or are diagnosed with other underlying health conditions are at the maximum risks of this condition. Factors such as increased levels of stress, old age, psoriasis and pregnancy also contribute to high blood pressure.

Symptoms of High Blood Pressure:

The symptoms of high blood pressure include headache that lasts for several days, nausea, vomitting (rare), vertigo, lightheadedness, double vision, blurred vision, nose bleeding (epistaxis), heart palpitation and dyspnea (shortness of your breath). Children with high blood pressure can bear symptoms such as fatigue, seizures, irritability, respiratory disease and Bell’s palsy (inability to move facial muscles of either side).

Remedies for High Blood Pressure:

  1. Losing weight- Obesity is one of the chief contributors to this condition. Keeping a regular check on your weight and following a healthy diet plan can help you maintain blood pressure. Exercising everyday for 30 minutes can also lower your blood pressure and prevent it from shooting up.
  2. Eating healthy- Eating foods rich in potassium (fruits and vegetables), whole grains and foods low in LDL count can help reduce blood pressure. Limiting salt and sodium in your diet is also very beneficial in controlling your blood pressure.
  3. Smoking and alcohol consumption- Excessive alcohol consumption and smoking can cause sudden spikes in blood pressure. Quitting smoking and limiting alcohol consumption can normalize the blood pressure.
  4. Reduce stress- One of the major reasons for high blood pressure is being subject to excessive stress over a prolonged period of time. Try to meditate or practice yoga to be more calm and composed. Keeping mental stress at bay does wonders in reducing blood pressure.

Hi lybrate-user, High blood pressure, is a serious health condition that can lead to heart attacks, strokes and kidney failure if not taken proper care. Here are some effective natural home remedies for High Blood Pressure- 1. Watermelon Seeds - Watermelon seeds reduces blood pressure levels and also helps a lot with arthritis. A. Grind equal quantities of dried watermelon seeds and poppy seeds. Take one teaspoon of this mixture in the morning on an empty stomach and again in the evening. B. Else, add two teaspoons of gently crushed, dried watermelon seeds to one cup of boiled water. Steep it for about an hour, then strain it. Take four tablespoons of this water at regular intervals throughout the day. 2. Fenugreek Seeds - Fenugreek seeds are an effective ingredient for lowering high blood pressure due to their high potassium and dietary fiber content. A. Boil one to two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in water for about two minutes, and then strain it. B. Put the seeds in a blender and mix it into a paste. C. Eat this paste twice a day, once in the morning on an empty stomach and once in the evening. Follow this remedy for two to three months to notice a significant improvement in your blood pressure level. 3. Garlic - Both raw and cooked garlic help control high blood pressure and at the same time reduce cholesterol levels. A. Eat one or two crushed garlic cloves daily. B. You can also mix five or six drops of garlic juice in four teaspoons of water and take it twice a day. 4. Banana - Bananas, highly rich in potassium are one fruit that people with high blood pressure can eat regularly to control it. Having one or two bananas daily is recommended. 5. Onion Juice - Onions have also been found to lower your blood pressure due to the presence of an antioxidant flavonol called quercetin. A. Try to eat one medium-sized, raw onion daily. B. You can also mix one-half teaspoon each of onion juice and honey and take it twice a day for one to two weeks. 6. Honey - Honey can reduce pressure from the heart and also has a calming effect on blood vessels, hence it can be helpful in reducing high blood pressure. A. Eat two teaspoons of honey on an empty stomach each morning. B. You can also mix one teaspoon each of honey and ginger juice with two teaspoons of cumin seed powder. Eat it twice a day. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

High cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney.
