Well sir your problem has started bcos of muscle weakness and improper posture of back. so exercises r vital for u. The problem of cramps and pain in your legs is also due to weakness in muscles, plus lack of calcium, potassium and magnesium in your diet. I would recommend that u learn some exercises for your lower limbs and get your blood check-up. If needed u have to consult some good dietitian. Thank you.

For most low back pain treatments, active exercise is the focus of the physical therapy programDepending upon the patient's specific diagnosis and level of pain, the back pain exercises andrehabilitation programs will be very different, so it is important for patients to see a spine specialist trained to develop an individualized program of back exercises and to provide instruction on using the correct form and techniqu. Most of us will suffer from back or neck pain at some stage during our lives. The good news is, however, in most cases the pain is not serious in nature and can be remedied. Postural related back pain generally stems from sitting for long periods with overloaded or tight back and pelvic muscles. For example, if your rear thigh muscles (hamstrings) are tight, when you sit they will pull the pelvis out of position and increase tension on the lower back muscles. This in turn overstretches your back muscles and with lengthy periods of sitting will cause pain. This is one example of many variations of postural related back pain. However, one thing will be in common, progressively developing back pain from long periods of overstretched and overloaded back muscles and ligaments. When you first start to develop postural back pain it manifests itself as a low grade ache which tends to be relieved with light exercise or avoiding sitting. But after a while the pain increases and tends to be there most of the time regardless of what you do. It should be noted that a small percentage of back pain is caused by more serious conditions like a prolapsed disc or nerve compression. Symptoms that suggest a more serious back problem are leg pains, pins and needles or weakness in your leg or foot. These symptoms need to be properly assessed by a Chartered Physiotherapist So what can you so to reduce back or neck pain? Firstly, break the cycle of sitting for long periods by getting up and moving around every 20 minutes or so and by introducing simple movements that can by Done at anytime, even when sitting (see below). Secondly, a daily routine of stretching and relaxing tight thigh (hamstring) and buttock (gluteal) muscles will help to prevent overloading your lower back muscles when sitting. Thirdly, reduce back or neck pain by relaxing the surrounding muscles and ligament by introducing the following routine 2-3 times a day: 1.Apply heat to the back muscles. A shower, massage or hot water bottle works best. This will help to relax the muscles. 2.Release and relax back muscles through massage, use of a tennis ball or foam roller for 5 to 10 minutes twice daily – purchase a foam roller from www. Physiosupplies. Com/exercise/foam-rollers Here is a video of foam rolling on YouTube 3.Apply movement to the lower back muscles using the suggested exercises below. About a minute of each 3 or 4 times a day will help to recover the overloaded lower back muscles. The components of the word'osteoporosis' literally mean'porous bones' -'osteo' is for bones, and'porosis' means porous - helpfully describing this condition that results in reduced bone density and increased fragility of the bones. The thinning of the bones in osteoporosis, combined with the formation of weaker bone crystals, puts people at a higher risk of fall and fractures. It can affect anyone of any gender, but it is particularly prevalent in postmenopausal women due to the sudden decrease in protective oestrogen levels after menopause. Signs and symtom Bone loss that develops slowly, leading to osteoporosis, does not cause any symptoms or outward signs. As such, a patient may only discover that they have osteoporosis due to an unexpected fracture after a minor fall or a slip or strain - or even a simple cough or sneeze - may result in a fracture. Breaks in the spine can lead to altered posture, with compressed vertebrae creating the stooped appearance often seen in older people Diagnosis Osteoporosis may be diagnosed directly through the use of a bone scan that measures bone mineral density (bmd). Central or peripheral dxa. Osteoporosis is diagnosed when the t-score is -2.5 or below.

Low Back Ache - Causes and Treatment

Low Back Ache - Causes and Treatment

There is a fun saying that anybody who has a back is going to have back pain. Jokes apart, its a stark reality that we are witnessing and will continue to witness in the coming decades due to the over dependence on machines for day to day activities and a higher prevalence of sedentary life style, especially among the young generation whose work depends on computers and staying indoors mostly.

90% people suffer from back pain in their lifetime, among them a fair number need medical help for the same.

Symptoms may include:

  • Difficulty in sitting/walking/standing due to back pain
  • Pain radiating to buttock, thigh, and or leg
  • Muscle spasm and stiffness, sometimes in the morning or at the end of the day
  • Soreness / tenderness in spine

Possible causes may be:

Strain of muscle or ligament - most common
Lumbar disc herniation (disc prolapsed/SlipDisc) - Pain mainly in buttock, leg and foot (sciatica)
Facet/spinal joint arthritis - usually causes slow back pain and leads to referred pain in thigh as the disease advances
Spinal canal stenosis and spondylolisthesis-narrowing of space available for spinal cord/nerves in the spinal tunnel -leading to sciatica and back pain that typically increases with standing /walking.
Spinal compression fracture - sudden onset of pain especially in postmenopausal women, osteoporotic individuals and long term steroid use, especially in asthmatics.
Less common causes can be:

  • Infection
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis
  • Coccydynia
  • Piriformis syndrome
  • Spinal tumours

Treatment

Treatment depends upon primary cause of pain. A large number of patients improve by conservative treatment or natural healing but short period of rest, reduced activity, analgesics/painkiller medication and physical therapy etc. help in recovery.

In some acute and non-responding cases, patients need Injection therapy where medicine is directly injected in and around the painful nerve/joint that provides short to long term relief.

In patients not responding to conservative/injection therapy, surgical treatment is offered. Depending upon the cause it may vary from keyhole surgery, microscopic surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery or open surgery. Contrary to public perception, spinal surgeries achieve the desired goals in 80-90% of the cases when correctly indicated and there is hardly any risk of paralysis nowadays.

hello lybrate user, pain in sole and heels is probably due to plantar fascitis, it is inflammatory swelling of plantar fascia (flat ligament which connect the heel bone to the toes, and supports the arch of feet) which ultimately causes pain, especially while standing and walking. it occurs due to weakening of ligament tissue due to over straining, using uncomfortable forware, heely sandals etc; take homeopathic treatment for pain in soles. it's safe, natural and holistic way of treatment. natural homeopathic remedies strikes at the root of problem to ensure complete relief. In chronic cases, medicine is selected on the basis of thorough details of patient like medical history, causes, temperament etc..; such well selected remedy gives complete cure without side effects. message back for proper homeopathic consultation.

Hurt my ring finger while playing basketball. Swelling on knuckles and the upper portion. There is no fracture or displacement though just swelling. I can close my hand too.

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
Rest the finger and apply ice. Ice or cold therapy can be applied for 10 minutes every hour initially reducing frequency as symptoms ease. Do not apply ice directly to the skin as it may apply ice burns unless it is in the form of ice massage. Keeping an ice cube moving over the area should avoid ice burns. During the acute phase which is usually the first 24 to 48 hours elastic bandage or small finger sized compression bandages can be used to help reduce swelling. Once the swelling has died down the finger should be taped to protect the injured ligament while it heals. As soon as pain allows mobility exercises to restore full movement in the finger should be done and eventually strengthening exercises with putty or hand exercise balls can restore strength. Please see a physiotherapist you have pain more than a week. Best wishes.

Hi. Thanks for your query- avoid heighted and hard pillows. Use soft pillow which may elevate your head to 5-10 degree. Aply move on your neck. Also if persistant- neck x-ray and follow up.
