Hi. I have a few suggestions for you regarding the usage of computers. Follow the rule of" 20" this means that every 20 minutes, take a gap of 20 seconds, blink your eyes actively 20 times and focus at an object which is minimum 20 feet away. This will help in relieving your eyes from the continuous strain that is caused due to staring. Staring at the computer continuously causes us to subconsciously blink less than normal. This causes the tear film on the surface of the eye to dry up. The result of this is pain, discomfort, etc. Another suggestions regarding the usage of computers is to maintain a proper posture. The computer must be positioned at the same height as your eye level. The neck should not be inadvertently flexed or extended. Roughly, an angle of 90 degrees should be maintained between your upper body and thighs. Likewise, a similar angle (90 degrees) should be maintained between your lower legs and thighs. Also the angle between your hands and arms should be roughly 90 degrees. This is the healthy ergonomic way of sitting while using a computer. Maintenance of proper posture would help in further relieving the symptoms of eye discomfort and pain. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care.

Hello I was diagnosed with corneal scar due to conjunctivitis. I was on prednisolone drops in stage by stage process. Visited doctor he told right eye has reduced but left eye still has some scars. Hence he gave tacrolimus ointment to be applied night. I applied night and morning my eyes were like burning and irritation. Is it common or should I stop using them. Please suggest.

Hello lybrate-user. From the symptoms described by you, it seems that you have been suffering from viral keratoconjunctivitis. It is a viral infection of the eye and tends to take long periods of time to resolve. By long periods, I mean that it may take months (upto 6 months) to completely heal. If you have been prescribed tacrolimus and its causing a lot of burning with irritation, it might be a good idea to use a lubricant eye drop copiously. Tacrolimus is known to cause burning, irritation and pricking. You could use a lubricant eye drop 8-10 times in a day. It would help in easing your discomfort. I would suggest not to stop the tacrolimus therapy without the consent of your cornea specialist. Hope my suggestions helped you.

You might be suffering from Cluster Headache or Paroxysmal Hemicrania. For accurate diagnosis details of your headache pattern is needed. Characteristics of Cluster headache are: 1. Severe unilateral headache around the eyes. 2. Headache lasts for 15 to 180 minutes. 3. There is Redness or watering of eyes/ nose, Eyelid swelling, Severe restlessness or agitation. 4 Headache can occur once every alternate day to 8 per day. This is just a brief outline. In such headache conventional painkillers are not generally effective and specific medicines are to be taken to prevent headache. Most patients get relief by taking oxygen inhalation. You should consult a Pain physician for further evaluation and management as treatment methods like Sphenopalatine block can give you good relief.
