My mother is diabetic consulting of eye doctor he said you r suffering with retina problem how we have to proceed for...
Hello. 1.Diabetic eye disease comprises a group of eye conditions that affect people with diabetes. These conditions include diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema (DME), cataract, and glaucoma. 2.All forms of diabetic eye disease have the potential to cause severe vision loss and blindness. 3.Diabetic retinopathy involves changes to retinal blood vessels that can cause them to bleed or leak fluid, distorting vision. 4.Diabetic retinopathy is the most common cause of vision loss among people with diabetes and a leading cause of blindness among working-age adults. 5.DME is a consequence of diabetic retinopathy that causes swelling in the area of the retina called the macula. 6.Controlling diabetes—by taking medications as prescribed, staying physically active, and maintaining a healthy diet—can prevent or delay vision loss. 7.Because diabetic retinopathy often goes unnoticed until vision loss occurs, people with diabetes should get a comprehensive dilated eye exam at least once a year. 8.Early detection, timely treatment, and appropriate follow-up care of diabetic eye disease can protect against vision loss. 9.Diabetic retinopathy can be treated with several therapies, used alone or in combination. Diabetic retinopathy and DME are detected during a comprehensive dilated eye exam that includes: A.Visual acuity testing. This eye chart test measures a person’s ability to see at various distances. B.Tonometry. This test measures pressure inside the eye. C.Pupil dilation. Drops placed on the eye’s surface dilate (widen) the pupil, allowing a physician to examine the retina and optic nerve. D.Optical coherence tomography (OCT). This technique is similar to ultrasound but uses light waves instead of sound waves to capture images of tissues inside the body. OCT provides detailed images of tissues that can be penetrated by light, such as the eye. The retina problems due to diabetes can be treated with several therapies that may be used alone or in combination. (1) Anti-VEGF Injection Therapy. Anti-VEGF drugs are injected into the vitreous gel. (2) Focal/grid macular laser surgery. In focal/grid macular laser surgery, a few to hundreds of small laser burns are made to leaking blood vessels in areas of edema and bleeding. (3) Corticosteroids. Corticosteroids, either injected or implanted into the eye, may be used alone or in combination with other drugs or laser surgery to treat DME. Being a retina specialist, I do understand your problem. I would again remind you to keep the blood sugar strictly under control and avoid fluctuations of any sort. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care-regards

I have colour blindness of red and green but my vision are6/6 so how it would be cure? And something its seems to be blurred?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

I have colour blindness of red and green but my vision are6/6 so how it would be cure? And something its seems to be ...
Color blindness occurs when there is a problem with the color-sensing granules (pigments) in certain nerve cells of the eye. These cells are called cones. They are found in the retina, the light-sensitive layer of tissue that lines the back of the eye. If just one pigment is missing, you may have trouble telling the difference between red and green. This is the most common type of color blindness. If a different pigment is missing, you may have trouble seeing blue-yellow colors. People with blue-yellow color blindness usually have problems identifying reds and greens, too. The most severe form of color blindness is achromatopsia. A person with this rare condition cannot see any color, so they see everything in shades of gray. Achromatopsia is often associated with lazy eye, nystagmus (small, jerky eye movements), severe light sensitivity, and extremely poor vision. Most color blindness is due to a genetic problem. About 1 in 10 men have some form of color blindness. Very few women are color blind. Symptoms Symptoms vary from person to person, but may include: • Trouble seeing colors and the brightness of colors in the usual way • Inability to tell the difference between shades of the same or similar colors Often, the symptoms may be so mild that some people do not know they are color blind. A parent may notice signs of color blindness when a child is learning his or her colors. Rapid, side-to-side eye movements (nystagmus) and other symptoms may occur in severe cases. Treatment There is no known treatment. However, there are special contact lenses and glasses that may help people with color blindness tell the difference between similar colors. Outlook (Prognosis) Color blindness is a lifelong condition. Most people are able to adjust to it without difficulty or disability. Homoeopathic medicine SANTONINE 3X ( Dr Reckeweg) Chew 2 tab twice daily for 3 months. If the color blindness is partial ie. If one pigment is missing then the above homoeopathic medicine is very useful in that case as seen in my general practise.I will advise you ,that what ever is your condition, you should start taking this medicine.Purely homoeopathic, noside effects.

I want to do laser for eyes. What is the minimum age for this treatment. And what about its cost?

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
I want to do laser for eyes. What is the minimum age for this treatment. And what about its cost?
Hi. The mminimum age should be 18 years though it should be decided judicially by the eye specialist assessing your eyes. Operations done to remove the refractive error (power) of the eyes are known as refractive surgery (lasik). There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. Last but not the least, you should set realistic expectations from this surgery. Though extremely rare, there is a remote possibility that the surgery may need to be repeated. Also, the need for subsequent treatment for the eye may be required. Thus, you should be compliant enough to trust and follow your eye specialist. Take care, regards.

sugars have to be brought under control. diabetes affects wound healing.. so laser application damages the hypoxic areas in the retina hence the healing of the retina will be delayed as well

No NEVER keep the contact lenses in any other solution than that is recommended. Keeping in water can contaminate it and cause infection to the eyes while wearing such contact lenses. Contact lens solution has special properties and protects the contact lens from scratches also the pH of the solution is different from water hence it is not adviceable to store or wash the contact lenses in any other solution not prescribed by the doctor.

I have red eyes for 6 week. What is the reason behind this? What is the remedy for this?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
I have red eyes for 6 week. What is the reason behind this? What is the remedy for this?
Hello, Bloodshot eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye become swollen. Vessels may swell due to: Eye dryness Too much sun exposure Dust or other particles in the eye Allergies Infection Injury Eye infections or inflammation can cause redness as well as possible itching, discharge, pain, or vision problems. Other causes of eye redness include Colds or allergies, Acute glaucoma, Corneal scratches: Injuries caused by sand, dust, or overuse of contact lenses. Sometimes, a bright red spot, called a subconjunctival hemorrhage, will appear on the white of the eye. This often happens after straining or coughing, which causes a broken blood vessel on the surface of the eye. Most often, there is no pain and your vision is normal. It is almost never a serious problem. Because the blood leaks into the conjunctiva, which is clear, you cannot wipe or rinse the blood away. Like a bruise, the red spot will go away within a week or two. Management: - Try to rest your eyes if redness is due to fatigue or eye strain. No other treatment is needed. - Wash your hands, hold clean water in your hand, keep your eyes closer to the water and dip the eyes by blinking the eyelids frequently in the held water in hand. Repeat it for 3-4 times again. - Avoid watching T.V., working on computer or mobile, reading. - In case there is itching, use a clean napkin or a tissue to wipe the tears and cleaning the eyelids gently. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Schwabe’s Belladonna 30 and Euphrasia 30 - both thrice daily for 4 days. Use Euphrasia Eye drops twice daily. Revert back thereafter.
