Hello doctors, can you please tell me like if I consume tea then will it help to fight with cancer or is it help to reduce the fear of cancer attack.

Dear, some people claim so but actually it is not proven. Better is to maintain good health, eat less fatty but enough fibrous foods, good exercise for preventing the formation of cancer.

Is prostate enlargement possible in 23 year age? I am facing problem in toilet and urinate so many times.

Is prostate enlargement possible in 23 year age? I am facing problem in toilet and urinate so many times.
Mr. lybrate-user. Increase in frequency of toilet does not always mean prostate enlargement. It is most commonly urinary tract infection. Visit a doctor and get a urine investigation done. Drink lots of water. Hope it helps.

9 Early Warning Signs Of Ovarian Cancer!

9 Early Warning Signs Of Ovarian Cancer!

Ovarian cancer is a broad term used to describe cluster of different types of cancers occurring in a single organ i.e. ovary. It can occur at any age- from infancy till old age , even though ovarian carcinoma in younger/childhood comprises only 20% of all ovarian cancers. Majority of ovarian cancers are epithelial - arising from the covering from ovary or from the fallopian tube or the lining of the peritoneum of the abdominal cavity.

The Silent Killer:

Ovarian cancer is called a silent killer as majority of patients report any symptoms when the disease is in the advance stage. Hardly 2-3% of all ovarian cancers cause bleeding or hirsutism, thereby seeking prompt treatment. Majority of ovarian cancer occurs in peri/postmenopausal women which reflect change in interior milieu in terms of hormones.

Since the symptoms are non-specific, women tend to ignore them due to growing age/menopause. Also, mostly women normally don't consult physicians for such non-gynecological complaints, thereby further delaying the diagnosis. It is recommended that women remain involved in their overall health and keep themselves updated to report any abnormality immediately to a specialist.

The main symptoms associated with Ovarian Cancer are:

  • Bloating sensation especially after heavy meals.

  • Increasing abdominal girth (especially if no change in diet or if regularly exercising).

  • Increasing heaviness (fullness) in lower abdomen.

  • Increasing constipation.

  • Persistent Gastritis, if previously absent.

  • Inability to eat proper meal.

  • Increasing tiredness.

  • Increased frequency of urination.

  • Painful contact.

Further, if there is family history of breast/uterine/ovarian cancer in first and second degree relatives, this increases the risk of developing ovarian and breast cancer. Such females should remain vigilant for above-mentioned symptoms and should report promptly. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can ask a free question.

Am I more at risk if my relatives have cancer and what do cancer stages and grades mean?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear mam, five to seven percent cancers may be inherited rest are due to acquired mutations Caused by some injury to genes. This genetic injury may be due to chemicals, tobacco, radiation exposure, adulterated food, viruses etc Stages of cancer means how big the tumour is and where all it has spread. Grade means the Nature and aggressiveness of disease.

You have all the symptoms of an enlarged prostate most likely a benign (non cancerous) growth. Get an ultra sound abdomen and pelvis with full urinary bladder, and repeat the test after passing urine, called post voiding test which will show how much urine is left out after you normally pass this gives a fair idea of growth of prostate, my opinion is to see a urologist right away and follow his advice.

The psa value of 51 is quite high. He needs a dedicated ultrasound of the prostate to rule out cancer. He should also be shown to a urologist or uro oncosurgeon to get a digital rectal examination and usg guided multi quadrant biopsy. Sorry to scare you, but usually bph doesn't have such high values, so it is better to evaluate thoroughly.

Hi this and from past 10 years I am having fribo adenoma on my right breast and twice I have been operated but again and again coming back.

PGDMLS, PGDHHM, LLB, PhD Surgery, MS - General Surgery

There is no need to get it removed unless it is causing significant symptoms or is rapidly growing in size or there is a recent change in its character or there is some reason for suspicion. Harmless fibroadenoma may be left alone but with monthly observation by self examination and periodic examination by a general surgeon.

One-third of Cancer Diseases Are Caused by Bad Eating Habits

One-third of Cancer Diseases Are Caused by Bad Eating Habits

People's daily reported that cancer has become the number one threat to human life. It is a common and frequently-occurring disease which seriously endangers the health of people. Cancer experts have pointed out that, besides the genetic factor, cancer is also highly related to the environmental factors, in which diet is one of the most important.

Relevant researches have pointed out that about one-third of the cancer diseases has something to do with the poor eating habits in daily life. With the gradual improvement of the living standards, people tend to eat more refined foods at the meal, while the intake of coarse grains and cereals is reduced. Such modern poor eating habit will lead to a series of cancers, which seriously affect the health of human body.

For example:

  • First, lack of cellulose will increase the incidence of colorectal cancer.
  • Second, excessive intake of high-fat, high-protein foods has become an important reason for the increasing incidence of breast cancer and colorectal cancer.
  • Third, about 75% of the head and neck cancer is caused by drinking alcohol and smoking.
  • Fourth, people who like to eat hard, hot, and pungent foods will easily suffer from esophageal cancer.
  • Fifth, gastric cancer has something to do with too much intake of smoked foods or foods which contain nitrate, such as sausage, ham, pickles, dried salted fish and so on.
  • Sixth, eating mildewed corn, peanut, rice and other foods or drinking unsanitary water will make people susceptible to liver cancer.
  • Seventh, people who prefer to eat sweet and greasy foods are most likely to suffer from pancreatic cancer.
  • Eighth, insufficient intake of vegetables and fruits has something to do with colorectal cancer, gastric cancer, liver cancer, breast cancer and esophageal cancer.

Common Prostate Problems Faced By Men!

Common Prostate Problems Faced By Men!

What menstrual problems are to women, prostate problems are to men. The prostate is a gland in the lower abdomen that aids in the production of semen. The prostate is walnut sized in a young man, but can get enlarged with age. As it grows bigger, it can cause a number of problems. These are commonly seen after a man celebrates his 50th birthday.

There are three common prostate problems faced by men. Some of the symptoms that can tell if a man has a prostate problem are:

1. Difficulty faced while urinating.
2. The urge to urinate frequently at night.
3. Constant feeling of a full bladder.
4. Pain while urinating.
5. Blood in urine.

Prostatitis

This can be defined as inflammation of the prostate gland. In most cases the cause of this inflammation is unknown. However, there are two types of prostatitis; bacterial and nonbacterial. While the former reacts well to antibiotics, the latter is more difficult to control. Symptoms of this disease vary from one person to the next. Some of the factors that could trigger this disease are:

1. Chemical irritants
2. Past bacterial infection
3. Dysfunctional pelvic floor muscles
4. Sexual abuse
5. Chronic anxiety

Enlarged prostate

As mentioned earlier, as men get older, the prostate gland tends to grow in size. This growth is benign, but can block the bladder neck and prostatic urethra. This can cause problems urinating and lead to acute urinary retention. This can be very painful. Inserting a catheter can provide temporary relief and help release stored urine. Chronic retention is much less common and is associated with high bladder pressure and can damage the kidneys.

Prostate cancer

Advancing age and family genetic history are said to be the main triggers of prostate cancer. This type of cancer can remain restricted to the prostate gland in its early stages but may spread to the other glands as the cancer advances. This can also cause the growth of secondary tumors in the bones.

The only way to correctly diagnose a prostate problem is with a thorough physical examination. This includes a digital rectal exam where the doctor will insert a gloved finger into your rectum to check the size of your prostate, a blood test, mid stream urine tests and ultrasounds. In some cases a biopsy of the prostate may also be required. Depending on the diagnosis, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics, surgery, radiotherapy or hormone therapy to manage your prostate. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult an urologist.

If you are having repeated episodes of blood in sputum, you must get a bronchoscopy done after a course of antibiotics. Please review with bronchoscopy report if needed.

MBBS

Genetic changes that cause cancer can be inherited from our parents. They can also arise during a person’s lifetime as a result of errors that occur as cells divide or because of damage to DNA caused by certain environmental exposures. Cancer-causing environmental exposures include substances, such as the chemicals in tobacco smoke, and radiation, such as ultraviolet rays from the sun. there are so many doctors in delhi and mumbai. in delhi, aiims, ganga ram, batra hospital and so may. thanks

I am having multiple fibroadenoma in both breasts, which were very small" Is this fibroadenoma will become cancerous tumors in the future and is there any diet restrictions to get it reduced. Can you please answer my question.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear mam, fibroadenomas are benign tumour and do not become malignant usually. You should get fnac confirmation to be really sure of it. You can either get it operated or just monitor periodically. Medicines used for this have side effects, so I will not recommend. Nothing related to diet may help but do regular work out.

I am suffering from Benign Prostate Hyperplasia. I underwent two month course of Urimax followed by 6 month course of Finasteride but the frequency of urination is not reduce. I am 68 and have no Diabetes. Walk 10 KMs per day and follow healthy lifestyle. Am a total teetotaler. What is the solution now ? Sonography has revealed only a very minor prostate enlargement.

MD, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Pune
Dear Sir, this is typically BPH where as urimax and finasteride are not showing adequate results. We can add ayurvedic tablets simultaneously and urinary frequency and retention reduces significantly.

If he has urinary symptoms and psa is high, he should have surgery by endoscopic method. The excised gland then can be sent for biopsy. If he has no urinary symptoms then he should get biopsy of prostate done to rule out cancer.
