My grandpa's behind neck region near back of left ear nerve is paining since 3-4 days. Is it a nerve problem or what? Please give me tips to cure my grandpa's pain? ²

My grandpa's behind neck region near back of left ear nerve is paining since 3-4 days. Is it a nerve problem or what?...
Neck Pain: Home Remedy This is cervical pain (neck pain) and that's the reason the pain radiates until the shoulder blades. If you keep ice that would help to reduce the pain and feel relaxed and comfortable. You shall also do hot water fermentation that would improve the blood circulation to the painful area and thereby the pain would be reduced. You shall use cervical collar which would help you to reduce the radiating pain and also that would improve the cervical angle and improve the anatomical posture. The pain actually triggers due to nerve compression and that would definitely improve by wearing a cervical collar.

My wife is suffering from chronic migrain. The trigger for this is stress. Presently she is taking betacap tr 40 tablets daily. 6 months back she has delivered a baby. What is the long term solution for this migrain.

MD - Pathology
General Physician, Amritsar
Best is to avoid trigger for migraine. It could be something in your diet, perfumes, poor sleep, depression, fasting and many more. Betacap tr is first line of preventive treatment. Wait for 1-3 months for appropriate response. This dose can be increased. We have to be very cautious giving her this preventive treatment as many drugs terratogenic and she is in reproductive age group.

I am having problem of shivering hands since five years. I do not even drink. My hands kept shivering continuously. I feel ashamed in front of my friends and relatives.

MBBS
General Physician, Cuttack
. 1. It could be due to essential tremor. The cause of the tremor is unknown. In some cases it is hereditary and runs in families. There is no definite treatment unless it is severe 2 other causes of tremor could be stress, anxiety, panic, nervousness, inadequate sleep, physical exhaustion, strong emotion, hyperthyroidism, hypoglycemia, smoking/tobacco/alcohol abuse/withdrawl, excess tea/coffee, drugs like steroid/amphetamine, neurological disorder, cerebellar dis order 3. Investigate yourself to exclude the above causes of tremor after consulting neurologist 4. Avoid stress/anxiety/nervousness/ panic etc 5. Avoid excess tea/coffee/ smoking/alcohol if you have 6. Take good nourishing diet 7. Have adequate sleep. 8. Do a thyroid function test to exclude thyroid problem 9. Consult neurologist for further advice.

Menstrual Migraines Treatment

MBBS, MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Advanced Infertility
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Menstrual Migraines Treatment

Menstrual Migraine can be termed as an extremely persistent headache that can happen just before, during or right after menstruation. Often, the feeling of nausea also keeps on lingering. The cause which triggers this type of migraine can be the fluctuating levels of oestrogen that a woman’s body experiences when she is on her periods.

What can be the possible treatment?

  1. Application of ice pack or simply rubbing ice on your forehead can help lessen the pain a bit.

  2. Relaxation exercises can be practiced to reduce the tension of the muscles.

  3. Acupuncture therapy can also be done to improve the headache and it can further aid in relaxation of the muscles.

  4. Over the counter painkillers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol can be taken for immediate relief.

  5. Your doctor can also administer TRIPTAN (specific drugs used to treat the symptoms of migraine which work on the chemical receptors within the brain) if the pain is unbearable.

  6. Do not experiment much with hormonal contraception methods after unsafe sexual intercourse. It just might worsen the pain.

  7. NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) can also be administered, only if they have been prescribed by the doctor, as the harmful effects of those drugs are aplenty.

  8. Magnesium deficiency in the body is one of the most important causes for menstrual migraines. Thus, eating foods rich in magnesium such as dark leafy greens, nuts, whole grains, avocados, bananas, etc. and taking magnesium supplements or vitamins are advisable.

  9. There are certain foods which can even trigger such attacks. They include foods packed with monosodium glutamate (MSG), aged cheese and caffeine. Such foods should be strictly avoided. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.
