My baby girl is 5 months old. And her weight is only 5.48 kg. She is only in Breastfeed. Shall I start formula milk once a day. Or shall I continue with only breast feed. As last month her weight was 5.20 kg. I think my milk is not sufficient for my baby. Pls suggest what I should do to increase her weight.

Hi, if the baby is fine, plays and is smiling and all his other activities are normal then there is no need to start formula milk, as mother's milk is the best milk for babies, since your baby is 5 months old, you can start giving fruit and vegetable juices once a day as this will help in easy and good transition to weaning foods, which you will be starting from next month.

Which vaccination is better for baby and why DTap or DTwp? Also pcv 13 is better or 10?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
Which vaccination is better for baby and why DTap or DTwp? Also pcv 13 is better or 10?
DTwP is better than DTaP immunologically though it's little painful for couple of days. PCV 13 covers 13 strains as against 10 in PCV 10 there by reducing the cost. It is your call.

A 11 month old baby should be eating virtually everything which is being cooked at home such as dhal, sabji (vegetables), rice, etc. Cerelac and farex can be good weaning food but are not the ideal ones.

Common School Related Problems In Children!

M.Sc - Applied Psychology, M.Phil - Psychology
Psychologist, Lucknow

Ups and downs at school are part of life for many young people. A good relationship with your child’s school and teachers can help you head off problems. If school problems come up,  it’s important that you quickly recognize and address them.
Problems at school can show up as poor academic performance, lack of motivation for school, loss of interest in school work, or poor relationships with peers or teachers.
School difficulties range from minor to severe, might be very short-lived or last for longer.
Common signs of school problems-

  •  Drop in marks in one or more subjects.
  •  Lack of engagement, connection or involvement with school – for example, your child might not be interested in extracurricular activities or have very few friends.
  • Showing embarrassment or discomfort when talking about school.School difficulties range from minor to severe, might be very short-lived or last for longer.
    Common signs of school problems-
  • Refusing to talk with you about school, or rarely talking about school with family or friends.
  • Never or rarely doing homework, or rarely talking about homework.
  • Having low confidence or lacking self-esteem – your child might say she is ‘dumb’, ‘stupid’ or not as clever as her friends.
  • Being kept back at lunch time or the end of the school day.
  • Finding excuses not to go to school or skipping school without your knowledge.
  • Being bored with school work or not feeling challenged enough – your child might say he’s not learning anything new.
  • Having attention or behavior problems.
  • Being bullied or bullying others.

Sometimes, problems at school will be easy to spot, and your child will willingly talk to you about them.

But some children hide problems from their parents, teachers and peers. They might copy homework, pretend to be sick during important tests, or not bring reports home. This can make it very difficult for you to pick up on a problem. Sometimes even teachers might not spot the clues – especially if your child is absent a lot.

Causes of school problems

  1. Behavioral or developmental difficulties.
  2. Poor communication skills.
  3. Poor social skills.
  4. Difficulty with listening, concentrating or sitting still.
  5. Disliking, or not feeling connected to, the school culture or environment.
  6. Disliking school subjects, not liking the choice of subjects, or not feeling challenged by the work
  7. Not getting along with teachers or other students at school.
  8. Parents who aren’t involved in their child’s education.
  9. Family problems such as relationship breakdowns.
  10. Competing demands on time, such as extracurricular activities.
  11. Skipping school because of any of the reasons listed above.

My daughter is 14 years but her completion is dark. How to make her skin fair with home remedies. She uses Vaseline Aloe Vera lotion.

Everyone has a favourite face cream or treatment, but beautiful skin starts with nourishment from within. Older cells are constantly shed and replaced by younger ones and a steady supply of micronutrients is essential to support this rapid growth. Eat the correct balance of foods and you'll feed your skin the vital nutrients it needs to help it stay soft, supple and blemish-free. Eat your five-a-day Fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are caused by smoking, pollution and sunlight and can cause wrinkling and age spots. Eat a rainbow of colourful fruit and vegetables and aim for at least five portions a day. Betacarotene, found in pumpkin, carrots and sweet potatoes, and lutein, found in kale, papaya and spinach are potent antioxidants, important for normal skin cell development and healthy skin tone. Vitamin C Vitamin C is also a super antioxidant. It is needed for a strong immune system, radiant skin and helps blemishes heal properly. The best sources are blackcurrants, blueberries, broccoli, guava, kiwi fruits, oranges, papaya, strawberries and sweet potatoes. They all help to produce collagen that strengthens the capillaries that supply the skin. Cut out crash diets Repeatedly losing and regaining weight can take its toll on your skin, causing sagging, wrinkles and stretch marks. Crash diets are often short in essential vitamins too. Over long periods of time this type of dieting will reflect on your skin. Stock up on selenium Selenium is a powerful antioxidant. It works alongside other antioxidants such as vitamins E and C and is essential for the immune system. Studies suggest that a selenium-rich diet can help to protect against skin cancer, sun damage and age spots. One way to boost your intake is to eat Brazil nuts. Just four nuts will provide the recommended daily amount (RDA). Mix Brazil nuts with other seeds rich in vitamin E as a snack or salad sprinkle. Other good sources are fish, shellfish, eggs, wheatgerm, tomatoes and broccoli. Vitamin E Vitamin E protects skin from oxidative (cell) damage and supports healthy skin growth. Foods high in vitamin E include almonds, avocado, hazelnuts, pine nuts and sunflower and corn oils. Drink up Skin needs moisture to stay flexible. Even mild dehydration will cause your skin to look dry, tired and slightly grey. Drink six to eight glasses of water a day - all fluids count towards your daily allowance, but water is the best. If you work in an office, keep a large bottle of water on your desk to remind you to drink. Herbal, caffeine-free teas are good too. Try to avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, both can age the skin.

My son has suffer from a fever from 18th July to till now. My son is 4 year old. His body temperature is between 100-103 celsius. But we consult with our family Dr. On 19th July morning. He has given some medicine 1. P250; 2. Chloroquine phosphate suspension 3.vomikind.but not improve till now, what shall I do now at first ? Dear Dr.

FIAP(NEONATE), MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ahmedabad
Chloroquine is specific for malaria so unless yoyears child is suffering from malaria it will not help. Your child might be having a simple viral infection which usually responds to paracetamol that you are giving to your child. However it is difficult to say for sure without seeing the patient. So if your son does not respond or develops new symptoms or has persistent vomitting and not taking orally well I suggest to consult a paediatrician. Warm regards

In 1 simple sentence, yes, crying affects on physical as well as mental health. Harsh sentence, you have to choose 1 out of 2. Rest advice depends on your family n social circumstances.
