Hi, I am 36 years old. I start stammering from last 3 months and I observe that when I am in any type of stress this problem become more painful for me. Sometimes I am unable to speak even a single word without stammering. I am taking treatment from PGI Chandigarh they suggest me to brain MRI in next month and refer to ENT for speech therapy. Please tell me can I get rid of this problem or guide me for better treatment or medicines.

You do some breathing exercises and oral motor exercises. And take a time while you speak some one. You practice in front of mirror. Daily. After some time your stammering totally short out. Keep patience.

Hi unfortunately stammering has no medicinal treatment. However if your brother takes proper speech therapy from a qualified speech therapist then his problem can surely be solved. Speech therapy will involve air flow management techniques, proper breathing patterns, language and fluency techniques, a combination ofvvthese can help any chronic stutterer also. Good luck! you can consult me in private with details of the onset and course of your brothers stammering so that I can guide you better.

Dear Shrividya, Welcome to lybrate. Stammering is "speaking with sudden involuntary pauses and a tendency to repeat the initial letters of words" or "say something with difficulty, repeating the initial letters of words and with sudden involuntary pauses". Stammering could be due to two reasons. First reason is Vocal cord misalignment. Second is Psychological performance anxiety. First of all you should consult an ENT Specialist and evaluate your vocal chords. If there is problem, ENT specialist will be able to correct it. If there is no problem with your vocal chords, You should consult a psychologist for stammer therapy. Take care.

stammering could be due to physical problems like vocal chord problems or due to psychological problems. First consult an ent specialist to make sure it is not the case. Take care.

Hello, you are advised to join the speech therapy classes. Repeat those words on which you stammer, means words which are not clear and don't hesitate after some time if you practice well then your speech will become better.

If development is normal there is no tongue tie then we can wait as usually children are able to speak by 2 years. If she is able to express herself by gestures it's okay.

I can not suggest about any surgery as its not part of my speciality but you must be having lots of psychological concerns. You need to accept yourself as you are. This will help you to face your real identity.
