Mr. Lybrate-user, high blood sugar can be reduced by appropriate drugs, diet restriction and daily exercise. If you take drugs prescribed as advised then sugar levels do come down fairly rapidly. But to maintain those, medicine/s should be taken regularly, plus dietary control has to be strictly observed.

It is correct to count blood sugar post breakfast instead of meal. Will the count differ variably?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

It is correct to count blood sugar post breakfast instead of meal. Will the count differ variably?
Mr. Lybrate-user, usually fasting sugar level is done after at least 8 hours after food (dinner), then again for convenience sake after food (after breakfast) is checked. If post lunch blood glucose is checked it may vary depending upon the size of meal. If your lunch is bigger in quantity than breakfast then blood glucose level will be more. The idea of taking after breakfast is to get an idea of post food level to decide the treatment.

Restrict fried foods, eat plenty of salads, green leafy vegetables, fruits. Take aerobic exercises, pranayam and yogasanas. Involve urself in religious activities, chanting mantras which will improve your life quality.

I am facing uric acid problem in my lower back left side! Suggest me wht should I do to clean uric acid! And I am unable to stop eating chicken, mutton etc! Plz help.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
The first thing you should do is to eat foods that are high in fiber, This is because fiber rich foods absorb uric acid from the blood. Your kidneys then'throw' out the excess uric acid. Try to eat Oatmeal, Spinach, cauliflowers and Isabgol in milk if possible.  Please use olive oil to cook your food. Kindly avoid vegetable oils because they become unhealthy when heated twice. This leads to rancid fat in the body. These destroy vitamin E, that in turn controls uric acid levels. Olive oil also curbs uric acid by itself.  Vitamin C chewable tablets taken 500mg daily lower uric acid levels within 4 to 8 weeks.  Try to stop intake of sweets, cakes and pastries. Saturated fats are bad for you.  Many fruits have got potent anti-oxidant properties, like celery seeds, grapes and tomatoes, and these prevent harmful toxins from attacking your organs - releasing uric acid.

Hello doctors
My mom has some problems.
Like paining in her body like in joints every part of body joints and she get...
Hello, the problem of joint pains could be due to uncontrolled hypothyroidism. She is on treatment with 25 mcg thyroxine, that may not be adequate. Please get a tsh level test done and report the same. When hypothyroidism is in good control tsh should be between 3 to 4 mu/l. In that case most of the symptoms go away. So please do that test, and come back. Thanks.

Hi - thanks for your question. For diabetic patients two things are important 1. Proper timely low calories diet 2. Activities, mild to moderate exercise to all. Some modifications can be there as per age, life styles, status of during pp, fasting of blood glucose. Over all low rice, rice products, no junk, fast, out side street foods, no spices, salt, of course no sugar. Do max walking, jogging even can do by dynamic activities. Gourd vegetables, low calorie fruits except banana, mangoes, dry fruits. No plain rice better brown rice & breads for blood circulation. Citrus fruits are better, milk double tonned, or chana, sour curd are good. No stress. Diet & exercises are all here. For medicine can contact your diabbetologst.

Hello lybrate-user, high amh level is predictive of pcos in your case. Ohss or ovarian hyperstimulation is a treatment related adverse effect which is seen in patients undergoing ovarian stimulation with hormones. Get a tvs for detecting pcos and fsh & lh done on day 2 of your menstrual cycle. Pcos can have effect on fertility. But is treatable. Montoux test has not got much clinical significance.

Hypothyroid is not considered to be under control till the tsh report is within range. Our objective is to bring tsh within range which is usually less than 5.5. So currently your dose needs to be escalated for sure.

Hello. I am 40 years old women from the last 5 year I got a sugar and bp I am taking medicine frm last 4 year but now...
Dear lybrate user, you should immediately stop the medication for blood pressure. Regarding your problem of diabetes I fear that you may have become insulin dependant diabetic patient. In that case you should go for insulin injection. However, you could try homoeopathic uranium nit q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water for one month. Check your blood sugar level after one month of medication. If you do not observe any decrease in your blood sugar level then you should go for insulin injection.
