My father has been diagnosed with diabetes. It has been 5-6 years since. But he is just not getting totally free from this disease we are taking every precaution that we can. Doing whatever the doctor is according to the diet chart. If you could suggest something regarding treatment or diet it would be very much appreciated.

MBBS,Doctor of Medicine, CCH
General Physician, Bhopal
Firstly Diabetes is a disease which can be controlled, not cured. He will need to have a strict diet control along with medication. There are many drugs available which can be given to him. If medicines do not work then Insulin can be tried. Don't loose hope, consult a diabetologist and follow his advice.

I am a diabetic since last year. I am not too fat. I tried ayurvedic medication but nothing worked. Prescribe some medicine for normal daily life.

MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
You need to get your fasting blood glucose and hba1c checked first, along with your lipid profile. There are a lot of anti-diabetic medicines available in the market and choice of medicine varies from person to person. So get your tests done and visit your physician at the earliest. Life lstyle modification has a great role to play too. Avoid all starchy and sweet things, fatty foods to be avoided too. Quit smoking and alchohol. Exercise daily for at least 40 minutes.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have got multiple problems for which you actually need to see a general physician. For your spine pain, - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc in case you are having back pain. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
medicines are must for controlling blood sugar Following are the tips to prevent onset/or control diabetes 1-Losing Extra Weight:-The most significant thing which can make a big difference to your health is to lose your extra weight. This will not only lower your blood pressure but also helps lowering your cholesterol too. For women: waist of 80 cm or more & for man: waist of 90 cm or more are at risk 2- Constant and regular food timings :-the timings at which you have your meals should be set fixed and at regular intervals each day. This will considerably improve your metabolic activity and helps reducing your weight. 3- Split your meals and eating in moderate amount:-Splitting your meals into 3-4 times per day (including snacks)and eating in fair and consistent amount , improves your metabolic rate as the food u take is not concentrated at one time. 4- No long Gaps and skipping of meals:-There should be no long gaps between meals. Never miss out breakfast. 5- No overeating:-Never eat in a bulk on one time .Try to have moderate amount of food each time u eat. It will help maintain your blood sugar at a healthy level and won?t let it to fluctuate. Remember to eat your food slowly, chew well. 6- Proper Exercise and work outs:-Exercise is very important and a fast way to trim down calories, extra weight and controlling glucose level. Brisk walking for 30 min. atleast five times a week is the best and easiest way of exercising. You can also try Cycling, swimming, dancing. Timings for exercise should be fixed and regular. Avoid heavy exercise. Do not eat right away after a workout . 7-constant and regular timings for medication 8-Avoid fried foods and meat: Limit fats and sweets. Rather choose a variety of foods including whole grains, fresh vegetables, salads, fruits, low fat dairy products. 9- Take high-fibre and complex carbohydrates:-like oats as they are easily broken down to basic sugars. Add whole grain foods in your diet. Avoid carbohydrates like white bread, pasta, pizza , candies, and snacks .Instead include high-fiber carbohydrates like wheat bran, flaxseed and methi seeds to your wheat flour. This will increase fibre in your diet. 10-Drink enough fluids:-Keep your body well hydrated. Drink a lot of water that will help flush the toxins off your system. 11.Fresh vegetables and fruits:- gives essential benefits as these contain a lot of vital minerals as well as nutrients .Include sprouts in the diet as they are easily digestible and a rich source of nutrients. 12- Avoid excess salt:-in form of pickles/papads etc. 1 tsp(5 gm)is sufficient for a healthy hypertensive individual. 13-Avoid alcohol consumption:-Alcohols such as beer and wine contains large amount of calories. choose sugar-free drink. 14- dairy products :-Dairy products are high on fat content such as cheese, curd, milk etc. So instead consume skimmed milk products , low fat cheese, yogurt (curd) etc. Do not have more than two cups of tea or coffee every day. WHO recommends adults & children reduce their daily intake of free sugars to less than 10% of their total energy intake. A further reduction of free sugars intake to below 5% or roughly 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day would provide additional health benefits

Tsh is 26 against a max. 0f 5. Esr 15 against max. Of 7. These tests were done when complained of ibs. I am taking medicines for thyroid. For ibs what should be done?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
you can take medicines for thyroid..tab. thyronorm 150 mcg before meal.and for ibs you cut out such items as carbonated beverages, vegetables — especially cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower — and raw fruits.Fiber supplements. Taking fiber supplements, such as psyllium (Metamucil) or methylcellulose (Citrucel), with fluids may help control constipation. Fiber obtained from food may cause much more bloating compared with a fiber supplement. If fiber doesn't help symptoms, your doctor may prescribe an osmotic laxative such as milk of magnesia or polyethylene glycol.
