With age the digestive system also gets slow and weak, another reason for this condition may be you are not doing proper physical work and spending more of the day on chairs or bed. You need to do the following: 1. Avoid overeating 2. Have meal atleast one hour before going to bed 3. Walk a little after meals 4. Avoid stuffs like too much spicy and fried, you can satisfy your taste buds but do not fill your stomach with such stuff. 5. Have some saunf or fennel seeds after meals. 6. Daily go for a walk of 35-45 minutes 7. Keep yourself hydrated by having water at intervals.

Weight gain precedes the onset of diabetes

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Weight gain precedes the onset of diabetes
Weight gain after age 18 years in women and after age 20 years in men also increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The Nurses’ Health Study, compared women with stable weight (those who gained or lost <5 kg) after the age of 18 years to women who gained weight. Those who had gained 5–8 kg had a relative risk of diabetes of 1.9; this risk increased to 2.7 for women who gained 8–11 kg.
Similar findings were noted in men in the Health Professionals Study.

Thus, the excess risk for diabetes with even modest weight gain is substantial.

Weight gain precedes the onset of diabetes. Among Pima Indians (a group with a particularly high incidence of type 2 Diabetes), body weight gradually increased 30 kg (from 60 kg to 90 kg) in the years preceding the diagnosis of diabetes.

While sitting there is a cracking sound inside my right knee, doctor said it might be deficiency of vitamin D. After some tests doctor confirmed that I have vitamin deficiency. He gave me vitamin powders and he said to stand in early morning sunlight so that I can get vitamin D. But I have not much time to stand in early morning sunlight. I'm a student so I have to get ready for school. Can I have some vitamin D rich foods? But I do not know what to eat, can you please suggest some vitamin D rich foods?

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Hye. Thanks for the query. Vitamin D is essential for bone health. If you don't spend enough time in the sun or if your body has trouble absorbing the vitamin, you may not get enough.  Firstly it is important to understand that you need to have a balanced diet to help absorption of all vitamins. But there are some things you can do to increase the Vitamin D levels. Firstly get sunlight. Sunlight spurs the body to make vitamin D.A small amount of sun exposure without sunscreen can do the trick. If you're going to get it from the sun, about 20 to 25 minutes of exposure is helpful. Include in your diet foods like fatty fish like mackerel/bangda, an egg yolk, dairy, fish oil (capsules), ghee and nuts. Also you may have to take a supplement as per the physician's advice.

Masturbation addicts you even if you taste it for one time. Controlling it is a very big menace. 5. I am suffering head ache for the last two years. L have chest pain and cough. I have never consulted a doctor. What to do.

General Physician, Mumbai
For pain take tablet paracetamol 650 mg and for dry cough I will suggest you to take syp adulsa 5 ml and can repeat after a gap of six hours as and when required and few things related to headache so that we can plan the treatment accordingly - if pain is associated with blurred or decreased vision than check your eye sight for refractive error - if the pain is associated with cold and fever than we have to rule out sinusitis as the cause and if the pain is pulsatile in nature and with a throbbing pain usually with an aura than we have to rule out migrane as the cause - if the pain is associated with neck problems than we have to rule out cervical spondylosis as the cause - if the pain is associated with either low or high bp or due to hyperacidity than we have to treat the cause after examination.
