Greetings doctor. 10 days back when I was sitting down some breakage sound came in my left side of left leg knee. And 2 days after the knee started swelling and pain was also there. And I used pain killers for that. I consulted orthopaedic doctor. He said some infection is there. He gave some tablets and injections. While using them no pain and swelling was there. But now the tablets are over. And knee started swelling again. What happened to knee?

Seems you need an MRI or atleast an X-ray, apart from few blood tests to rule out for ligament tear, muscle rupture or a hair line fracture. Get these done and get back to us for further advice on this.

I have got my ankle ligament sprained. Now its more than 15 days of bed rest. What should I do now. Any medicine?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. If there is just a sprain, and there is no bony injury, there is no reason why you have been kept on complete bed rest. You can wear a good quality ankle brace and start mobilizing, normally soft tissue injuries take around 3 weeks to heal if proper management is done. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

There are many causes of leg pain. However, only some of these are medically serious. Minor discomfort will often disappear within a short time and can be eased or relieved with at-home treatments.

Common Causes of Leg Pain

Cramps

A principle cause of leg pain is a cramp or muscle spasm, often known as a charley horse. Muscle fatigue, dehydration, and some medications—such as diuretics and statins—can all lead to leg cramps.

Injury

Leg pain is also frequently a sign of injury, such as:

muscle strainstendonitis (an inflamed tendon)shin splints (pain in the lower front of your leg after overuse)stress fractures

Medical Conditions

Certain medical conditions commonly lead to leg pain. These include:

atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries)
deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot caused by long periods of bed rest)
arthritis
gout
varicose (spider) veins
the presence of infection in the bone or tissues of the leg
nerve damage (often as a result of conditions such as diabetes)

Try to sleep on a hard bed. Use a pillow with minimum thickness in your home. Perform Yoga and some exercises (partial crunches, hyperextensions etc.) to make your abs and back muscles stronger under proper supervision.

Some common home care techniques for knee pain that control inflammation and help to break the inflammatory cycle are protection, rest, ice, compression, and elevation, I can prescribe a detailed treatment plan. Do reply back for medications. Being also a general physician, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary tips taking into account patient preferences.

It is not absolutely necessary to remove the plate and screw. As 11 years already over it may difficult also to remove it. If it is creating some problem like infection then only it has to be removed.

acute toes and legs pain even after a little physical work. Feel pain while moving toes up and down.what to do
Keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.
