I am suffering from PCOD. I am taking medications for it from a homeopathic doctor. And I have started exercising as well to shed some weight. But I still dont know what to eat to keep calories off and reduce the hair growth especially on face and neck. What should I do?

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
.if you are suffering from PCOD. More than 50 percent of women with PCOS will have diabetes or pre-diabetes (impaired glucose tolerance) before the age of 40. The risk of heart attack is 4 to 7 times higher in women with PCOS than women of the same age without PCOSSome women develop less common types of cysts that may not produce symptoms, but that a doctor may find during a pelvic exam. Cystic ovarian masses that develop after menopause may be cancerous (malignant). That's why it's important to have regular pelvic exams. Infrequent complications associated with ovarian cysts include: Ovarian torsion. Cysts that become large may cause the ovary to move out of its usual position in the pelvis. This increases the chance of painful twisting of your ovary, called ovarian torsion. Rupture. A cyst that ruptures may cause severe pain and lead to internal bleeding. Tips for maintaining a healthy weight with PCOS There is no specific diet that can prevent or treat PCOS. However, eating well and being active can help manage some of long term complications of PCOS. The good news is that losing anywhere from 5 to 10 percent of your body weight can help with weight-related health problems. The best eating plan if you have PCOS is one that helps you manage your weight and also lower the long term risks of diabetes and heart disease. This plan should be low in saturated fat and high in fibre. Start by making healthy food choices following Canada's Food Guide. Choose better fats: Too much saturated and trans fat in the diet can lead to weight gain, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Limit foods that contain saturated and trans fats. Instead of these bad fats, choose smaller amounts of healthy unsaturated fats, which are found in vegetable oils like canola and olive oil, avocado and nuts. Aim for a total of 30 to 45mL (2 to 3 Tbsp) of healthy fats each day. You can learn more about choosing healthy fats here. Increase fibre: Eating more fibre can help maintain blood sugar levels and lower your cholesterol. Plus, fibre helps make you feel full, so you tend to eat less. This can help with weight control. Aim for 21 to 25 grams per day. Here are some high fibre foods to try: Fruit – especially berries, pears, oranges, figs, kiwi Vegetables – especially peas, spinach, squash and broccoli Whole grains – such as oats, brown rice, whole wheat, quinoa, barley and buckwheat Legumes – such as lentils, chickpeas, soybeans and kidney beans Cereals made with wheat bran, psyllium or whole grain oats Nuts and seeds – such as almonds, flax, sunflower seeds Enjoy protein: Similar to fibre, protein also helps you feel full for longer, so you will eat less. This is a great way to help control your weight. Make sure that you have some protein at every meal and snack like chicken, turkey, beef or fish. Or, try vegetarian options such as legumes, soy or a quarter cup of nuts or seeds. Milk and low fat yogurt are also good sources of protein. Foods to limit: Some foods cause weight gain if you eat them often. Choose fewer foods that are high in sugar, salt, refined flour and fat such as: White rice, pasta or bread Baked goods Regular soda Candy and chocolate and Salty snacks

As a couple if you need continued contraception for one year, you should consult a gynaecologist. A most effective and safe contraceptive method can be advised only after a detailed history of the partners. As regards the present situation, delayed periods can be a sign of pregnancy. Do a urine pregnancy test at home. If positive consult a gynecologist without delay.

Yes sex can be practice during pregnancy in the last month as well. One needs to change the position of male partner. Intercourse can be practised in male standing position or sideways position. Male partner should not lie on the tummy or growing fetus.

I pills to take once in a while is ok but you should not take it frequently. It will disturb your menstrual cycle. You will not be able to predict when your periods will come. Rather, you start taking contraceptive pills daily one starting from 5th day of menses to avoid pregnancy.

Hey i'm a 17 years old virgin guy. My girlfriend and I've just decided to have sex but there is a lot to worry. We want to minimise the risk of pregnancy as far as possible. Is the pull and pray method something to rely upon? Can I wash my penis before sex to remove the dirt or precum and then remove my penis from her when I'm about to ejaculate?

MD
Yoga & Naturopathy Specialist, Delhi
You are only 17. It is not right to indulge in premarital sex. You should instead concentrate on your studies and career. If you are really a friend of your girl friend do not break her virginity before marriage because she may have to face some problems if she ultimately has to marry some one other that you. Remember, such relationships at this age do change with maturity. Here I presume that you do not have any marriage plans for at least 7-8 years. That is a long period of time.

6 Ways to Keep Yourself Energised All Day Long

6 Ways to Keep Yourself Energised All Day Long

All of us have our 'good hours' and 'bad hours' each day. While there are the night owls, who are more productive and ideating in the late night hours, there are others who like to be the early bird that literally catches the worm.  For both these categories, there are again hours where the energy wanes. Did you know there are some simple techniques that can help to maintain consistent levels of energy throughout the day?

As much as possible, try and maintain a regular routine in terms of waking up, eating at the same hours as closely as possible, and retiring for the day. The biological clock or circadian rhythm needs to be maintained as much as possible if high productivity is desired. Here are some things that can be completely and easily controlled to keep your energy levels steady through the day.

  1. Sleep patterns: Be it going to bed or waking up, try and maintain a pattern that does not vary too much, at least not drastically.  After waking up, a good dose of light in the morning is very helpful. If your work requires you to sleep during the day, ensure you get up into a room that is well and brightly lit.
  2. Exercise: Whether is it Saturday or cloudy, a 30 minute workout does magic like nothing else. Get outdoors and be it a walk or a run, cycling or swimming, you will see nothing else boosts your energy as well as this.
  3. Nutrition: Reduced carbohydrates, a good dose of protein, ample hydration, adequate fiber intake, and good quantity of dry fruits are somethings to definitely follow. Start with a good breakfast that can boost your energy requirements for the day and eat less as the day goes by.
  4. Caffeine: One of the most pleasant experience is to wake up to have a refreshing cup of coffee. While it sounds exotic, the body benefits more if this caffeine is provided sometime later in the day when the energy levels are low.
  5. Alcohol: For many, alcohol could be a way of stress busting, but if scientifically looked at, alcohol reduces the quality of sleep and leaves you feeling unrested. It also leaves one tired and irritated. If possible, the alcohol intake should be at least 2 hours before bedtime.
  6. Power naps: Highly proven technique, where possible, a power nap of 15 minutes is believed to boost up energy levels significantly.

These are some methods to boost your energy levels.  Most of it something completely controllable and changeable by you, all it requires is a conscious effort from you.

Hello Lybrate User, Having an irregular cycle means that the interval between periods varies each month. That is, sometimes they come every 28 days, sometimes every 20, sometimes every 30. Having irregular periods is very common. Most common causes of the irregular periods are, hormonal imbalance, such as thyroid malfunctions, problems with the pelvic organs, such as polycystic ovarian syndrome, stress, anxiety and emotional problems, eating disorders, like anorexia, excessive weight gain or weight loss, drugs like birth control pills can affect the frequency and / or intensity of menstruation, other diseases including STDs, diabetes, fibroids and endometriosis are the reasons behind irregular periods. Take homeopathic treatment for irregular menses, there are lot of homeopathic remedies which are completely & permanently cured by homeopathy without any side effects. These remedies can be used safely without any fear or worry of side effects. Along with follow this preventive measures, * Stress management such as doing meditation, yoga. * Avoid over exercising. * Try not to diet excessively. Position important nahi hai jahan tak aadmi ka semen vagina me jata hai. Ek mahine me hi pregnancy chahiye voh jyada se jyada test tube beby me hai vo bhi 40 %. Pregnancy rakhne me dhiraj chahiye kyon ki ek hi din mahine me chance hota hai. Aapke ke cycle ke hisab se kabhi vo apne gynaecologist ko pucho. Aur kuch bhi jarurart hai ki nahi vo gynaecologist kah sakta hai agar dono unke paas jao to.
