I am 52 years old. I got one ligament damaged in both legs knee. My left shortened by 3/4" due to gun shot injury. Presently I am feeling my shoulders and neck being jaam gradually. Perhaps this is symptums of survical spondolitis. I am suffering from osteo arthiritis. Since my child hood I am facing constipation and gastro problems. I am doing some physical activity to keep myself fit in my agricultural fields. More over I use to play volly ball regularly. I reduced my weight from 90 to 74 kg. My height is 5'8" (170 cm). What I should do.

Hello, I understand your concern. Neck stiffness, shoulder stiffness, neck pain these are all due to cervical spondylosis. This is a age related disorder common in old age. For this problem I suggest you to consult a physiotherapist who will teach you some exercises which will help you to reduce the stiffness of neck and shoulder. Additionally, you can take tab. Zerodol-mr 1 tab whenever needed. Osteoarthritis is again a different problem to deal with. As it is a degenerative diaease of joint it is difficult to treat with medication. I really appreciate what you are doing, i. E, weight loss, playing volleyball, working field. All these help you to reduce pain. Additionally, you can try some stretching exercise of joints. Ex. Yoga. Tha tablet which I have mentioned above will also help you to reduce the pain from osteoarthritis. Constipation and gastric problem: try to increase fibre content in your food. Add green leafy vegetables. Drink plenty of water. Drink luke warm water as soon as you get up. This will stimulate the gut. Try to develop a habit og going to toilet at the same time daily. This will help your body to get adjust to that time. For gastric problem, you might be already taking some medication. Additionally, avoid tea coffee, spicy food. Take care. It might be of muscle strain or of pathological reasons do take ust and laser therapy for pain relief for 7 days followed by strengthening and stretching exercises from physiotherapist best wishes.

Hi. At this age, there may be some degenerative changes to the knee joint. You should be very careful about that. It may be early sign of repetitive stress injury or you can call it arthritis of knee joint. Start hot fomentation over your knees if it were not injured by mistake. Otherwise if there is swelling over knee, you can take ice pack over there thrice a day. Start gentle stretching exercises for knee and isometric exercise for quadriceps. Thanks.

Do exercise like yoga and others. Eat more than before. Do not skip meals. Avoid fast foods as far as possible. Use extra refined foods with unrefined. Use dense fruits, vegetables. Eat extra fish, egg, milk, meat to gain weight. Use extra healthy fats in cooking. Avoid smoking, alcohol. Take sleep for 7-8 hours. These are basic but for more quick and guaranteed result consult me privately on lybrate.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Turn Your Back To Backache With These Healthy Habits

Backache is an affliction that almost 80% of the population suffers from. It’s the most common problem that plagues society nowadays because of the sedentary lifestyle people have taken to actively. It is caused due to a series of problems mostly because of years of feeding your bad posture, or lifting heavy weights, slouching and other such hazardous lifestyle choices. Other issues that lead to backache include medical problems like pregnancy, arthritis and even osteoporosis. It can also be a result of some long-standing injury to the spine or back that never healed properly.

However, people have to live as they are with backaches, the best they can, choosing medication and other such temporary reliefs. Here are a few ways in which you can regulate your lifestyle and choose healthier habits to slowly but surely cure your backaches.

  1. Exercise: Exercise is a very effective way to keep backaches at bay. But it needs to be moderated and performed carefully. No heavy lifting or any work that requires slouching over and or bending down low for long periods of time. Things like walking and yoga help keep the spine straight and require calculated movements and are very good for your back.
  2. Resting: When you are sleeping, check that you are in a comfortable position, but try not to adopt a sleeping position that is harmful to you. If you wake up in the morning with an aching body, it probably means the mattress you are sleeping on isn’t right for you. A good night’s rest should get you relaxed and feeling refreshed. Which in turn alleviates your backache. Not resting well can elevate your backache Add pillows to hold the existing curve of your spine in place.
  3. Temperature: Applying cold packs or hot compress to the affected area is also an effective way to reduce the pain that comes with backaches. Doctors usually suggest using ice first to lower the swelling and then applying heat as and when required. Either of these methods will work just as well.
  4. Weight: You need to maintain a healthy weight to ensure that your backache does not worsen. Your back helps in pulling the weight of your body and if it is beyond a certain limit the back is not equipped to handle the burden and may give out or start aching continuously. To get to the weight that is required by your height, consult a dietician.
  5. Water: Physiotherapists often recommend using water exercises in lukewarm pools as a treatment. The buoyant nature of water helps with the stress in the muscles and the warmth of the water helps in decreasing the pain.
