The problem is not with milk but the way you are feeding. Avoid bottle feeding & give milk with katori spoon along with semisolid foods at regulr intervals. Take care of hygeine in feeding, cleaning always. May give antivomiting medicine if needed.

Poops in 2-3 days is not abnormal if stool is not too hard to pass, Give him fibrous diet and good quantity of water to drink. Train him for toileting practice by encouraging to make him sit daily or twice in a day on pot for some time.

Have a look at our sample meal plan for a one-year-old vegetarian toddler. It will help you feed your child a healthy and balanced diet to ensure that he gets all the vital nutrients he needs to grow well When planning your child's menu, remember that cholesterol and other fats are very important for his or her normal growth and development, so they should not be restricted during this period. If you keep your child's caloric intake at about 1,000 calories a day, you shouldn't have to worry about overfeeding and putting him or her at risk of gaining too much weight. See the following sample menu ideas for a one-year-old. Note: These menu ideas are intended for a one-year-old child who weighs approximately 21 pounds (9.5 kg). 1 teaspoon = 1/3 tablespoon (5 mL) 1 tablespoon = ½ ounce (15 mL) 1 cup = 8 ounces (240 mL) 1 oz = 30 mL Breakfast •½ cup iron- fortified breakfast cereal or 1 cooked egg •¼ –½ cup whole milk (with cereal or without) Fruit can be added to cereal or on its own •½ banana, sliced •2–3 large sliced strawberries Snack •1 slice toast or whole wheat muffin with 1–2 tablespoons cream cheese or peanut butter, or yogurt with cut-up fruit •½ cup whole milk Lunch •½ sandwich sliced turkey or chicken, tuna, egg salad, or peanut butter •½ cup cooked green vegetables •½ cup whole milk Snack •1–2 ounces cubed or string cheese, or 2–3 tablespoons fruit or berries •1 cup whole milk Dinner •2–3 ounces cooked meat, ground or diced •½ cup cooked yellow or orange vegetables •½ cup pasta, rice, or potato •½ cup whole milk Additional Information on HealthyChildren. Pediatrician,
I have a 15 days child and I'm unable to feed her Please suggest some medicines for lactations.
Lactation is associated with mother's health, diet and mental health. So first of all take proper rest, take healthy balance diet, take more milk and do not get tense (it may reduce your milk production). Give only breast milk to child upto 6 month. You can take ayurvedic product marketed as tab. Laptadin or Galact granules for improve lactation.

What to Expect From Your Baby in the Womb?

Panchkula & Delhi
Mother and Child Care, Panchkula
What to Expect From Your Baby in the Womb?

Congratulations, that your Urine pregnancy test is positive and white stork will be visiting you soon! So it's your fourth week and you are advised an ultrasound in the coming week. With all the questions coming in your mind on what to expect from the ultrasound in regards to a normal pregnancy, I am here to help you month-wise. (Know more about dietary facts in pregnancy)

In the First Month (Learn more about First Trimester)

On ultrasound you will see the pregnancy sac and the doctor would describe the same as the womb-pregnancy sac. This highlights that the pregnancy is not ectopic (pregnancy outside the womb).Cheers! You will be called again a week or two later to see the further developments of the baby.

In the Second Month

On ultrasound you can now see a fetal node and the doctor makes you hear a typical galloping horse like sound-that's the fetal heart beat- the heart beat of your baby. You can also see a small ring like structure in the pregnancy sac which is yolk sac. It takes care in terms of nutrition until the placenta is formed

In the Third Month

You are asked to give your Dual test- a blood test which tests for hormones like B hcg and PAPP-A which indirectly indicate whether the baby has chromosomal abnormalities or risk of growth restriction later on. You will be told to have an 11-13 weeks scan .In this scan ,markers for chromosomal abnormalities like Nasal bone, Nuchal; translucency(fluid behind the neck) ,blood flow through the liver(Ductus venosus) , Tricuspid regurgitation along with Length of the baby and heart rate will be studied .During the ultrasound you will be shown the structure of the baby from head to toe. At the end you will be counselled whether you are a low risk or high risk for getting a baby with chromosomal abnormalities(especially Down Syndrome).

And if all is well you are called for the next scan at 5th month.

In the Fifth Month

This is the anomaly scan or Level 2 scan. You will notice your baby has grown significantly since you last saw. The doctor will see the structure of the baby including the brain and heart .The location of your placenta will also be reported. It you have a quadruple test/ triple test ,the results will be interpreted and explained.

If its a thumbs up, you are advised to follow up with your obstetrician and come for an ultrasound at 8th month if everything continues to be as expected.

In the Eighth Month

This scan checks the growth of the baby and the fluid around it. The medical experts check the blood flow through the essential structures like the brain, liver and umbilcal cor (fetal Dopplers ). The same is done to reassure you or decide further management. In some cases , this scan may be pre-pond starting at 7th month.

3D/4D Ultrasound

If along with the expertise, there is a high end ultrasound machine , you get a chance to see your baby moving/dancing/thumb-sucking in 4 dimensions. You and your hubby will surely fight over the nosy -its alike yours or your hubby's! And the experience is awesome and ever cherishing.

Hi, my Sister went for an anomaly scan and the doctor said that the baby has "unossified nasal bone" We are really concerned and would like to know what are the chances of the baby having a down syndrome?

Hi, thank you for the question. The unossified nasal bone seen on a scan in second trimester of pregnancy is seen 6 times more commonly in fetuses with Down syndrome as compared to normal fetuses. This likelihood is not same when unossified nasal bone is seen in first trimester only, in case of which we repeat scan in second trimester. Considering that your sister went for an anomaly scan, I presume that she is in at least 18th week of her pregnancy and hence the second trimester. As a result of the above reason, it is definitely suggested for your sister to undergo confirmatory testing for Down syndrome by Amniocentesis and fetal Karyotype. At the same time, it is not necessary that a fetus with unossified nasal bone definitely has Down syndrome. Hence, no decision should be taken without confirmatory testing.

My daughter is 6 years old and for last 1 week she is having one big boil on her left forehead and in some parts of head along with lower part of left eye having boils and swelling. We are cleaning it with warm water and twice we are putting Himalaya eye drops twice a day. But the boil is in puss formation on her forehead. Please suggest medical reason and cure. Could it be because she ate mangoes during this summer month or probably because of excessive rising temperature of this summer?

PhD in Alternative Medicine
Alternative Medicine Specialist,
If she likes mangoes then give mangoshakes instead of mangoes. Like mango lassi, mango cold coffee. Don't touch boil will dry after some times if pus is there go to skin specalist near by your home as pus causes infection n pain.

How to Deal With Trauma in Your Child's Life?

How to Deal With Trauma in Your Child's Life?

From terrorism to natural disasters, there are a number of traumatic events that constantly hurl themselves at us. Given the amount of stress it causes an adult, imagine how a child can process this information. Often traumatic events that occur in childhood can trigger phobias and anxiety disorders that last a lifetime if not dealt correctly.

Each child responds to trauma in a different way depending on the circumstances and their age and personality. What is common is that all children turn towards their parents and teachers for support in these situations. Hence, it is important to understand how to help your child deal with traumatic events.

Here are a few steps you should follow:

  1. Provide comfort: The first thing to do in a traumatic event is to reassure and comfort the child. Reinforce your child's sense of security by following a normal schedule and maintaining regular eating and sleeping habits. Encourage your child to talk and ask questions and discuss the situation with them in a way appropriate to your child's age and concerns.
  2. Accept their needs: Children show the need for reassurance in different ways. For some, it may be the need for extra physical contact in the form of hugs while for others it may be ensuring that their favourite teddy bear is with them constantly. Be patient with children and indulge their needs in such situations.
  3. Limit the amount of information available: Media often magnifies a traumatic event making it all the more difficult for a child to apprehend. Children can often be mislead or frustrated by media coverage of a traumatic event. Thus, it is a good idea to limit the use of television, radios and internet. As far as possible do not let your child watch the news alone.
  4. Stay in touch: If your child goes to school, his or her teacher is the parent figure at school. Stay connected with your child's teachers and the other adults in their life to monitor changes in behavioral patterns.
  5. Create distractions: If left alone with nothing to do, a child's mind will dwell on the trauma. Encourage them to find a hobby to cope with the negative emotions. Music and art are two good outlets for stress. You could also play board games, read or play outdoors to distract them.
  6. Get professional help: Sometimes you may need help to deal with a traumatic event in your child's life. If your child shows signs of behavioral changes, academic problems, emotional outbursts, anxiety, depression, insomnia or social withdrawal; you should consult a professional counselor.

I had unprotected intercourse with my wife. We have 3 month old baby. Baby is with only mother milk till now. She is getting periods on irregular basis. She took contraceptive pill (I-pill). Now production of milk from breast has become low and baby is falling short of milk. Can we go for other alternative food now for the baby or is there any chance to increase breast milk.

MD - Paediatrics, Lactation Consultant
Pediatrician, Ahmedabad
Hello lybrate-user. Regards. It is quite common to have dip in milk supply after hormonal contraceptive. But that dip is transient. It is not advisable to start formula if otherwise she is making enough milk. You can ask her to feed frequently and to feed from both breast in a single session also to take adequate balanced diet and plenty oral fluids. All this will help to increase supply. She can also take certain medications and herbs known to increase supply. My advice will be to consult a lactation consultant before starting formula. Hope this helps you. I am lactation consultant and Pediatrician too. I do online consults too. Have a nice day.

It is nice that you r aware of importance of breast feeding. Take care that baby is sucking well while on breast and it is not only nipple in mouth but areola, a blackish area around nipple, is in mouth. It is usual reason, look for it. Continue exclusive breastfeeding. If you have mentioned your criteria for assessing baby's hunger n his birth n present wt, it had been better to advise further. If you feel so, you may consult privately with this link through Lybrate.
