Gas or flatulence is a condition where the microorganisms present in the intestines break down the food and release excessive gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, which is usually let out from the anus. It can lead to pain in the stomach and an uneasy feeling in the body.

Causes:

  1. When foods that are not digested properly are broken down
  2. Lactose intolerance
  3. Swallowing air
  4. Certain foods not being absorbed properly in the digestive system
  5. When a child does other activities, while eating, then it can cause gas to accumulate air in the intestines leading to gas
  6. The sweeteners present in chewing gums can get trapped in the intestines and ferment into gas
  7. Vegetables such as cauliflower and broccoli can cause gas
  8. Soft drinks that cause phosphoric acid can also lead to gas
  9. Some children are sensitive to fat and fiber, and consuming these nutrients can lead to gas

The symptoms of gas pain in children are cramps in the stomach region along with diarrhea. It can also lead to irregular eating, being fussy about food and pulling up the legs to the belly.

Treatments and preventive measures:

  1. Consuming food containing probiotics such as yoghurt and soy can help in treating gas
  2. Eliminating vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower from your child's diet
  3. Decreasing the amount of milk in the diet
  4. Limiting consumption of chewing gums as they contain artificial sweeteners , which cause gas
  5. A hot drink such as tea made from herbs like peppermint can help in easing the symptoms of gas
  6. Encouraging your child to exercise can help in preventing gas
  7. Getting your child to drink water in proper amounts
  8. Consuming a healthy diet of vegetables and fruits

As there are numerous causes of headache like tension type headache, hypertension, migraine, hypoglycaemia, refractive errors, organic brain lesions, sinusitis so get yourself properly examined for all these conditions. In case of acute pain take tablet brufen sos for symptomatic relief.

Hi, recently been to a massage parlour, had a nude body to body massage, we kissed, we hugged with no clothes, during hug our genitals might have touched. I kissed her upper and lower genitals, she gave me a hand job, we did not have intercourse. I am not aware of her hiv status I am worried now. please suggest I did HIV 1+O/2 Antibodies & HIV 1 p24 Antigen test after 3 days of exposure, its non reactive. But I am still tensed.

no you don't have to worry much since you did not have sexual penetration by way of ontercourse. but one thing you should remember for future references that while kissing and mooching the sexual part of an infected HIV partner there should not be any in jury or cut in the mucous membranes of your mouth PR private part then there are chances of getting infected.

If Fever comes regularly for 7 to 8 day it may be typhoid fever. Symptoms of typhoid fever :- 1). high grade fever temp. Up to 104 degree , 2).headache, 3).abdominal pain, 4). either constipation or diarrhea.

Dear Lybrateuser, -To shape up your chest & build muscles you have to do aerobic exercises like jogging, swimming for 30-40 min, do moderate weight lifting at least two times a week, do push ups, pull ups on alternate days -include protein rich foods in your diet like eggs, milk & milk products like cheese, paneer, yogurt, butter milk, soyabeans & soya products, non-veg like seafood, chicken, legumes, peas, nuts like almonds, walnuts, pistachios, peanuts -combine carbohydrates with the above mentioned proteins, also can have a protein snack in between meals like yogurt, chicken sandwich, sprouts, nuts.

Why drastic deficiency of vitamin d is becoming increasingly common among urban Indian youth?

On this women's day, let's understand why young Indians esp. Are women facing this unforeseen deficiency and resultant problems?

Vitamin d is unique because it can be made in the skin from exposure to sunlight. We get a really good amount of sunny days as opposed to many western and northern countries where vitamin d deficiency is ought to be common.

It is surprising that vitamin d deficiency is such a common problem in India nowadays that it finds prevalence among 70-100 percent of the general population in the country. More than 80.63 percent of 73 lakh Indian youth suffer from the deficiency of vitamin d. What's more shocking is that it can lead to a variety of health issues ranging from osteoporosis to diabetes. Without vitamin d, only 10-15% of dietary calcium and about 60% of phosphorus are absorbed - which would certainly lead to weaker bones. Vitamin d sufficiency enhances calcium and phosphorus absorption by 30-40% and 80%, respectively.

Vitamin d exists in two forms - vitamin d2 and d3. Uv rays from the sun hit the skin, and vitamin d3 is naturally synthesized, so it is the most 'natural' form. However, our bodies do not make vitamin d2, and most oil-rich fish such as salmon, mackerel, and herring and eggs contain vitamin d3.

Here are a few reasons why deficiency of vitamin d is becoming increasingly common among urban Indian youth.

1. Being always indoors

Our youth is never out in the sun because they are too occupied with their laptops or video games. Their lifestyle is such that it does not allow them to spend some good time out in the sun, which is a major source of vitamin d for the body. Technological advancement and cut-throat competition have made the youth forget the sun as a source of a healthy dose of vitamin d.

2. No milk, no fish

A lot of Indian youth follow a strictly vegetarian dietary regimen and they avoid milk very commonly. Vitamin d is found in foods like fish, egg yolks, fish liver oils etc. And not consuming them is a major reason why youth face vitamin d deficiency.

In fact certain, distinct symptoms can help you know if you're suffering from vitamin d deficiency or not.

You need to keep an eye out for these:

- excessive sweating without indulging in physical activities or being exposed to high temperatures

- sudden bouts of weakness for no apparent reason

- brittle bones that break easily

- chronic pain in your brains

- feeling of depression

Women with pcos (polycystic ovarian syndrome), are researched to be at a greater risk for heart diseases, obesity, diabetes and infertility.

A few dietary guidelines to combat pcos 

Try to select lower glycemic index foods such as whole grains (jowar, bajra, whole wheat, green vegetables, etc) as they will cause a slower rise in blood sugar levels. For example, oat flakes or wheat daliah (10 gm fiber/1/2 cup) has a lower glycemic index than cornflakes (1 gm fiber/1/2 cup. Simply put, add fiber in your diet by selecting wheat breads over white breads, wheat rotis over rice or maida naans, fresh fruits over fruit juices.

Do cut down your carbohydrate levels so low that you induce ketosis. Try to space the carbohydrates evenly through the day and eat small and frequent meals rather than 3 large meals.

Restrict intake of those carbohydrates that trigger more hunger or cravings (i. E. Refined sugar, sweets, candies or chocolates which triggers craving for some people). Choose dates or honey to meet your sugar cravings.

Suggested vitamin/ mineral supplements: taking calcium 1000 mg - 1500 mg (take two - three 500 mg pills a day as prescribed but be sure to space them out as you can only absorb 500 mg at a time). You may also add a multivitamin with minerals like folic acid, especially so, if you are trying to get pregnant.

Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day as a high fiber carbohydrate intake can cause dehydration.

For heart health, limit foods high in saturated and trans-fats (i. E, whole milk and products, butter, red meat, fried foods, rich desserts, etc.). Select mainly monounsaturated fats (i. E. Olive oil, canola oil, nuts) and omega 3 fats -fatty fish (such as bangda, rohu, sardines, and surmai), flaxseed, and nuts as these fats are heart friendly. Exercise on a regular basis to lose weight and improve insulin response.

t2 diabetes is a preventable disease, (one which normally seen occurring adults or older aged persons. But certain precautions need to taken -like regular exercise for more than 1 h a day, maintaining near normal weight (ideal body weight = height in cms - 100 x 0.9 = wt in kgs), avoiding sweets, direct sugar, deep fried foods. Also important to follow strict dietary schedule. Plus avoid smoking and alcohol. If all these life style modifications are adhered to then it is possible to avoid the risk of diabetes.

Chickenguniya causes severe weakness of muscles and it lasts for a year or two. There is no medication. Eat plenty of fresh fruits, drink excess water and wait. It will vanish without medicines. Don't worry.
