Is weed smoking is really injurious to health?

PhD (Psychology), MSc Psychology, MS
Psychologist,
Dear, Weed and Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If you?re ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse?no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn?t easy. But it?s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Take care.

I am an introvert guy. But want to talk to people but i'm not able to do that. How can I become extrovert?

MBBS, MD (AIIMS, Gold Medalist), Diploma in CBT (Glasgow)
Psychiatrist, Delhi
I am an introvert guy. But want to talk to people but i'm not able to do that. How can I become extrovert?
Your intrinsic nature of being an introvert cannot be completely altered and there is no need to do so because being an introvert has several advantages. But, the disadvantages of being an introvert can be modified, thus getting benefits of both worlds. This is generally done by way of intensive psychotherapy. Medicines may help to some extent. If you are really keen on this and willing to put in effort and time, you can get back to me on this. Take care!

I am suffering anxiety disorder from last 10 month so what should I do for it and how long it take and cure.

Masters in Clinical Psychology
Psychologist, Lucknow
I am suffering anxiety disorder from last 10 month so what should I do for it and how long it take and cure.
Hi lybrate-user, first of all I would like to tell you, that in anxiety there is a role of both medication and psychotherapy to cure oneself fully. You will have to continue medication for a year or so as suggested by the doctor, do not leave the course in between or you will elapse and again start having the symptom. For, psychotherapy you can consult a psychologist online, it is important to treat the anxiety from root. While everyone struggles with fears daily, in the case of anxiety, these fears significantly affect a person's ability to function at work, in school, or in relationships. Having an anxiety disorder can feel hopeless, but there are ways to help. Practice deep breathing. Imagine your stomach as a balloon. Inhale fully and deeply through your nose, feeling your stomach expanding. Then, exhale, gradually allowing your stomach to collapse. You can perform deep breathing exercises during a panic attack or frequently throughout the day to reduce stress and fend off anxious feelings. 20 to 30 minutes of deep breathing daily is ideal. Reciting a script in your head like" I am safe. Or" I am perfectly calm. May help. Train yourself to be calm with meditation or yoga. Daily engagement in calming activities can help you rid yourself of anxiety or keep these feelings under control. Meditation involves mindfully clearing your mind of fears or worries and focusing on cleansing, relaxing breaths. Yoga incorporates stretching and body positions called asanas with meditation and breathing techniques for a full-body calm. Look up meditation for beginners or online or sign up for a yoga class at a fitness studio near you. Eat several balanced meals per day. Anxiety can be exacerbated by not taking care of your body. Have a healthy, balanced meal of lean protein, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy several times a day (i. E. Between 3 and 5 meals daily)[18]. Plus, keep energizing snacks like fresh veggies, fruit, and nuts on hand to fuel your body in between meals. Eat foods high in healthy fatty acids like salmon and avocado in addition to complex carbohydrates such as whole grain oats and brown rice to manage anxiety naturally. Avoid caffeine and alcohol. These substances can actually make anxiety worse. Both alcohol and caffeine can make you edgy and interfere with your sleep cycle. Engage in regular physical activity that matches your abilities. This can include walking your dog through the park or a more vigorous exercise regimen such as high-intensity interval training. Research shows that regular exercise provides mood-enhancing endorphins that not only help build self-esteem but take your mind off what's making you anxious. In order to be sure that you stick to a routine of regular physical activity, it's best to sample a variety of activities and rotate between a few that you enjoy the most. For example, you might like participating in group sports most. However, you might also enjoy swimming for when you do not have a group of people with whom you can play. Always speak to your doctor before starting a new fitness regimen. All the best.

I love someone. That person also loves me or loved me. We were together for 7 yrs. Now i feel like he s changed. Words say something and feeling say something else. Doesn't give importance like before. Because of the behaviour i am hurt i get mood swings. I want to overcome this. But i don't know what i can do. I tried avoidin but i am not able to. Please help?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Do not avoid this situation. If you perceive this development, talk to him openly and find out as to what is happening with him. These seven years should have been spent in building the union. Since that is not what is happening, may be you have done everything that was meant for marriage and the relationship has become stale and not so exciting. Relationships must be worked on always and little interesting things must be introduced to spice it up. Staleness will creep in easily, and one or the other will get bored. If there is nothing more to explore in this relationship, then that could be the end and the signs are showing. You should not force a relationship to work ? there must be things in the relationship that excite each of you. Women are very intuitive but your interpretation may be all wrong. The disconnect between what is said and the feeling is a good pickup and must be discussed. Instead of speculating any more talk to him and find out the truth and then act accordingly. Remember, both of you must want this relationship, only then there is scope and hope.

OCD is a fear-based disorder and so if you identify the fear and learn to deal with it appropriately, you could look at recovering from this. However, therapy is needed and so you should meet with a counselor. Smoking is very bad for you for many reasons. So you should ideally quit it soon.

I have depression due to my exams that is going on and the medical exam. So how can I avoid it?
Loss of interest, decreased concentration and attention, feeling low and disturbed sleep or appetite are some of the signs of depression. Consult a psychiatrist who will assess you in detail. If you are feeling suicidal or hopeless, seek professional help immediately. Try some relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation and deep breathing. Indulge in hobbies. Spend time with people close to you.

Hi. First, learn to relax your mind! Taking unnecessary tension will stop your brain from functioning normally and it would never ever give you solution to your problem! Homoeopathic medicines are very effective for increasing concentration and if done with yoga, will give you great results! But practice the following poses if you don’t have any medical condition or pregnancy or else take an advice from your concern doctor and then only perform these. 1. Shashankasana: Sit in Vajrasana with hands on the thighs. The upper body is straight and relaxed. Inhaling raise both arms above the head. Exhaling keep the back straight and bend upper body and arms forward from the hips, until arms and forehead touch the floor. The buttocks remain on the heels. Breathing normally remain in this position for a while. Relax the whole body, especially the shoulders, neck and back. Inhaling keep the back straight and raise the upper body and arms. Exhaling return to the starting position. Practice the exercise 3 times in total. Remain bending forward for sometime and consciously perceive the movement of the breath on the spine. 2. Virasana: Sit in Vajrasana. Hands rest on the thighs and the body is relaxed. Bring the left foot beside the right knee with the sole of the foot flat on the floor. Place the left elbow on the left knee and rest the chin in the hand. Right hand rests on the right thigh. Tuck the toes of the right foot under. The right knee remains in contact with the floor. Transfer the weight onto the right heel. Concentrate on a fixed point in front. Breathing normally remain in this position for as long as comfortable. Return to the starting position. Repeat on the other side. 3. Sit in Vajrasana. Body is straight and hands rest on the thighs. Relax the whole body. Inhaling stretch the arms above the head, then bring them behind the back and grasp the left wrist with the right hand. Exhaling bend the body forward from the hips, keeping the back straight, until the forehead touches the floor. The buttocks remain on the heels. Breathing normally concentrate on the whole body and relax. Remain in this position for as long as comfortable. Inhaling slowly bring the body upright. At the same time stretch the arms above the head. Exhaling return to the starting position. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine - Anacardium 200/ once daily.

Sir. I have a habit of cigarette. I puff at least 6 cigarettes in a day. please give me the suggestions to leave that one. Thanks.

BHMS
Homeopath,
Dear lybrate user, you may need a bit of willpower to stop smoking permanently. You could easily abstain yourself from smoking during the initial 2-3 days. But after few days of abstaining from smoking you will feel a strong craving to smoke a cigarette whenever you face any tense situation. Here lies your real test. You will need a lot of willpower to resist that craving & face any tense situation without the help of nicotine. However, you can take homoeopathic mother tincture daphne indica q, 30 drops, thrice daily, after meals, in a cup of water. This medicine will help to reduce your craving for nicotine. To minimise the bad-effects of smoking take one single bulb garlic everyday at morning before brushing your teeth.

I can understand your distress due to strained relationship. It sounds almost like a break-up which is very painful, but you are not alone. Numerous people in our present society undergo such kind of experiences because more and more women are entering the work force and like to earn money to live more independantly. There is nothing wrong in it. But some of them are unable to maintain a work-life balance and there begins the problem. I understand that you are possessive toward your wife and also expect her to be a traditional wife, i. E. Taking care of the husband, children and the home. But you have to accept that time has changed, life has changed and your wife has changed. You have to also accept the fact that anything or anybody dear to us is subject to change, separate, decay and die. Your children will be the worst affected ones if you stay in this state. Neglecting or treating disrespectfully the parents of a husband is very common in our country. Just ignore it. I suggest you to take your wife (compulsively) to a distant place as a fun trip (of course without the business phone) at least for five days. You try to express your state of mind and the pains you are undergoing and also your very love when she is in a relaxed mood. If you succed in this attempt, I hope, there will be a drastic change in her behaviour. Get more involved in your children, this will give you relaxation and also bring a meaning for your life. Lets hope for the best.

When our mind is hooked into past it is normal to have lot of negative thoughts and in turn feeling low. The good news is that our mind could be wired to switch back to positive things and resilience building. We have immense potential within us and we could tap into those one step at a time, one day at a time. When things does not happen as we wish or people do not behave as we expect that is when out of disappointment, frustration, loneliness, anger, sadness. Etc we react and our mind starts thinking negative thoughts. Changing this pattern of responding to stressful situation requires both persistence and patience. Also you will only be able to work on this out of love and kindness towards you. Strong motivation will go a long way. Writing a statement about how would you want to respond in a similar situation and how will your life and your happiness will change if you do learn to manage your stress and how to respond to it. Once that is clear. Try following things to learn relaxation response which leads to better coping mechanism on a daily basis. To begin with doing guided progressive muscular relaxation before sleeping will help you relax. I would also suggest you to take a multiple small break to take 3 nice and deep breath while keeping your eyes closed. You could do this while sitting or standing or while even walking or climbing stairs (keep your eyes open in that case). When you take a nice and deep break there is actual physiological change in your body. This will help you to activate parasympathetic nervous system which promotes relaxation and helps you calm down and think more clearly. This will also actually improve your performance in your work. Along with this exercise is one of the best way to relive stress and stay fit. Engage in any kind of physical activity at least 4 times a week. This also helps in stress reduction. Along with this some relaxation exercises as well as engaging in joyful activities such as music, singing, dancing, reading, being in nature, gardening, talking with friends or anything which you enjoy will help reducing stress and rejuvenation of your mind and body. Have good routine for sleep and eating. Lot of research has now proven that sugar is very harmful for our health. Reduce sugar and refined white floor in your diet as much as you could. Along with this also increase consumption of raw vegetables in the form of salad in both the meals of your day.

At your age when you are probably working also, it is hard to focus on studies. It's alright. 1. Study before tasks that you cannot avoid doing. 2. Try looking for some youtube videos regarding what you need to study. 3. Find a student of the same course, whom you can teach- at times you may find it difficult to study for yourself, but easy when you have to teach someone else. Try these and let me know how these tips worked for you.

Dear, memory and mind power consists of understanding, storing and recollection of information you learn. Understanding depends on concentration. The more creative you are on doing tasks or reading, the more you understand. Storage and recollection depends on your understanding and how well you review what you have learned. Repetition and review of material learned and other tasks provides easy recollection. You can improve your concentration and total brain power with the help of green leafy vegetables, exercise, creative activities, number puzzles like sudoku etc. Hard work is the key to learning and recollection. Post a private question to me and I shall provide you more tips. Take care.

You can try the following 3 practices to reduce the frequency of negative thouts. 1. Whenever you come to know that there is a negative thought running in your mind, just say" stop" to yourself. Do this regularly, you will get the desired result. 2. Wear a rubber band on your wrist like a watch. Pull and leave it as fast as possible so that you feel the pain, whenever you feel you are engaging in a negative thought. 3. We have to rinse the ink bottle with only pure water, pouring repeatedly untill it gets purified. Likewise, we can purify our negative thoughts by replacing them with holy thougts. Write down every negative thought, and write some positive thoughts which counteract each thought. You will see the positive results soon.
