Good Morning ~ It is not unusual in south INDIA for men to get married to their cousins (i.e. Your maternal uncles daughter or your paternal aunts daughter), however a relationship between you and your cousin sister (i.e. Your maternal aunts daughter and your paternal uncles son) are forbidden in south INDIAn HINDU culture. If you believe that you can fit into these cultural traditions I recommend that you consult your elders in the family for the same. I hope you feel better with the solution to your problems. If you continue to have any issues or questions, please let me know.

I am 24 years old and I have a lot of family issue as well as relationship issue. Its like in both case I am avoided. My parents ignore me as well as my partner avoid me. I just feel like dying and I do not eat food for hours and days if something goes wrong and I just take pills to harm myself. Please help me.

You are definitely suffering from the Rejection Issue. What you do is set up the rejection, and then blame yourself and want to hurt yourself. This will go on until you succeed to do something very harmful to yourself. You have a lot of work to do on yourself with a professional, immediately. Otherwise I see that you may loose your family and friend, forever. You are just 24 and life has only begun and you already want to end it! You sound more and more like someone with a serious rejection issue. You try to do the best for other people so that they don’t reject you but yet they do. This means that you need to look at what you are doing to make others reject you. It has become so bad that I feel you are now rejecting yourself in contemplating suicide through these pills! You may be angry about something and because you think that it cannot be expressed, you are turning it inwards. The identity crisis is a typical issue of someone who is dependent on others for acknowledgement and tends to identify with other personalities. You probably suffer from low self-esteem. But far worse than that is my fear that you have this rejection issue, which is compounded with abandonment issues and separation anxiety. The fear of acceptance may then trigger a performance-oriented individual who will depend entirely on other people’s opinion and assessment of herself. This will make you even more vulnerable and susceptible to rejection, and you may hurt very badly and easily at the slightest sign of rejection. There is a way about this, but meet with a counselor first and see what can be worked out to learn to accept yourself first. If you did this you will naturally perform well and will not depend on others, entirely, for their acceptance. If you know of any reason to believe that this rejection is true from your childhood it would help tremendously. Talk to your parents and find out what they remember or you could take them with you to meet with the counselor. If you learn to accept yourself first then the identity may be formed, but the best way to develop an identity is to know your emotions and how to express them. Your feelings are a very good indicator of who you are. A counselor will help you do this well.

Dear Nagarjun. Welcome to lybrate. If your concentration is less towards your studies, you should address your interest level and positive attitude level. Your concentration level will be higher when you are passionate and interested in your studies. Also search Google for "effective learning methods" and use some of those methods. Consult a psychologist online for counselling. Take care.

Different Types of Mental Health Problems

Having a mental problem can be very frightening and distressing. Person suffering from any kind of mental disorder may have a feeling that they are losing their mind, causing fear and sense of isolation. It is important to know that having a mental issue doesn't mean that you are going mad. There are various disorders and problems, which may arise relating to mental health. These problems can change the way you think and behave. Therefore, it is important to know what kind of disorder you are suffering from and what could be the reason behind it. The disorders are of different types and have different effects and symptoms.

Here are the different types of mental health problems:

  1. Anxiety disorders: People suffering from anxiety disorders are fearful while responding to certain objects and scenarios. Physical signs of panic and anxiety are present as well, which may include rapid sweating and rapid heartbeat. Treatment is required when a person cannot control his response and when his response is inappropriate. Anxiety disorder involves a general anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder and phobia.
  2. Mood disorders: These kinds of disorders are also known as affective disorders and the patients feel persistent feelings of depression and several periods of intense joy in a fluctuating manner. Depression, bipolar disorder and cyclothymic disorder are some common types of mood disorders.
  3. Psychotic disorders: In this kind of disorder, a patient experiences distorted awareness and thinking. Hallucinations or perceptions of unreal images or sounds and delusions are common symptoms of psychotic disorders. The most common psychotic disorder is schizophrenia.
  4. Eating disorders: Eating disorder incorporates extreme emotions, attitudes and abnormal behavior regarding food and weight. Common eating disorders include bulimia, anorexia nervosa and binge eating.
  5. Impulse control disorders: People with this kind of disorder usually work upon their impulse in an extreme way and cannot resist their impulse to carry out tasks, which may cause harm to them or to others. They include pyromania, kleptomania and compulsive gambling. Such people are likely to get addicted to drugs and alcohol and become deeply engrossed in these practices.
  6. Personality disorders: People affected by personality disorders possess extreme, inflexible traits in their personality, which cause distress to them and may cause problems in work, school and in social relationships. A person's thinking patterns and behavior change significantly from what is accepted by the society. Examples of personality disorders are antisocial personality disorder, paranoia and obsessive compulsive personality disorder.
  7. Obsessive compulsive disorder: People suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD suffer from constant fearful thoughts, which may affect the smooth functioning of everyday life. The patient gets obsessed with thoughts and performs some rituals, which are called compulsions.
  8. Post-traumatic stress disorder: Post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD is a condition, which develops after a person has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event and cannot get over the thoughts of that event. Long lasting fearful thoughts are experienced in the event and the patient may become numb emotionally.

There are many forms of mental health problems and mental illnesses. They all have different effects on the mind and some are quite serious. Effective treatment should be taken in case of mental-health problems.

Massage with your thumbs from the mid points of the shoulder blades on both sides towards the lower back of your head up to lower level of the ears. Use oil or water for massage. Rotate your head clockwise and anticlockwise, forward and down, left and right a few times. Do for 5 to 10 times morning and evening. Give pressure the dipping point on the portion between the thumb and the index finger on the back of the palm. Press and release for 15 times where the pain is more. This will solve the problem. Hello, There are many aspects of depression, the more of them you have the more likely you are to have a clinical depression. Some patients feel severely depressed and suicidal. If you have these feelings you should go to the emergency department immediately. Other things that people with depression can feel are sadness, low energy, lack of motivation, poor sleep, irritability, weight gain or loss, poor self image and sometimes even a lack of touch with reality. The more of these symptoms you have the more likely it is that you have serious depression. Treatments for depression include medications, counseling and exercise. Again the more of these you do the better your chance for a successful treatment. Good luck to you,

Is Anxiety And stress some how increases blood sugar level even if a person is not suffering diabetics?
Anxiety and stress can have an impact on your insulin levels, achyut as when you are stressed your body is trying to metabolise the food faster to provide the body with the energy quicker. This can lead to disbetes like symptoms. It is best to address stress-causing factors in your life at the earliest and to readjust your diet and exercise regimen. Also get a full body check up done once every year. If you haven't done on e this year now might be a good time to do it. Good luck.

Dear, Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. Nicotine chewing gums too help as an alternative for cigarettes. But still you will need will power. You may consult a physician or deaddiction therapist or a rehabilitation facility for further advice. You can also opt for online deaddiction therapy. Take care.

Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Chewing tobacco addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan. Take care.

Depression - Know the Tell Tale Signs!

Feeling sad is one thing, but a persistent feeling of sadness can overtake your life, and is anything but healthy. Depression is not something to be ashamed of. It is a common condition, that can be treated if identified early.

Treatment of depression usually involves a combination of medication and psychotherapy. The effects of depression vary from person to person, but some symptoms are commonly experienced in all cases. These symptoms can be categorised as physical changes, behavioural changes, cognitive changes and emotional changes

  1. Physical symptoms of depression: Feeling tired all the time is one of the most common symptoms of depression. The person may also have persistent headaches and sporadic muscle pains. Insomnia or sleep troubles are often associated with depression. This can further lead to significant fatigue, and a vicious cycle ensues. Sleep troubles can also lead to the formation of dark circles under the eyes, and make the patient’s skin look dull. Patients suffering from depression often find themselves losing weight due to a significant loss of appetite, or find themselves snacking excessively, and hence, putting on weight.
  2. Behavioural symptoms of depression: Depression can make a person withdraw from his or her friends and family and become a recluse. A loss of interest in activities that would usually excite the person is another characteristic symptom of depression. This condition can make a person unable to concentrate or focus on work and other activities, and hence, may affect productivity in school or the workplace. Depression can also make a person rely heavily on alcohol, sedatives etc.
  3. Cognitive symptoms of depression: Depression can make a person feel worthless, and leave them with a bleak outlook on life. A depressed person will often find himself or herself criticising themselves harshly for things that may or may not be their fault. This can make them increasingly more agitated or irritable. Depressed people may also turn to violence and trigger reckless behaviour such as gambling, substance abuse, reckless driving or taking up a rash sport.
  4. Emotional symptoms of depression: Feeling sad for no reason characterises depression. This sadness can overwhelm a person and make them feel guilty about indulging in anything that could make them happier. It can also make the person lose confidence in himself/herself, thus making him/her indecisive about simple decisions. Other emotions that are commonly experienced by depressed people include irritability, frustration, guilt, and disappointment.

A frequent but ignored symptom is thoughts of self-harm or suicide, leading to deliberate self-harm/suicide attempts. If you or someone you know suffers from any of the above symptoms, you may need help! Visit your Psychiatrist at the earliest to have yourself evaluated, and started on an appropriate course of management.

I am in love with someone. He dont love me. Once we used to be best friend. Now we r not even in contact. I dnt feel good at all. I tried many ways to forget him but did not success. Every where and there I miss him like anything. I do not feel like to talk to any one or do anything. I continuously think of him only in every situation. What should I do now?

Dear lybrate-user. Be in the middle. I mean neither love nor hate/forget. Subdue your ego and take initiatives to contact him whenever you feel you are deprived of him. Continue your friendship but not in depth. Focus on other areas of your life. You will find yourself Ok in course of time.
