Hi doctors. How many grams of sugar and carbohydrate can a pridibatic person can eat in a day. Is honey good and safe...
Mr. lybrate-user, It is difficult to answer about how many grams of sugar and carbs to be eaten. Basically if one is in a pre-diabetes state, then over all caloric intake has to be restricted to meet the exact requirement based on - Ideal body weight X 25 calories per kg / day. In your case IBW should be around 60 kgs. So 60 X 25 cal /Kg = 1500 calories, that means your total dietary intake should be 1500 cals per day. It best to avoid sugar or jaggery or sweets in total. Honey is also similar to sugar, there is hardly any difference. It is supposed to give some additional anti-oxidents. But only a small quantity should be used. Complex carbs like whole grain products are best. Do not use maida, pasta, bakery items, junk foods, sugary aerated drinks, pastries etc. Avoid deep fried foods and fructose corn syrup containing products and highly processed packaged products. Consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads and fruits. Daily exercise of at least 1 hour is necessary. Thanks.

Hi, I am a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and a doctor (general physician) who will help you in your diabetes problem. Do let me know your hba1c value? also you need to provide me your daily food intake details. There are many lifestyle and dietary guidelines that can be followed: take high fiber prescribed diet which includes soluble fibre like apple, isabgol etc. Get more physical activity by prescription from a registered dietitian maintain a healthy body weight eat a balanced diet which includes whole grains and excludes all refined products like maida as prescribed by a registered dietitian, if you're overweight, diabetes prevention may hinge on weight loss. Every pound you lose can improve your health, and you may be surprised by how much. Participants in one large study who lost a modest amount of weight around 7 percent of initial body weight and exercised regularly reduced the risk of developing diabetes by almost 60 percent. I being a registered dietitian and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their diabetes problem. I will also prescribe medicines that will speed up the time to achieve your weight management goals. Do reply back for private consultation.

Frequent food, less spicy and less oily foods are good for you. Prefer soft normal home food instead of ready to eat fast foods. Avoid fasting or skipping meals.

You firstly stop causative factors from your life style. Like drinking too much cold water, eat too much sweets, day sleep, water after meal, lack of exercise, curd, menda etc. I will need your detail history. Till you can follow this * start drinking hot water * stop day sleep * start any exercise in morning, like suryanamaskar, walking, joging, sports * drink juice of turmeric n ginger with honey * take jau barley, instead of ghenhu wheat. * use cow ghee n milk only * boild rise in open pot, don't use cocker. Withdraw water if rice.

Hello, the blood glucose levels mentioned are too high. When diabetes is in control fbs should be closer to 100 mg, pp should be 150 to 160 mg/100 ml & hba1c% <6.8. It is clear that her current treatment is totally inadequate. It needs immediate upgradation. Otherwise there is a possibility of developing any othe long term complications of diabetes. If you want specific advise regarding treatment please come in a private conversation with all details like fbs< pp & hba1c% and diet pattern as well as extent of daily exercise, then I will be able to guide. Thanks.

what are Reasons of diabetes?

what are Reasons of diabetes?
Here are some key points about diabetes. Reason of diabetes in simple layman terms describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. Diabetes is a long-term condition that causes high blood sugar levels. In 2013 it was estimated that over 382 million people throughout the world had diabetes (williams textbook of endocrinology). Type 1 diabetes - the body does not produce insulin. Approximately 10% of all diabetes cases are type 1. Type 2 diabetes - the body does not produce enough insulin for proper function. Approximately 90% of all cases of diabetes worldwide are of this type. Gestational diabetes - this type affects females during pregnancy. The most common diabetes symptoms include frequent urination, intense thirst and hunger, weight gain, unusual weight loss, fatigue, cuts and bruises that do not heal, male sexual dysfunction, numbness and tingling in hands and feet. If you have type 1 and follow a healthy eating plan, do adequate exercise, and take insulin, you can lead a normal life. Type 2 patients need to eat healthily, be physically active, and test their blood glucose. They may also need to take oral medication, and/or insulin to control blood glucose levels. As the risk of cardiovascular disease is much higher for a diabetic, it is crucial that blood pressure and cholesterol levels are monitored regularly. As smoking might have a serious effect on cardiovascular health, diabetics should stop smoking. Hypoglycemia - low blood glucose - can have a bad effect on the patient. Hyperglycemia - when blood glucose is too high - can also have a bad effect on the patient.

Hi as long as sugar levels are within limits then its ok, how ever your father's post food sugar levels are very high. He has to have strict control on diet and do meticulous walking/exercise to keep the sugar levels in control. He can try this for 2 months and recheck the sugar levels and hba1c values. If they are normal continue the above advice, if not consult the doctor who can treat diabetes. Wish your father good health
