Diabetes - How It Affects a Woman's Health?

Diabetes - How It Affects a Woman's Health?

Are you a woman suffering from diabetes? Diabetes is a group of metabolic diseases in which your blood sugar levels shoot up because of problems in the processing and production of insulin. Diabetes occurs in both men and women. However, there are some primary differences and contrasts between diabetes in men and in women.

Symptoms
The symptoms of diabetes in women are almost the same as those in men, except for some unique symptoms pertaining only to women, which include the following:

  1. Development of oral and vaginal yeast infections, along with vaginal thrush
  2. Urinary infections
  3. Sexual dysfunction
  4. Development of polycystic ovary syndrome

The common, general symptoms found in both men and women include a frequent urge for urination, enhanced hunger and thirst, fatigue, blurry vision, and sudden gain or loss of weight without obvious causes. Skin infections, irritability, nausea, darkening of skin in patches, a reduced feeling in the hands and feet are other general symptoms.

Diabetes and pregnancy
Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

If you are pregnant and have diabetes, you should consult your doctor to know about the best ways of managing your health, and the health of your baby. It is important to track down your blood glucose levels before and during your pregnancy. While you are pregnant, glucose and ketones reach your baby via the placenta, and the baby utilizes this as energy. As such, too high glucose levels may leave your baby at risk.

Gestational diabetes
This form of diabetes occurs in 9% of pregnancies in which the pregnancy hormones interfere with how insulin works. This results in the body making more insulin. In some women, the insulin produced is not enough and therefore, gestational diabetes develops.
Risk factors

Women are more prone to diabetes when the following factors are present:

  1. If you are above the age of 45
  2. If you are obese and have a family history of diabetes
  3. If you gave birth to a baby who weighed more than nine pounds
  4. If you have hypertension or high blood pressure, and high cholesterol
  5. If you are not into any form of exercise
  6. If you suffer from other health conditions, which are linked with insulin problems like PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome, or are having a history of stroke and heart diseases

There are certain prominent differences between diabetes occurring in men and women. Women receive less aggressive treatment for other conditions associated with diabetes. The complications caused in women because of diabetes are more challenging to diagnose properly. Moreover, the hormones and inflammation also work differently in the case of women. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

You need to get yourself checked what you are having is called is intermittent arrhythmia which means that intermittently your heart rate increases or the heart Rhythm changes which can be dangerous if it does not get corrected on its own. But to diagnose it you need to get an ECG done while you are having the rhythm problem or you can get holter monitoring for 24 hours during which if you have this episode it will get registered and documented. Also you need to get a complete lipid profile done to check if you need any medication for Cholesterol also.

Thyroid - Ayurvedic Herbs For It!

Thyroid - Ayurvedic Herbs For It!

Situated in the neck, the thyroid gland plays an important role in the body– it produces hormones required for regulating growth. Through its role, the thyroid gland influences most metabolic processes in the body. Problems of the thyroid gland can range from simple conditions such as goiter (enlargement of the thyroid glands) to something as fatal as cancer. The most common thyroid problem is the abnormal production of hormones.

Overproduction of hormones by the thyroid gland results in ‘hyperthyroidism’ whereas underproduction of hormones causes ‘hypothyroidism’. It is necessary to take steps to deal with thyroid problems as their complications can be severe at times.

Ayurveda is a time honoured system of medicine, the treatments of which have holistic healing properties. Ayurvedic treatments are free from side effects as they do not contain synthetic ingredients. In case of thyroid problems, Ayurvedic remedies focus on balancing the production of hormones. The various doshas in the body – kapha, vata and pitta are balanced, so as to promote overall wellbeing.

The various Ayurvedic herbs that help with addressing thyroid problems are –

  1. Ashwagandha: Ashwagandha is a very widely used herb in Ayurvedic medicine due to its numerous benefits. It has anti-oxidizing properties which calm the brain and strengthen the immune system. It helps relieve symptoms of fatigue and inability to focus, both being indicators of thyroid problems.

  2. Bacopa: Bacopa is a herb that is extremely beneficial for the overall health of the nervous system. It helps you focus better while boosting memory capacity. It also helps in controlling and reducing inflammation.

  3. Black Walnut: Black walnut is rich in magnesium that helps in proper functioning of the thyroid gland, a deficiency of which causes thyroid problems.

  4. Bugleweed: A herb that is effective in treating cold and cough, bugleweed also has beneficial effects on the thyroid gland. It is often used as a sedative or an astringent.

  5. Coleus: Coleus is a herb that is rich in anti-oxidants, which help in minimizing free radical damage in the body. It helps in improving the functioning of the thyroid gland and also helps in the treatment of certain cardiovascular disorders.

  6. Echinacea: A herb that strengthens the immune system of the body, Echinacea plays a vital role in preventing thyroid problems. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda and ask a free question

Dear sir, I am suffering from portal cavernosa, gall bladder stones, two veins from liver to spleen has been blocked, constipation some time lose motion, and stomach bloats. Digestion problem but having good appetite.

Dear sir,
I am suffering from portal cavernosa, gall bladder stones, two veins from liver to spleen has been blocked...
Take the positive aspect you have first. You do have a good appetite. Constipation and loose motions can be overcome when you have the right type of food. High fiber diet, fruits, vegetables, drink about 2 liters of water a day at least. This diet would even reduce the bloating feeling of the abdomen. In your case, taking smaller amount of food may be five times a day is better than consuming larger amount of food three times a day. Regarding gall stones and blocked hepato-splenic veins, please do consult a gastroenterologist regarding management.
