I have leg pain this pain from past 4-5 days and feeling cold also. So can you suggest something for this ?
: keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Now, tighten the muscle on the front of the thigh by pushing your knee down. You should feel your thigh muscles clench, hold for 3 secs. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and clench you thigh muscles. Slowly lift your foot up off the bed until your knee is straight (keep your knee resting on the towel). Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower them on the chair. Repeat 10 times twice a day. Straight leg raise: lie flat on your back. One leg and knee will be straight and other leg should be bent. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hold for 3 secs and slowly lower the leg. The knee must remain straight the whole time you are doing this exercise.

Dislocated Kneecap - Symptoms and Treatment

Dislocated Kneecap - Symptoms and Treatment

Have you suffered from a dislocated kneecap and are looking for effective treatment options? A dislocated kneecap is a very common form of injury that takes around six weeks time to heal. It is generally caused by a blow or a change in direction when your leg is planted on the ground. Such injuries are common during sports and dancing. The patella or knee cap, which sits at the front of the knee, glides over a groove in your joint, on straightening or bending your leg. Dislocations make it come out of the groove, leading to the tearing of the supporting tissues.

Symptoms

  • When your kneecap gets dislocated, it is likely to look out of place, or the angle will seem odd.
  • Other symptoms include severe knee pain, inability to walk, swelling of the knee, inability to straighten the knee, and a popping sensation in the knee.

Treatment

  • A dislocated knee cap is not something very serious and it pops back in place on its own in many cases. However, it is recommended for you to get it diagnosed and treated by a health professional.
  • In case your knee cap goes back into place on its own, you should visit a minor injuries unit or MIU, or an accident and emergency department.
  • If your kneecap does not go back into place by itself, you need to call an ambulance and avoid trying to put it back in place by yourself.
  • On the way to the hospital, or while you wait for the ambulance to arrive, you should sit, keeping your leg in a position that is most comfortable for you.
  • If your kneecap does not correct itself by the time you reach a hospital, it has to be manipulated back in place by a doctor. This process is called reduction.
  • You will be given medication to ensure that you keep relaxed and free from pain during the procedure.
  • After the knee cap is put back in place, an X-ray has to be undertaken to check out if your bones are in the right position. Signs of other damages are also analysed.
  • After the procedure, you will be prescribed painkillers. Your leg will be immobile and put in a removable splint for some time.
  • For effective recovery, you should undergo physiotherapy for several weeks.

A surgery for a dislocated kneecap may only be required to be undertaken in case of a fracture or associated injuries like a ligament tear. A surgery may also be required in case you had experienced a knee cap dislocation in the past. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an orthopedist.

Hi lybrate-user, since there is no fracture no need to worry, you must have kept your arm in rest because of the impact, you have to do exercises to breakdown the tightness (adhesion). If you do proper exercises and stretching your arm will be active.

If the fracture fragment is displaced surgery is better option for early recovery and prevent the complication. Or if fracture is minor or hair line crack pop is better.

Mostly pain in elbow is due to strained or inflamed soft tissues like tendon. As per the symptoms (pain while making fist) seems you are suffering from tennis elbow. After looking to your pain I would recommed you for some care that you can take at home. If possible visit some physio who can give you several mdalities like us, ift etc to cure the pain. Along with it we have a special program designed in case tennis elbow) like hold relax, mulligans etc just to get relief from pain. Precautions: 1. Avoid weight lifting. 2. Avoid doing twisting moments like supination-pronation which usally is done while playing badmitton or while washing clothes. 3. Give rest to your work for some days. 4. Wear forearm band to rest your muscles. 5. Avoid bending your elbow into positions that cause the symptoms. Treatment: 1. Give rest to your elbow. If severe pain you can use sling to avoid gravity pressure. 2. Ice and hot pack combo. Apply ice for 3 min and then hot for 2 min. There is very good result of both applications together. After 3 days of taking contrast therapy you can make the ice and hot ratio as 1: 1 mean one min cold and then one min hot. Start with hot pack and ends with cold. Take it for 15-18 min thrice a day for early recovery. Please make sure it should not be too hot or too cold. 3. Massage using your 2 fingers over the painful area. 4. Exercises: start the exercise once your pain is decreased atleast 50-60% a) palm lifting b) elbow up and down in gravity eliminated position c) strengthening of elbow muscles. For any query please contact me right away. Good luck and get well soon.

For first 48 hours of injury do ice massage, for minimum movement of foot you can use crape bandage & tie it firmly, do not put pressure or body weight on your injured foot. After 48 hours do hot fomentation & isotonic exercises gradually move towards the isometric, partial weight and then to full weight bearing position. Don't do exercises if your foot have pain, swelling or discoloration of your foot. In that case consult orthopedic.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually there are many causes for swelling in limbs like cardiac causes, deranged lft, kft, thyroid profile etc. Since she has also been complaining of chest pain etc, my advise is to meet up with a cardiologist and rule out a cardiac cause for it first, then you can consult a general physician to rule out other causes for these symptoms. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Hello, please send me your all investigation report to rule out whether it is ldp/ loss or increase of lumbar lordosis or anything else. This may be due to overweight or deficiency of vitamin d3 and calcium or due to poor posture. Till then follow these advises:- 1. Take calcium supplements and sun bath daily to prevent further damage to your joints. 2. Avoid heavy lifting. 3. Avoid squatting and weight bearing activities. 4. Use western toilet. 5. Wear shock absorbing, good quality of shoes while walking. 6. Keep roll of a towel under your knees while sleeping. 7. Perform some gentle exercises and stretching of your all joints before getting out of your bed. 8. Walk straight with shoulder protracted. 9. Perform deep breathing exercises or yoga for proper functioning of lungs. I can explain you stiffness and pain reducing techniques, if interested. Wish you a happy and pain free life thanks.
